The AutoRacing1.com Report Card grading system is based on a number of factors. In addition to the general guidelines below, there are other factors that can influence the grade such as injuries, personnel changes, sponsorship difficulties, rookie status, DNQ's, DNF's and other intangibles. Drivers who competed in a minimum of 28 races have been assigned a report card for 2000. A: 1st-10th place finish in points; or an improvement of 15 places or more from the previous year. B: 11th-20th place finish in points; or an improvement of 10 places or more from the previous year; or 1st-10th place finish in points with a decline of 5 or more places from the previous year. C: 21st-30th place finish in points, while remaining within 5 places from the previous year; or a finish below 30th place in points with an improvement of at least 5 places from the previous year. D: A finish below 30th place in points for a non-rookie with no improvement from the previous year; or anyone with a decline of 15 or more places from the previous year. F: No one who straps themselves into an 800 HP car and races inches from the next guy at 180 mph deserves a failing grade. Any rookie who has made at least 28 starts receives a grade of C or better. Please remember that this rating system is relative, subjective and not scientific. With 13 divisions of NASCAR racing, even a Winston Cup driver with a subpar Auto Racing1.com report card grade is still one of the best stock car drivers in the world.
