Pruett, Rojas Earn Grand-Am title with another win

Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas only needed to drive 30 minutes in Saturday's Utah 250 at Miller Motorsports Park to share the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Daytona Prototype championship. They did more than just that.

Pruett, Rojas Win Montreal For Record Eighth Victory
  Pair Claim DP Title For Ganassi
The Montreal 200 on Saturday marked another milestone in what has been a dream season for Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.  Pruett more than half of the two-hour, 62-lap race, while holding off Alex Gurney to give the team its first victory at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, its record-setting eighth triumph of the season, and in the process, clinching the team Daytona Prototype championship.
Fogarty, Said Break Montreal Grand-Am Records

Jon Fogarty and Boris Said used Chevrolet power to lead a record-breaking pair of qualifying sessions Friday at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and capture  respective poles for Saturday's Montreal 200, in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.  Fogarty ran a lap of 1:31.524 (106.556 mph) to capture his second Daytona Prototype pole of the season in the No. 99 GAINSCO Chevrolet/Riley.

Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas gave team owner Chip Ganassi his first of three wins this past weekend in three major categories by winning the Grand-Am race on Saturday at Watkins Glen.  Our Adriano Manocchia was there to capture all the action in these photos.

  Record-Tying Seventh Victory
Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas scored a dominating victory in Saturday's Crown Royal 200 at Watkins Glen International, tying the single-season GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series victory record with their seventh triumph of 2010.  Pruett beat Max Angelelli to the checkered flag by 2.722 seconds.

Ganassi team wins Grand-Am pole at The Glen
  For Crown Royal 200 in Abbreviated Qualifying Session
Series championship standings co-leader Memo Rojas ran a lap of 1:05.470 (134.718 mph) Friday on the 2.45-mile Watkins Glen International short circuit to capture the pole for Saturday's Crown Royal 200.  Rojas will join Scott Pruett in the No. 01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW/Riley at the front of the grid for Round 10 of the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series.

Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty returned to GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototype championship-winning form in the recent Rolex Series race at New Jersey Motorsports Park, when Gurney passed Scott Pruett for the lead with less than two laps remaining.  They hope to continue that momentum on Saturday at Watkins Glen International.

With three minutes remaining Sunday at New Jersey Motorsports Park, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas were looking to make GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 history. Then, Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty made some history of their own.  One day after Fogarty gave the team its first pole position of the season, Gurney caught and passed Pruett with less than two laps remaining and went on to win by 3.674 seconds, giving the defending Daytona Prototype champions their first GRAND-AM Rolex Series victory of the season in the NJMP 250. They drove the No. 99 GAINSCO Auto Insurance Chevrolet/Riley.

GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing won its first pole position of the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season Saturday in qualifying for tomorrow’s New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) 250 presented by Crown Royal on NJMP’s Thunderbolt Raceway where team driver Jon Fogarty’s 15th career top qualifying effort extended his record as the all-time Daytona Prototype pole winner.

Pruett and Rojas Capture 100th Daytona Prototype Race

Drivers Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas of the TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates team celebrated the 100th race for the Daytona Prototype class by scoring an impressive victory in Saturday's Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway, adding to their record win totals in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series' leading division.

Told he needed to run "one more perfect lap," Ricky Taylor responded with a lap of 1:42.341 (125.228 mph) to capture the pole position for Saturday's Brumos Porsche 250 at Daytona International Speedway, the eighth round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16. The race takes the green flag at 11 a.m. Flag-to-flag SPEED coverage begins at 1 p.m. ET.

Racing in sizzling heat before a record GRAND-AM crowd at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, it was fitting the hottest team in the Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 came home the winners. Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas combined to win Saturday's EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank, giving them five victories in seven races to extend their Daytona Prototype point lead.

Already running at the limit, Memo Rojas was told he needed to go a little faster in Friday's qualifying for the EMCO Gears Classic presented by KeyBank at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. He responded with a track record lap in the final minute of the 15-minute session to take the pole from Ricky Taylor.  Rojas toured the 2.258-mile, 13-turn circuit in 1:17.523 (104.856 mph).
Ganassi Dominates First Half Of Grand-Am Season

Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas are taking a cautious approach to the second half of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 season despite dominating the opening half of the campaign. "As soon as you start thinking about a championship that is the time you lose it," said Pruett, who joined Memo Rojas in winning four of the opening six races in the No. 01 TELMEX BMW/Riley. "We need to stay focused at every race."

Five days after a three-race GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series winning streak ended in a first-lap crash, Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas turned in a solid performance and started a new streak Saturday in the No. 01 TELMEX BMW Riley by scoring their third consecutive victory in the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen.  Pruett led the final 30 of 191 laps on the 3.4-mile Watkins Glen International long circuit, beating Max Angelelli to the checkered flag by 1.623 seconds.

Bouncing back from his team's worst showing of the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season, Scott Pruett shattered the Watkins Glen International track record Friday to capture the pole position for Saturday's Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen.  Pruett ran a lap of 1:40.562 (121.716 mph) in the No. 01 TELMEX BMW/Riley, and will join Jon Fogarty on the front row.
SunTrust Racing Wins Memorial Classic
  Max and Ricky take a big win
Veteran Max Angelelli helped Ricky Taylor score his first GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series victory in Monday's Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park. The event also saw Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas have their hopes of winning a record fourth consecutive race dashed in the first turn of the first lap.

Second-place finisher Ryan Dalziel to close to within seven points (155-148), after Dalziel entered the event 21 points behind.

Scott Pruett survived a pair of late-race restarts and a strong challenge by Burt Frisselle to win Saturday's Bosch Engineering 250 before a record crowd at Virginia International Raceway.  The victory gave the No. 01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley started by Memo Rojas its third consecutive GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented  by Crown Royal  Cask No. 16.
Rojas Captures Third Straight Pole At VIR

Memo Rojas drove the No. 01 TELMEX BMW Riley to his second consecutive pole position at Virginia International Raceway in Friday's qualifying with a lap of 1:41.796 (115.643 mph), and will lead the field to the green flag in Saturday's Bosch Engineering 250. Rojas and Pruett will be seeking their third consecutive victory of the season in Saturday's fourth round of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16.

Memo Rojas and Scott Pruett rolled to a dominating victory in Saturday's Porsche 250 before an estimated crowd of 25,000 at Barber Motorsports Park, while problems hit two of their traditional rivals in the battle for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 Daytona Prototype championship.
Taylor and Bomarito win their first Grand-Am pole

Ricky Taylor and Jonathan Bomarito became first-time pole winners in GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 in Friday's qualifying for the Porsche 250, breaking the Barber Motorsports Park track records in the process. Taylor ran a record lap of 1:19.624 (103.989 mph) in the No. 10 SunTrust Racing Ford Dallara co-driven by Max Angelelli to lead the Daytona Prototype session.

Scott Pruett held off a late charge by David Donohue to win Saturday's Grand Prix of Miami, Round 2 of the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16.  Pruett and Memo Rojas scored their second victory in three years at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the No. 01 TELMEX Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates BMW Riley, holding off the No. 59 Brumos Porsche Riley of Donohue and pole winner Darren Law by 0.255 seconds.

Darren Law, in the No. 59 Brumos Porsche Riley, blazed to a fast lap of 1:11.806 (115.311 mph) to earn the pole position for Saturday’s Grand-Am Rolex Series Grand Prix of Miami. Law's pole ended a personal five-race pole qualifying streak by Jon Fogarty in the No. 99 Gainsco/Bob Stallings Racing Chevrolet Riley. Fogarty, who qualified second today, put the No. 99 car on the pole at the final five events last season.

Among the many actors who have gained fame on the large and small screens, there are three notable personalities whose talent, sex appeal and blue eyes have made them icons, especially when their rugged personas were embellished by their performance in motorsports: James Dean, Steve McQueen and Paul Newman.  Now another American actor, Patrick Dempsey, the Dr. McDreamy of television's Grey's Anatomy, is set to join that elite club.

Joao Barbosa took the checkered flag in the 48th Rolex 24 At Daytona to give the No. 9 Action Express Racing the victory along with teammates Mike Rockenfeller, Ryan Dalziel and Terry Borcheller over the No. 01 Ganassi Riley BMW of Scott Pruett.  The SpeedSource Mazda of Jonathan Bomarito won the GT class by 4 laps over the TRG Flying Lizard Porsche.

In motorsports the term legend is often used to describe race car drivers who have achieved greatness in their careers. However, a true legend also exhibits grace and class, and Hurley Haywood, described as a one-of-a-kind driver and gentleman, is just such a legend having won the admiration not only of race fans but also fellow competitors.  After four decades, Haywood remains active as a professional race driver despite stepping down from a full-time driving role in 2008.

Max Angelelli prevailed in a back-and-forth battle to capture the pole Thursday for the 48th Rolex 24 At Daytona, to be held Saturday at the "World Center of Racing."  Angelelli secured the top position for the opening round of the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 with a lap of 1:40.827 (127.108 mph) in the No. 10 SunTrust Ford Dallara.

Crown Royal and Drunk Driving: Interesting teammates

Crown Royal recently announced their sponsorship of the Michael Shank Racing car number 60 Ford-Riley to be driven by John Pew and Ozz Negri for the GrandAm Road Racing Championship.  Of course, that doesn’t sound like shocking news…until you realize that a convicted drunk driver is also a Michael Shank team driver.

Angelelli, Ragginger Top Final Day Of Rolex 24

Max Angelelli and Martin Ragginger led their respective classes Sunday at Daytona International Speedway in the final day of the Roar Before The Rolex 24, a three-day GRAND-AM sanctioned practice session leading up to the Jan. 30-31 running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona. Angelelli ran a lap of 1:40.888 (127.032 mph) in the No. 10 SunTrust Ford Dallara. Ragginger was fastest in GT with a lap of 1:49.627 (116.906 mph) in the No. 23 Alex Job Racing Porsche GT3.
Valiante tops frigid Rolex 24 test Saturday

Cold temperatures and precipitation, including light snow, freezing rain, sleet and patches of ice, merely dampened the morning practice sessions for the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series Saturday at Daytona International Speedway. Michael Valiante recorded the fastest lap of the day in the No. 6 Michael Shank Racing Ford Riley, 1:41.237 (126.594 mph), to lead the Daytona Prototypes.
Angelelli, Long Lead First Day Of Practice At Daytona

Max Angelelli and Pat Long led their respective classes Friday in the opening day of the Roar Before The Rolex 24, a three-day test session at Daytona International Speedway to open the 2010 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16 schedule.  Angelelli led the Daytona Prototypes with a lap of 1:40.466 (127.566 mph) late in the morning session in the No. 10 SunTrust Ford Dallara.
