NOTES AND QUOTES
Coming off his second consecutive top-10 finish, Mark Martin is ready to take on one of his least
favorite tracks on the Winston Cup circuit, Martinsville Speedway. Although Martin has earned two wins
(his most recent in April 2000) and 17 top-10 finishes in 31 starts there, it is still one of his most challenging
tracks. "It's little, narrow and rough," Martin said of the .526-mile oval. "There is no room on the track to
change your line to try to accommodate your car. Your car has to work for you there from the start of the
race. We won there last year, but that was based on pit strategy rather than having the best car out there.
We'll take a win any way we can get it, but it sure would feel good to dominate a race and win it without
much of a challenge."

The team is taking JR-89 to Martinsville this weekend. That car ran both of the Richmond races this year,
as well as New Hampshire in July. It is not the same Viagra ( Taurus the team took to Martinsville in April
where Martin's day ended early after an accident on lap 269.

"The car we took in the spring was pretty much history after that wreck," Martin said. "We decided to bring
a car that has run well for us at other short tracks this season. Our finishes at those tracks don't necessarily
reflect the performance of the car. I feel confident we can continue our string of strong finishes if everything
goes our way on Sunday."

Martin and the team are looking to break into the top 10 in Winston Cup points this weekend. Their sixth and
ninth place finishes at Kansas City and Charlotte put them 56 points behind their Roush teammate Jeff Burton
for 10th place.
