Hot on the heels of 2-race win streak, NASCAR points leader Jeff Gordon won the pole position for Sunday's Subway 500 at Martinsville. It was Gordon's 7th pole of the season, and sixth at Martinsville.
Martin Truex Jr was 2nd followed by Kevin Harvick and Jimmie Johnson to give Chevy the top-4 starting positions and 8 out of the top-10.
Kasey Kahne rounding out the top five. Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., J.J. Yeley, Jamie McMurray and Tony Raines completed the first ten qualifiers.
After a limited practice session because of rain, Gordon was
able to record a fast lap of 94.974 mph around the 0.526-mile Martinsville
Speedway.
Gordon likes Martinsville. In 29 starts at Martinsville, he has
collected seven wins, five poles, 17 top-fives and 23 top-10's. He has been
running at the finish in each of the 29 events with an average finish of
7.3.
