Nissan announces variable compression ratio engine

Nissan VC-T variable compression ratio engine

Nissan announced the world’s first production-ready variable compression ratio gasoline engine that has been designed to match the performance and fuel economy of diesel and hybrid powertrains. The VC-T (Variable Compression-Turbocharged) engine is expected to be launched on an Infiniti model to be unveiled next year. The engine will be officially unveiled by Infiniti at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September. The 2 L, 4-cylinder, turbocharged VC-T engine achieves 27% better fuel economy than the 3.5 L V6 engine it replaces, with comparable power and torque, according to Nissan. The new engine torque is comparable to that of a diesel engine.

The Lexus GX460 is a different breed of SUV. It offers the luxury features that you expect from a Lexus with serious off road capability that you would not expect.  Lexus does not sell that many GX460s but it is a very cool vehicle that offers some terrific features. The GX460 is one of a handful of SUVs that still is built on a body on frame construction.  That robust chassis provides a great base for the serious truck user.

In 1970, everyone took a two week vacation once per year. It was as American as apple pie. Two of the era's great, economical mid-sized cars perfectly suited for such epic road trips were Ford's Torino and the Cutlass from Oldsmobile. Both were available in coupe or sedan configuration, they had comparable small block V8 options and were available in the $2,500-2,800 price range.

The same new four-cylinder flat engines with turbocharging as in the 718 Boxster are being deployed in the 718 Cayman. As a result, coupe and roadster have an identical engine output for the first time. The entry-level version starts with 221 kW (300 hp) from two liters of displacement. The S model delivers 257 kW (350 hp) with a displacement of 2.5 liters. This represents 18 kW (25 hp) more power compared to the predecessor models with an NEDC fuel consumption of 8.1 to 6.9 liters per 100 kilometers.

In the old days Lincolns were presidential cars.  They were cars that we aspired get to when we made it financially and wanted to show that we have arrived.  Today Lincoln seems to have lost its identity and nobody is sure of where they stand.  Lincoln is definitely a luxury brand but at what level is the question.  It is an even more difficult question as many upper level brands such as Mercedes Benz are introducing less expensive cars.  The cheapest Lincoln is actually more expensive than the cheapest Mercedes Benz today.
