Five questions for Alex Zanardi
He inspires many Alex Zanardi is perhaps the most enabled man in the world. The loss of his legs in a 2001 Indy Car accident is the most identifying characteristic in the most recent chapters of his life, but is certainly not the most defining characteristic of the rich and, in many ways, enviable life he has led. A Paralympics multi-time gold medalist and world record setter, the affable Italian has continued to successfully drive racing cars for BMW since 2003. At Daytona we sat down with him for a few questions.
Virtuoso Performance From Alessandro Zanardi The BMW M Motorsport engineers compare him to a drummer, while Alessandro Zanardi (ITA) himself says: “I feel a bit like Jimi Hendrix.” The manner in which the BMW works driver controls the BMW M8 GTE that he will drive during the 24 Hours of Daytona (USA) in January is comparable to a virtuoso performance. Together with BMW M Motorsport, Zanardi has developed a special system that allows him to accelerate with a throttle ring on the steering wheel but also allows him to brake by hand, by using a brake lever.
At Daytona Preparations for Alessandro Zanardi’s (ITA) guest appearance at the 24-hour race at Daytona (USA) have entered the critical phase. On Saturday, the BMW works driver completed the first test with BMW Team RLL at the Daytona International Speedway in the US state of Florida. Zanardi will be competing in the BMW Team RLL #24 BMW M8 GTE at the classic endurance race (26th/27th January 2019).
New McLaren 720S GT3 laps the entire field on race debut The brand new McLaren 720S GT3 came tantalizingly close to a stunning win on its global competitive debut at the Gulf 12 Hours in Abu Dhabi on Saturday December 15. The first GT racer designed and built in-house by McLaren Customer Racing dominated much of the second half of the race at the Yas Marina Circuit before suspension trouble dropped the car to a nevertheless impressive fifth place.
Asia LeMans Series Algarve Pro Racing secured a critical race win in the Asian Le Mans Series 4 Hours of Fuji (7-9 December) to bring itself back into the fight for outright title honors at the midway point of the 2018-19 season. Harrison Newey and Andrea Pizzitola possessed blistering speed, but had to stave off stiff opposition in changeable conditions to take the spoils at Fuji International Speedway.
Asia LeMans Series Race 2016/17 LMP3 Asian Le Mans Series drivers champions Phil Hanson and Nigel Moore have claimed pole positon in their respective classes ahead of the 4 Hours of Fuji. Leading the field away will be first time pole sitter Phil Hanson in the #22 United Autosports Ligier JS P2 Nissan. Alongside him will be the #24 Algarve Pro Racing Ligier JS P2 Judd, with Andrea Pizzitola. Starting in 3rd place will be the #8 Sprit of Race Ligier JS P2. Alexander West will start the race 3rd after Pipo Derani set the third fastest time in qualifying.
Saint Petersburg, Russia meeting Hosted by FIA President Jean Todt and FIA Deputy President for Sport, Graham Stoker, the World Motor Sport Council gathered today in Saint Petersburg during the 2018 FIA Annual General Assembly for its final meeting of the year. All final race schedules were ratified. The following is a summary of the decisions taken during the meeting:
And you can win money too Imagine this: no parking, no trash talking, no speeding ticket, no gun not even a starting line. If you do not know what am talking about, let me introduce you to the world of virtual racing. It is just as exciting as those online betting games you play by taking in bonus codes from bet-nj.com. In fact, in many ways, it is a whole lot more fun since you can play it with your family.

The story of Stefan and Georg Bellof For many years, Stefan Bellof was considered the greatest talent produced by Germany. He made a name for himself in the Porsche 956 – the car that he was also driving in the accident that killed him. The memory of this high-flyer is kept alive by his brother Georg. Unfortunately on September 1, 1985, he died battling against Jacky Ickx in a ferocious duel on the tricky Eau Rouge curve at Spa-Francorchamps. Stefan Bellof, however, will be remembered forever with the 6:11.13 round at the Nurburgring that same year.

The defending race-winning and series-champion No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R will start the 56th Rolex 24 At Daytona Saturday from the pole after IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship qualifying Thursday at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Renger van der Zande, competing in his first race after joining the team as Jordan Taylor’s full-time co-driver for 2018, turned a fast lap of 1 minute, 36.083 seconds at 133.378 mph around the 3.56-mile, 12-turn superspeedway road course.
A lot can happen in 20 years. Just ask anyone on the Corvette Racing program. Sports car racing’s premier GT program readies to complete its second full decade in the 2018 season. It’s unchartered territory in the modern era of North American endurance racing. No other factory program can claim the number of victories and championships during the last 20 years as Corvette Racing – 106 worldwide victories, 12 Manufacturer and Team championships, and 11 Driver titles. All of this by the same program competing with the same manufacturer and same model.
Konica Minolta Cadillac team out to repeat at Rolex 24
Seasons like the one enjoyed in 2017 by the No. 10 Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi-V.R team on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship tour are certainly few and far between, but when Jordan Taylor, Renger van der Zande and Ryan Hunter-Reay take to the wheel of their sleek, black Prototype-class entry for this weekend’s 56th running of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, it’s time to wipe the slate clean and try to do it all over again.

IMSA Season Kicks Off With Successful Weekend At Daytona
While the Roar Before The Rolex 24 At Daytona long has served as the unofficial “kick-off” to the racing season, the 2018 rendition held this past weekend had a different feel than it had in previous years.
The strong pace shown by Cadillac, which led every session throughout the first two days of the Roar Before The Rolex 24 At Daytona test, carried into Sunday’s inaugural Roar qualifying session. The new-for-2018 qualifying sessions establish the garage and pit locations each team will use during the Rolex 24 At Daytona race weekend on Jan. 25-28.
Scott Pruett to call it a career after 2018 Rolex 24
By Holly Cain
Scott Pruett walked into the Daytona International Speedway media center and smiled widely as he looked at the Lexus banner hanging behind the podium displaying three cars he had driven in the Rolex 24 and honoring him for a “storied career in racing” that spanned five decades. Moments later, the 57-year old Pruett smiled again and calmly, thoughtfully, announced his retirement from the sport, revealing he will hang his helmet up after the upcoming Jan. 27-28 Rolex 24 At Daytona – the great sports car endurance race that Pruett has hoisted the overall victory trophy five times in an amazing career that’s spanned five decades.
As the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship swings into action with this weekend’s Roar Before The Rolex 24, a busy offseason for teams and drivers has already begun to move into the rearview mirror. Here’s a quick, team-by-team look at what’s in store for each entry in the Prototype class:
