Corvette Racing at Daytona: Start of a New Era
This Weekend is a dress-rehearsal for season-opening Rolex 24 Corvette Racing returns to the racetrack for another season of IMSA competition, but this time in a very different guise than past years. This weekend’s Roar Before the 24 marks the first public running of the Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, which Corvette Racing will field for this year’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
27th season Thanks to a close fight for the championship title, the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup again offered gripping motor racing in its 27th season. Michael Ammermuller had to wait until the final round of the international one-make cup in Mexico City to clinch his third championship title in a row. The German is just one Supercup title short of matching Patrick Huisman’s tally.

Run 1-2 in WEC race Toyota Gazoo Racing’s Kamui Kobayashi, Mike Conway and Jose Maria Lopez led home a 1-2 victory for the Japanese manufacturer at the conclusion of the Bapco 8 Hours of Bahrain. The No.7 Toyota TS050 HYBRID finished a lap ahead of their teammates, Sebastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Brendon Hartley who were slightly hampered due to contact from another car at the very start of the race.
Toyota third and fourth Rebellion Racing has claimed pole position for the 2019 FIA WEC 8 Hours of Bahrain, its second pole in a row this season after a strong performance from Bruno Senna and Norman Nato. The duo set a 1:42.979 combined time, to go over a tenth clear at the top. In LMP2 it was United Autosports’ day, Phil Hanson and Paul Di Resta taking pole with a 1:45.357 combined time. GTE Pro saw the factory crew finish 1-2 with the #91 Porsche taking pole.

Toyota Gazoo Racing returns to Bahrain to bring the curtain down on a highly-successful year with the fourth round of the 2019-2020 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The team returns for the 8 Hours of Bahrain as World Champions and in pole position to retain both drivers’ and teams’ titles, with two wins to their credit so far and five races remaining. Halfway point to the Rolex 24 We’re just past the halfway point in the offseason which comes on the first weekend of January with the Roar Before the Rolex 24 At Daytona. After WEC neuters the hybrids Rebellion Racing took its second FIA WEC victory today in the 4 Hours of Shanghai, its first of the season, after its #1 R-13 Gibson of Gustavo Menezes, Norman Nato and Bruno Senna fought through the field after a troubled start to the race, dropped the car from first to sixth overall. The Toyotas were pegged back by the 'Success Neutering' system after winning the last two races and could not match the speed of the Rebellion on the straights.

Porsche front both GTE classes Now that the FIA has neutered the hybrid Toyotas a non-hybrid LMP1 car will start a WEC race from pole position in the 4 Hours of Shanghai World Endurance Championship race Sunday. The best time here in China to score pole for the four hours of Shanghai, was set by Bruno Senna and Gustavo Menezes in the #1 Rebellion. The duo set a 1:45.892 average, after two significantly faster lap times than anyone managed during practice. Not only did Toyota miss out on pole, but it missed out on a front row grid spot too.
Ferrari takes GTLM It's better to be lucky than good. A late-race brake issue for the No. 5 Cadillac DPi-V.R Filipe Albuquerque handed victory to Whelen Engineering Racing’s Pipo Derani in Saturday’s record-setting Motul Petit Le Mans. Acura Team Penske and drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Dane Cameron, meanwhile, claimed the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship DPi team and drivers’ titles with a fourth place finish for the No. 6 Acura ARX-05.
Risi Ferrari on GTLM pole The Whelen Cadillac will start the season ending round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Motul Petit Le Mans from pole position for tomorrow's race at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. Felipe Nasr drove the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-V.R to pole position with a time of 1:08.457. The Whelen Cadillac team has been at the top of the time sheet all weekend. The pole is the first for Nasr and the Whelen Cadillac in the DPi era. Risi Competizione's return to the 22nd annual Petit Le Mans was rewarded with the GTLM pole position.
At Petit LeMans Chevrolet begins a new chapter in its storied racing legacy with the introduction of the new mid-engine Corvette race car, known as the C8.R. The C8.R will be Chevrolet’s first mid-engine race car to compete in IMSA’s GTLM class and the first clean sheet race car design since the C5.R debuted in 1999. It will make its racing debut at Rolex 24 at Daytona on Jan. 25, 2020. The C8.R is based on the strong foundation of the 2020 Corvette Stingray.
Petit Le Mans Brings Factory Ford GT Program to End
Ford out after this weekend The story that began with a walk down a bare basement hallway in the Product Design Center at Ford Motor Company will end at this weekend’s Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. The 10-hour IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race brings a close to the factory-backed Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT program. Globally, Ford CGR won 19 races with partners Multimatic and Roush Yates Engines.
Another Toyota 1-2 in WEC Race Toyota secured another one-two finish in the Fuji round of the World Endurance Championship, as Sebastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Kazuki Nakajima claimed the victory with a 33-second win over the sister #7 Toyota. After taking an easy pole position with the help of the new LMP1 handicap system, the crew of the of the #8 Toyota TS050 Hybrid took was untouchable en route to a first victory as a trio - with former Porsche driver Hartley scoring his first WEC win since the 2017 Austin race.
WEC Toyota Gazoo Racing will start its home race from pole position after taking a clean sweep, despite late drama, in qualifying for the 6 Hours of Fuji, the second round of the 2019-2020 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season. Revealed along with Corvette Convertible More than 60 years of racing heritage helped set the stage for the most important debut in Corvette’s racing history last night, as Chevy’s first mid-engine GTLM race car - the Corvette C8.R - made its surprise debut alongside the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray convertible at the Kennedy Space Center. The C8.R and Corvette Stingray represent a true technology transfer, taking lessons from the street straight to the track and vice versa.
Ganassi Ford GT team win GTLM Acura Team Penske swept today’s IMSA Monterey Grand Prix, dominating the two-hour, 40-minute contest at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as Dane Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya scored their third victory of the season and a 1-2 result for Acura. The result unofficially clinches the Manufacturers’ Championship for Acura, while Cameron and Montoya neared the drivers’ title.
IMSA Ricky Taylor is the new IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship track record holder at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. He broke the record – set last year by his brother, Jordan Taylor – on Saturday in qualifying for Sunday’s Monterey SportsCar Championship Powered by McLaren. Tincknell, Bomarito Deliver Third Straight Win for Mazda
IMSA at Road America Mazda Team Joest has claimed its third straight IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship victory in Sunday’s Road Race Showcase at Road America. Corvette on GTLM pole Acura Team Penske swept the front row in qualifying today for Sunday’s Road America Road Race Showcase, with Dane Cameron claiming the pole with a new lap record time of 1:48.715 in his Acura ARX-05 prototype, and teammate Helio Castroneves claiming the outside of the front row with second-fastest qualifying run.

Pfaff Motorsports wins in GTD Teammates Ryan Briscoe, an Australian-born Connecticut resident, and Richard Westbrook of Great Britain, in the No. 67 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT took the win at the IMSA Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park on July 20, 2019. The win by the No. 67 was their first victory of the season and an upset for Porsche’s five-race consecutive win streak in the GTLM class.

After topping both practice sessions on Friday, Colin Braun turned the best lap in Saturday’s 15-minute qualifying session. His time of 1:05.452 was nearly a full second faster than his 2018 pole time and was 0.074-second clear of the second-place qualifier.
IMSA Harry Tincknell delivered the #55 Team Joest Mazda RT24-P its maiden win in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at The Glen. Tincknell won by a narrow 0.353-second over the team’s sister No. 77 entry, following a late-race bodywork issue for Tincknell’s car that slowed the pace and locked in the finishing order by team orders. Nick Tandy and Patrick Pilet took their No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR to a narrow win over the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia in GTLM.
IMSA at Watkins Glen Oliver Jarvis has a knack for wringing every last bit of speed out of the No. 77 Mazda Team Joest RT24-P Daytona Prototype international (DPi) car, especially when there’s a Motul Pole Award on the line. Jarvis broke a 26-year-old track record to take the pole position in qualifying for January’s Rolex 24 At Daytona. In qualifying for last month’s Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio, he broke the previous year’s track record by more than a second.
Alonso's Toyota wins 24 Hours of LeMans after #7 slows
#51 Ferrari wins in GTE-Pro Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. Kazuki Nakajima (teamed with Alonso and Buemi) took the lead of the 2019 Le Mans 24 Hours for the #8 Toyota TS050 HYBRID crew inside the final hour after the leading #7 Toyota slowed with a tire puncture after dominating over 23 of the 24 hours and held them off to win the 24-Hour Classic for the 2nd year running. Ferrari took GTE Pro honors with Alessandro Pier Guidi bringing the #51 AF Corse-run 488 GTE to the flag in first place ahead of Pier Guidi in the #91 Porsche home in 2nd.
Aston Martin takes GTE pole World Champions TOYOTA GAZOO Racing will start the 87th Le Mans 24 Hours from pole position after taking the top two grid spots in a close qualifying at the Circuit de la Sarthe on Thursday evening. Kamui Kobayashi, in the #7 TS050 HYBRID he shares with Mike Conway and Jose María Lopez, earned his second-ever Le Mans pole, and TOYOTA’s fifth in total, thanks to a lap of 3min 15.497secs set in the second qualifying session.

Mike Conway and Kamui Kobayashi drove the No. 7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid to its third pole with a two-driver average time of 1:53.747 on a wet track. Andy Priaulx and Harry Tincknell drove the #67 Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT to GTE pole position.
Porsche beats Chevy in GTLM #5 Cadillac driver Filipe Albuquerque held off two Team Penske Acuras to give Mustang Sampling Racing victory in Saturday’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach. Albuquerque capitalized on last-lap traffic to take a 0.740-second win over the No. 7 Team Penske Acura ARX-05 of Taylor and pole-sitter Helio Castroneves in second. In GTLM Earl Bamber drove his #912 Porsche 911 to victory and ended Corvette's winning streak at Long Beach.
Tandy Porsche wins GTLM pole Helio Castroneves will start Saturday’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix from the pole in his Acura Team Penske on the streets of Long Beach. The Brazilian drove his No. 7 Acura ARX-05 to a quick lap of 1:11.332 to edge out countryman Felipe Nasr in the No. 31 Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R by 0.218 seconds. Nick Tandy drove his #911 Porsche the GT Le Mans class pole for Saturday’s Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix and sweep of the front row for the German manufacturer.

He posted a best time of 1:45.865 driving the No. 6 Acura ARX-05 that he shares with Juan Pablo Montoya and Simon Pagenaud.
