'X1' will not be making IndyCar great again
AR1.com has learned that the possible deal between IndyCar and X1 as outlined in this story we broke months ago is dead. Under CART IndyCar was 'great'. After IndyCar was destroyed by Tony George, the current regime appears clueless as to how to make IndyCar great again. Their focus is the fruit of the Indy 500 while the tree's roots are dying.

Larry Dixon released
Larry Dixon
National Speed Sport News is reporting that Larry Dixon has been released by Bob Vandergriff Racing and is seeking another ride, a team management position, or a media position for the 2016 season.

After the announcement in early December that Leah Pritchett would be joining the team, bringing a sponsor and running the full tour in the seat that Dixon had occupied in 2015 there were questions as to what his role at BVR would be.

With an intact management team, talented crew chiefs, and a running operation many on the outside could not see where he “fit” in that program. Apparently last week he and the team parted ways.

A Tradition Returns: the Return of "44"
There are times in the sport of NASCAR Sprint Cup racing, when looking at things on the surface, they seem simple. An example is a car number. A car number, in its simplest definition, allows race fans to connect a car with a team and a driver. But, as in many cases, when digging under the surface, you can find layers of history. And, for Richard Petty, and the Petty family, these layers of car numbers are built on wins and championships that have transcended through time to build a stock car dynasty across the world.

Dakar Stage 7: Al Attiyah wins, Peterhansel takes the lead again
Nasser Al Attiyah
Nasser Al Attiyah

Nasser Al Attiyah has finally brought an end to the Peugeot domination of this 38th Dakar. At the end of a completely crazy stage, the leading Mini triumphed ahead of the two Peugeots driven by Carlos Sainz, 12 seconds behind, and Stephane Peterhansel, 31 seconds behind. As for Sebastien Loeb, having difficulty in the dunes, he made a wrong move towards the end of the special and drops down the general standings. In the bike race, Toby Price (KTM) enjoyed a twofold triumph, winning the stage and taking command of the general standings.

NEXTEV: "We want to reimagine the automobile

The logos of NEXTEV first appeared in Long Beach, where the winning Team China Racing car was sporting an unfamiliar grey and green livery in place of the usual red and yellow.

Soon after it took over the naming rights, and it was for NEXTEV TCR that Nelson Piquet Jr claimed the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship title.

The company has yet to produce a car, but it has the ambitious target of rivaling Tesla in the near future. To demonstrate the extent of its ambitions, last month it hired Padmasree Warrior as its new CEO in the USA. Through her work at Cisco and Motorola, Warrior has built up a reputation as one of the leading players in California’s world-leading tech industry.

Formula E caught up with her to get her views on electric cars and the role that the series is playing in their development.

McLaren sold more than 1,650 supercars last year
McLaren 540C

The British supercar-maker increased sales of its "bullets" for a fifth straight year and plans to hire more workers to meet the demand.

McLaren Automotive ended 2015 with a total of 1,654 cars delivered, marking another record year, as it has done every year since the company began production in 2010. The high demand for its super-range, especially for the recently-launched Sports Series, has driven the need for a second shift at McLaren’s Woking, England, plant and extra 250 workers are to be hired, most of them in the production department. The second shift is scheduled to start in February 2016 and the new employees will add approximately 40 percent to the existing headcount, helping boosting output from the previous 14 cars per day up to 20 cars per day by mid-2016.

While it is expected that Ecclestone will remain at the helm of Grand Prix racing in the near term, regardless of who eventually buys the sport, the 85-year-old supremo is not immortal and provisions for his successor must be addressed.

Mazdas at Daytona
The two-car Mazda Prototype race team will be powered by the new gasoline-fueled MZ-2.0T engine this season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The engine has been in development for much of the past year and has completed nearly 4,000 test miles prior to this weekend's "ROAR before the 24" test session at the Daytona International Speedway.

The MZ-2.0T earned its name from its configuration: "MZ" refers to Mazda, "2.0" references its two-liter capacity, while "T" is a nod to the turbocharger. The inline, four-cylinder engine is built upon a similar foundation of the MZR-R engine that was developed by Mazda and Advanced Engine Research Ltd. (AER) for sports car racing beginning in 2006. In addition to the new Prototype engine, Mazda works with AER on the current version of the MZR-R engine that powers the entire field in the Indy Lights series, the top rung of the Mazda Road to Indy.

Tooele County moves to preserve 2016 racing season at Miller Motorsports Park
In light of the District Court’s decision on December 17, 2015, Tooele County has decided to restart the process of preparing the property known as Miller Motorsports Park (MMP) for sale. The court was not convinced that the property appraisal was accurate and, therefore, Tooele County believes that it must have a new evaluation of the property conducted prior to sale. This process, as well as other preparations, will take a number of weeks.

The Tooele County Commission has determined that it must immediately hire a company with the necessary professional and technical expertise to manage the racetrack in order to preserve the operation of Miller Motorsports Park, its employees, the 2016 racing season, and the businesses dependent upon it. Tooele County acknowledges that there are other companies that could manage the racetrack if provided sufficient time for preparation. However, based upon the time constraints relating to the motor racing season, Tooele County has determined that only one company is immediately prepared to manage the racetrack.

Formula E reveals power increase plans
More power on the way for Formula E
More power on the way for Formula E
The Formula E cars will have a 25 per cent increase in power over the next three seasons.

While the amount of power available for the drivers for season three will remain at a maximum of 200kW, for season four this will rise to 220kW before being hiked to 250kW in season five.

Although there is scope within the technical regulations for battery power to be raised to 250kW next season, as outlined in the original technical road map, after careful analysis of the performance of the batteries and the cost of developing this technology, the decision was made to phase in the power increase more gradually.

Two changes that are coming online for season three are raising the permitted amount of regeneration to 150kW from its current level of 100kW, and reducing the weight of the car from the current 888kg to 880kg.

Construction of towers to support 'Colossus' screen begins at Bristol
The first phase of constructing the four towers that will support what is touted to be the world's largest center-hung video display started Wednesday at Bristol Motor Speedway. The towers - which range in height from 190 to 220 feet and weigh upwards of 50,000 pounds per 10 foot by 10 foot section - are needed to support the massive screen dubbed "Colossus."

Rentenbach Constructors, of Knoxville, has two cranes from Barnhart Crane & Rigging outside of turn 2 in order to lift each section into place, where a crew of workers bolts the massive pieces into place. The tower piece of the construction is slated to be complete by Jan. 25. Engineers and construction crews are then scheduled to install the cables that will give support to the towers to hold "Colossus" in place.

Grubb talks about leaving Gibbs
Darian Grubb told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Thursday that he was surprised that he wasn't back as #19-Carl Edwards' crew chief at Joe Gibbs Racing.

"I guess fifth in points just wasn't good enough in some people's eyes and five points away from running (for the title at) Homestead," Grubb said on the show "Tradin' Paint." Grubb said he was told during last year's Chase that changes could be coming, nearly mirroring a situation he had in 2011.
