Last year, the MotoGP riders and IndyCar drivers had found a nasty surprise waiting for them when they arrived in Austin last April - a washboard track surface caused by the ground settling in and around the track.

In the past few weeks, work has begun for resurfacing 40% of the asphalt of the track.

The resurfacing includes Turns 1, 2, 9, and from 16 to 19, in addition to the back straight between Turns 11 and 12.

TRENTON, NJ
– Monday, in a 27-12 Senate vote and 65-9 Assembly vote, the New Jersey Legislature passed landmark legislation to electrify the state’s transportation sector and help New Jersey meet its climate goals of moving the state to 100% clean energy by 2050.

The legislation:

  • Calls for the installation of 1,400 additional chargers, 400 of which will be DC fast chargers to complete a statewide fast-charging network.
  • Incentivizes hotels, apartments, condos, and townhouses to add chargers, with a goal of 30% of New Jersey shared living units having access to EV chargers and 50% of hotels.
  • Sets goals for increasing electric vehicle usage across the state, with at least 2 million of all light-duty vehicles (cars, minivans, SUVs, pick-up trucks) on New Jersey roads to be electric by 2035 and 85% of vehicles sold or leased in New Jersey to be electric by 2040.
  • Requires NJ Transit to phase in electric bus purchases and to buy only zero-emission  buses after 2032.

Formula 1’s chief technical officer Pat Symonds believes the 2021 overhaul is vital for making F1 sustainable at a time where car manufacturers are “in trouble”.

Negotiations over the new rules, aimed at making the sports more affordable and competitive, created a divide through the grid with the top teams wanting minimal change, while those further down the order were in favor of the shake-up.

The new regulations were voted through though and a budget cap of $175million per season was put in place, though certain costs like driver salaries and pay for the top executives are not included.

Nico Hulkenberg refuses to race in IndyCar - too unsafe. You figure the IndyCar chassis was designed in 2011 and rolled out in 2012. It's a 9-year old design

(GMM) Nico Hulkenberg is not ruling out a return to Formula 1 in the future.

After his 2010 debut with Williams, the German sat out 2011 as a reserve driver but has since raced for Force India, Sauber and Renault over eight consecutive seasons.

But Renault have replaced him with the Mercedes-backed Esteban Ocon for 2020.

His countryman Sebastian Vettel thinks that is unfair, declaring that "cash rather than class is sometimes the decisive factor".

"It's nice to hear something like that," Hulkenberg told the German news agency DPA.

No change in F1 tires for 2020
(GMM) The racing could be "more predictable" in 2020, because teams voted against using Pirelli's newly designed and tested tires this year.

That is the claim of Pirelli's F1 boss Mario Isola, referring to the rejection of the intended 2020 tire specification following two separate tests.

"The advantage is that the teams are completely familiar with the current tires," he is quoted as saying by De Limburger newspaper.

Andy Green
Andy Green
(GMM) Racing Point technical boss Andy Green admits he is "very nervous" about how the team will handle this year's preparations for the new rules of 2021.

He says that while the big teams can afford to handle the 2020 and 2021 seasons concurrently, smaller outfits will need to spread their resources thinly.

"We have the feeling that both years will suffer," Green told Auto Motor und Sport. "This year we have to think of 2021 as well, but we cannot neglect 2020 either.
