Indianapolis Motor Speedway announced Wednesday that its NASCAR Xfinity Series race scheduled on July 4 will be held on the facility’s road-course layout.
New track owner Roger Penske and IMS president Doug Boles made the announcement during a press conference at the historic track, where NASCAR’s annual doubleheader will occupy a new calendar slot on Independence Day weekend in 2020.

DragonSpeed has announced that Anglo-Irish racer Ryan Cullen and Mexico’s Memo Rojas will join team stalwart Ben Hanley in its driver lineup for the 2020 ACO European Le Mans Series. Both are past winners with the team, Cullen taking LMP2 class honors at last year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona and Rojas having claimed the 2017 ELMS crown.

Baku City Circuit (BCC) today released the results of its second study into the economic impact that hosting the annual F1 race weekend in the Azerbaijani capital has had on the city since 2016, with the total figure for the past 4 years coming in at US$506.3m.
The latest report - which focused on the impact of the 2018 & 2019 race weekends - was prepared once more by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on behalf of BCC and is an update on the previous quantitative evaluation of the economic impact that hosting the 2016 & 2017 Formula 1 Grand Prixs in Baku had on the city. The new results showcase the progress made by the Azerbaijani F1 race since hosting its inaugural F1 race weekend in 2016.
Mercedes team highly motivated for the hottest race of the year
The Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team is heading to the Santiago E-Prix in Chile this weekend for the second race weekend in the team's budding history.
The Chilean capital has been on the race calendar since Season 4 and this year marks the third time that the city has hosted an E-Prix. After debuting in Santiago on a track at Parque Forestal in February 2018, Formula E switched to a circuit in Parque O'Higgins last year.

ROKiT Williams Racing has announced in Tel Aviv today that Israeli born Roy Nissany is to become the team’s Official Test Driver.
Roy will undertake three FP1 sessions, drive one rookie test day, as well as being immersed in the team over three Grand Prix weekends. He will undertake a number of simulator sessions at the factory, and spend time integrating within all departments throughout the year. As part of the agreement, the Israel Start-Up logo will appear on the FW43 for the duration of a Grand Prix weekend when Roy is driving the car.
Speaking about the announcement, Roy Nissany said; “I am thrilled to become Official Test Driver for ROKiT Williams Racing. This is also a landmark for motorsport in Israel. When I tested for the team in Abu Dhabi in December, I instantly felt comfortable in the car and part of the team. The experience that I will gain this year, immersing myself with Williams will prove invaluable and I’m looking forward to getting started, both on and off the track.”
Nissan e.dams is returning to the scene of its first ABB FIA Formula E Championship pole position as the all-electric street racing series heads to Santiago, Chile, for this season’s round three.
Driver Sebastien Buemi scored the team’s first pole position in Chile last year, during Nissan’s debut season in the championship. Buemi and teammate Oliver Rowland went on to rack up a total of six pole positions, a qualifying record for teams in season five.

In the past few weeks, work has begun for resurfacing 40% of the asphalt of the track.
The resurfacing includes Turns 1, 2, 9, and from 16 to 19, in addition to the back straight between Turns 11 and 12.

NASCAR officials announced rules changes Tuesday for the 2020 Cup Series season, introducing a reduced-downforce package designed to enhance competition on road courses and the circuit’s shorter oval tracks.
The changes include significantly smaller spoilers, splitters and other aerodynamic devices in an effort to place a greater emphasis on handling and driver input with less stabilizing downforce on those tracks. The package draws inspiration from similar rules used in the 2017-18 seasons.

Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) announced today that Huski Chocolate will be joining the team as a primary partner on the recently announced No. 8 Honda in the NTT IndyCar Series for 29-year-old Swede Marcus Ericsson beginning in 2020. Huski Chocolate completes the 2020 lineup of primary partners for the team, which also features PNC Bank and NTT DATA on the No. 9 and No. 10 cars driven by five-time NTT IndyCar Series Champion, Indianapolis 500 and 46-time winner Scott Dixon, and 2019 Rookie of the Year Felix Rosenqvist, respectively.

UPDATE Two-time defending Virgin Australia Supercars champion Scott McLaughlin of DJR Team Penske (DJRTP) got the racing opportunity of a lifetime Monday as he tested one of the team's Indy cars.
McLaughlin, who captured his second consecutive Supercars driver's title for DJRTP in 2019, put a Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet though its paces during the IndyCar Series rookie evaluation test at Sebring International Raceway. With the team's three IndyCar Series drivers - Josef Newgarden, Simon Pagenaud and Will Power - on hand for support and direction, McLaughlin had a strong day on track in his first opportunity to drive an Indy car.
The 26-year-old native of Christchurch, New Zealand turned more than 140 laps on the tough Sebring road course as he quickly got up to speed and adapted to the handling of the open-wheel machine.
Formula E already races in Saudi Arabia and the Dakar Rally is running there now

Charles Leclerc believes he and Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel have learnt their lesson and there will be no repeat of the pair’s controversial Brazilian Grand Prix collision.
"We are extremely competitive and sometimes on track we might have some frictions," Leclerc told Autosport. "But in the end we are mature enough to know that what happened on track is on track and off it we are different.
"The most important thing is we work together well off track to develop the car in the best way possible and of course not exceed the limits when we are on track like we have seen in Brazil.
Front Row Motorsports Expands to Truck Series in 2020
Front Row Motorsports (FRM) announced today that the team would expand operations to the NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series in 2020 through an alliance with DGR-Crosley. Nineteen-year-old Todd Gilliland is set to drive the team's No. 38 Ford F-150 in a full-time effort.
Gilliland, a third-generation NASCAR driver, will look to deliver a successful debut season for the team as he takes on his third full-time year in the Truck Series. In 48 combined starts, he has one win, 12 top-five, and 26 top-10 finishes. In his teenage years, Gilliland spent time developing in NASCAR's regional series where he achieved many accomplishments in a short amount of time.

Broderick Bauguess, of Laurinburg, N.C., was named the 49th recipient of the RRDC Mark Donohue Award. This unique award is presented annually by the Road Racing Drivers Club for outstanding performance, competitiveness and sportsmanship during the amateur Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs. It is voted on by RRDC members attending the Runoffs and/or viewing them live on the Internet.
In his first attempt to win the Runoffs, 22-year-old Bauguess qualified second behind defending champion Marshall Mast at the 56th SCCA National Championship Runoffs then drove his No. 133 Morehead Speedworks BMW SpecE46 to the T3 class title on Oct. 12, 2019, at the 3.27-mile Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va. He and Mast exchanged the lead six different times, each vying for fastest lap, with Bauguess ending up the victor, setting a track record of 2:05.354 seconds in the 15-lap, caution-free race and nosing out Mast by 0.396 of a second.

The Academy Awards' nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles, and Ford v Ferrari, as had been expected, was chosen in several categories. The movie is up for Best Picture in a field of nine nominees, among them The Irishman and Once upon a Time in Hollywood. Its three other nominations are for film editing, sound editing, and sound mixing.

Dakar Stage 8 cancelled for Bikes to honor dead rider
After the accident yesterday which claimed the life of motorcycle rider Paulo Goncalves, today’s stage, the eighth of the Dakar Rally 2020, has been cancelled in the motorcycle category out of respect for the mourning of family and friends in the bivouac.
An on-track accident at kilometer 276 in the seventh stage of the Dakar Rally 2020 took the life of Portuguese rider Paulo Goncalves (5/2/1979).
Pat Symonds says F1 not sustainable in current form
Formula 1’s chief technical officer Pat Symonds believes the 2021 overhaul is vital for making F1 sustainable at a time where car manufacturers are “in trouble”.
Negotiations over the new rules, aimed at making the sports more affordable and competitive, created a divide through the grid with the top teams wanting minimal change, while those further down the order were in favor of the shake-up.
The new regulations were voted through though and a budget cap of $175million per season was put in place, though certain costs like driver salaries and pay for the top executives are not included.
