IMSA will utilize a largely unchanged Balance of Performance from the Roar Before the Rolex 24 heading into next weekend’s WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The sanctioning body confirmed the Rolex 24 BoP table to competitors on Wednesday, which sees only minor tweaks to selected cars and no significant performance-related adjustments.

IndyCar fans can "expect to see some notable changes" with NTT on board as the series' new title sponsor, including a "revamped IndyCar mobile app with live data available to all users and, eventually, ways to track favorite drivers in real time as they race," according to Dana Hunsinger Benbow of the INDIANAPOLIS STAR.

IndyCar for years has been "trying to draw in younger fans." IndyCar CEO Mark Miles said that NTT is "key to doing that." Miles: "If there is a part of the demographic in the world today that is digital, data driven, it’s younger fans. As we think about technology innovation that can be developed with NTT, younger fans will be top of mind for us."

On Wednesday night 2018 Indy 500 winner Will Power received his Baby Borg in Detroit along with team owner Roger Penske.

“Everything that goes with winning is a gift that keeps on giving,” he said. “You do all these events, all these things keep reminding you of something you worked hard for.”

“It’s added motivation and give in the belly to keep succeeding,” he said. “At this point in your career you’re focused getting the most out of it because you realize this is not forever. You enjoy the preparation and everything that goes into making this happen. That’s all fun and good stuff and it’s a goal you’re working towards. That’s enjoying it.

Rico Abreu was the class of the field in Wednesday’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Tulsa Qualifying Night at the 33rd annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire; winning for the fourth time since 2015 aboard the Safelite AutoGlass/Keith Kunz Motorsports No. 97. 

Asked if he felt his comfort level at the Chili Bowl was back to where it was a few years ago, Rico replied, “Yeah, I think so. I won those back to back years and I kind of had a slump year and came back to be competitive. Last year I felt I wasn’t as good as the top two but if the roles were reversed, I think if I was in a little better position I think where they could chase me instead of me chasing them. Because those two boys [Bell and Larson], they don’t too many mistakes when they get out front. I think this year was a matter of just minimizing the mistakes”

Ford might not be doomed after all. The American automaker has now finally announced that it is going to launch an all-electric version of its most important vehicle program: the F-Series pickup trucks.

Last year, Ford announced plans to “bring 16 battery-electric vehicles to market by 2022” – starting with an all-electric CUV with 300 miles of range.

But the automaker still remained more focused on hybrids than all-electric vehicles.

Bridgestone Americas, Inc. and County of Monterey announced a two-year agreement for the Firestone brand to be the title sponsor of the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca. The announcement was made in advance of the start of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series season.

Firestone is entering its 20th consecutive year as the sole tire supplier of the NTT IndyCar Series, and now will bookend the INDYCAR calendar with title sponsorship races. The 2019 season will open at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg March 8-10 and crown a champion at the Firestone Grand Prix of Monterey September 20-22. The season-ending race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca brings Indy cars back to the historic track for the first time in 15 years.

The entry list for the 57th annual Rolex 24 at Daytona has been released, ahead of next weekend’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season-opener.

As expected, a total of 47 cars are listed, with minimal changes in drivers since the mandatory Roar Before the Rolex 24 test earlier this month.

For the 2019 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, CORE will shed its traditional orange, gray and white for the red, white and blue worn by the Nissan GTP ZX-Turbo that won the Japanese marque three-straight IMSA Manufacturers’ Championships (1989 – 1991). The livery also bears resemblance to the Nissan R91CP that won the 1992 Rolex 24 at Daytona.

UPDATE (GMM) Fiat Chrysler chairman John Elkann has hit back at rumors that turmoil is still afoot at Ferrari.

Following the death of Sergio Marchionne in 2018, Elkann stepped up to be his replacement and Louis Camilleri installed as the new Ferrari president.

Now, Maurizio Arrivabene has been ousted as Ferrari team boss, replaced by technical director Mattia Binotto. But it is rumored that former Ferrari boss Stefano Domenicali could now be drafted in to replace Camilleri.

Winning in preliminary night competition for the fifth time at the Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire, California’s Kyle Larson grabbed the lead on Lap 6 of Tuesday’s Warren CAT Qualifying Night A-Feature then went unchallenged to punch his ticket into his eighth 55 Lap championship event.

Chasing Zach Daum, the first five laps, Larson tested top and bottom on the Tulsa Expo Raceway before rolling by the Illinois racer on the cushion exiting turn two. Moving top shelf in pursuit of the McDonalds No. 01, Daum as unable to keep pace as Larson reeled in slower traffic.

A YC startup called GBatteries has come out of stealth with a bold claim: they can recharge an electric car as quickly as it takes to fill up a tank of gas.

Created by aerospace engineer Kostya Khomutov, electrical engineers Alex Tkachenko and Nick Sherstyuk, and CCO Tim Sherstyuk, the company is funded by the likes of Airbus Ventures,  Initialized Capital,  Plug and Play and SV Angel.

The system uses AI to optimize the charging systems in electric cars.
