Fourteen cars, each from a different Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series team, began to break in the 2019 rules package during an open test Thursday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Teams were shaking down the full 2019 rules package for the first time at the 1.5-mile track, using aerodynamic ducts and a tapered spacer designed to reduce engine horsepower to a target of 550.

Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow has used the main social media channels to preview the new Formula 1 car, due to be launched on 15 February in Maranello, by releasing a sound clip of the engine.

After running on the test bench, it was fired up for the first time, actually fitted to the car’s chassis. After the launch, the team will head for the Barcelona circuit and the first pre-season test, which runs from 18 to 21 February.

Ferrari profits, sales race ahead in 2018
Luxury sportscar maker Ferrari announced Thursday that it will reveal five new models this year as part as of its new business plan, including a mid-engine hybrid supercar, as it aims to grow full-year revenues by 3 percent.

CEO Louis Camilleri also told analysts that Ferrari would discontinue licensing agreements this year for products that “we do not deem to be in keeping with our brand equity.” (See Full Report)

Royal Dutch Shell is buying the California-headquartered electric vehicle charging and software company Greenlots, the companies said Wednesday.

Why it matters: It's the latest sign of multinational oil-and-gas giants increasingly investing in the EV charging and battery space. 

What they're saying: "Together, the companies will offer best in class software and services that enable large-scale deployment of smart charging infrastructure and integrate efficiently with advanced energy resources like solar, wind and power storage," the companies said in a joint statement.

ESPN acquired Jayski from Adamczyk in 2007. The site originally launched in 1996 and had been updated every day since January 5, 1998.

Dear Joe, Last year the race got a 0.43 on FOX for the start and 0.22 on FS1 for the finish. Unfortunately this year both the start and finish were on NBCSN, the channel almost no one watches, and the ratings were so low they were not published because they were less than an infomercial.

Four NASCAR Cup Series champions with a combined 10 titles highlight a list of 14 drivers tentatively scheduled to participate in a two-day test session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Jan. 31-Feb. 1.

Seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, Las Vegas-born titlists Kurt Busch (2004) and Kyle Busch (2015), as well as 2012 champ Brad Keselowski, will be on-hand for the test, which will be open to the public free of charge. Other NASCAR stars expected to participate in the data-gathering sessions include Ryan Newman, 2018 Daytona 500 champion Austin Dillon, Clint Bowyer, David Ragan and Matt DiBenedetto.

Fernando Alonso is aiming to ‘do something unprecedented in motorsport’ after he was part of the race winning Wayne Taylor Racing team at the 24 Hours of Daytona last weekend.

Alonso retired from Formula 1 at the end of 2018 with two world titles to his name, and has openly stated his desire to win the Indianapolis 500.

Together with the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which the Spaniard won with Toyota last year, and the Monaco Grand Prix, it’s one of the three prestigious events which make up motorsport’s unofficial ‘triple crown’.

Moffitt, who has eight previous ARCA starts over the last two seasons, will compete in the Lucas Oil 200 Driven By General Tire. He’ll pilot the No. 46 Performance Plus Motor Oil Chevrolet in a car prepared by Empire Racing Group (ERG).
