Month of May at IMS To Be Featured in Exciting Super Bowl Regional TV Commercial
Why isn't it a national commercial for the IndyCar Series, including the Indy 500? Because the family only cares about one thing - their Indy 500.
Why isn't it a national commercial for the IndyCar Series, including the Indy 500? God knows the series certainly needs that sort of exposure. Why? Because the family only cares about one thing - their Indy 500. All the money squandered away on silly shock packages would be better spent on national super bowl ads to grow the series.
The pageantry, excitement and tradition of the Month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will be featured in a regional advertisement airing on NBC's telecast of Super Bowl LII on Sunday, Feb. 4.

A 30-second spot will air on selected NBC affiliates in Indiana, including WTHR in Indianapolis, at the end of the first half and leading into the highly anticipated halftime show of the National Football League championship game between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. The Super Bowl annually is the highest-rated television program in America.

This is the third consecutive year the INDYCAR Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil will be featured in a regional TV ad during the Super Bowl telecast.

"All of the action and excitement of May is approaching as quickly as one of the sleek new Indy cars that will be on track during the month at the Racing Capital of the World," IMS President J. Douglas Boles said. "This ad will remind the biggest television audience of the year that there's nothing in sports like the Month of May at IMS, boosting the anticipation for new and existing fans alike as the countdown to the 102nd Indianapolis 500 continues."

Formula 1 Looking Into Whether To Continue Using 'Grid Girls' (2nd Update)
F1 sends the Grid Girls to the unemployment line
There's a lot of things wrong about F1, but the Grid Girls was not one of them. Sponsors used them to advertise, bringing revenue to the race promoter

UPDATE Former Formula 1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone has blasted the sport's decision to drop the use of grid girls in 2018.

“These girls were part of the show. Fans love the glamor," the 87-year-old told The Sun newspaper. "These girls were part of the show, part of the spectacle.

"You should be allowed to have grid girls," he insisted. "The drivers like them, the audience like them and no one cares.

“I can’t see how a good-looking girl standing with a driver and a number in front of a Formula 1 car can be offensive to anybody.

Ecclestone added that it was a case of everyone "getting a bit prudish" at the moment.

The newspaper's front page proclaimed the decision "Formula Dumb". A subheadline added that "Now killjoys ban Grand Prix grid girls."

One part-time grid girl told BBC Radio 5 live that she was "disgusted" by Formula 1's decision.

The new lower downforce IndyCar will expose the wankers (Update)

If Roger Penske was so concerned about showing which drivers are the most talented, then the Penske cars should remove the 'special' shocks their cars have that no one else has. How many races have the Penske shocks won?

Like AR1.com, Roger Penske also believes the changes will highlight IndyCar's best drivers.

"What they've done from a competitive standpoint, and also when you look at it from the driver's standpoint, it puts the driver back in the car," he told Autosport.

"It's a whole different driving technique. It's going to be interesting to see which drivers adapt to it quickly.

"[Before] the downforce made the car easier to drive because the car was so stuck to the ground.

"Now, with the high speed and [less] downforce, getting into the corners the car will be freer and they're going to have to really be on top of it. "It's going to bring the cream to the top, for sure."
