The 2016 racing season will be tough to match the competitive level seen in the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge.
In the always-tough GT division, the top seven drivers in the final point standings were wheeling seven different auto makes and nine of the top 11 in points included different manufacturers. Those nine makes, some of the most prestigious sports cars in the world, included Ferrari, McLaren, Cadillac, Porsche, Nissan, Acura, Audi, Bentley and Mercedes-Benz. And Lamborghini captured a GT race too in 2015.
Phoenix International Raceway Hosts 'Prix View' Inaugural Indycar Testing Session Phoenix International Raceway invites fans and media to the “Prix View” Inaugural Testing Event for the Verizon IndyCar Series on Feb. 27, PIR President Bryan R. Sperber announced today. The event will feature nearly the entire field of drivers and teams as they prepare to race under the lights in the Phoenix Grand Prix on Saturday night, April 2, 2016.
“This is a great opportunity for our fans to have the first chance to see Indy Cars on track at Phoenix International Raceway in 2016,” Sperber said. “The Prix View Inaugural Indy Car testing event will be a way for our race fans to get a taste of the Verizon IndyCar Series and the biggest stars in open-wheel racing prior to the Phoenix Grand Prix in April.”

RPM Racing, a company from Dentsu Aegis Network, will be the promoter of the major car racing competition event in the Circuit of Jerez next 5 and 6 of November, with the Formula V8 3.5 International Series Finale.
The Spanish-based Alesport Group, which owns Formula V8 3.5 promoter RPM, was recently acquired by Dentsu Aegis, a network of nine global brands with headquarters in London.
Alesport was founded by Jaime Alguersuari Sr, father of former Toro Rosso Formula 1 driver Jaime Alguersuari, in 1975.
Alguersuari Sr will remain president of Alesport.

Tony Stewart sustained a burst fracture of the L1 vertebra in his ATV accident this past Saturday. He was transported to a North Carolina hospital Tuesday and underwent surgery Wednesday.
While he is able to move all his extremities and is expected to make a full recovery, he will not race during the beginning part of the 2016 season. No details have been finalized yet on a replacement driver.
Montezemolo: Schumacher 'not good' News on the health of seven-time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher is "not good", his former Ferrari boss Luca di Montezemolo claimed on Thursday, without giving any further details.
Schumacher suffered severe head injuries in a skiing accident at the end of 2013 and, after several months in hospital, returned to his Swiss home in September 2014.

After a highly successful season competing in the Pirelli World Challenge with the McLaren 650S GT3 in 2015, K-PAX Racing is returning to the competition bigger and fully armed to fight for the championship with three McLaren 650S GT3 race cars for 2016.
The three car lineup will consist of McLaren GT Factory Driver Alvaro Parente, McLaren GT Academy Driver Colin Thompson, and young up and comer Austin Cindric.
Lucas Kohl signs with John Cummiskey Racing BROWNSBURG, Ind. John Cummiskey Racing is pleased to announce that Lucas Kohl will drive their number 34 (Bellko trading) car for the 2016 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda.

Will the Electric Car kill NASCAR, NHRA, IndyCar, F1, etc? (Update) UPDATE Bill Nye is getting a lot of press lately by suggesting NASCAR ought to be racing electric cars (below). I was rather disappointed with the reaction from NASCAR fans, as many dismissed the suggestion offhand, or offered ad homonym attacks on Nye. Firing off Twitter insults only reinforces the stereotype of NASCAR fans as ignorant, anti-technology dinosaurs desperate to save a dying sport. I think Nye's suggestion deserves more serious, more respectful consideration
Chip Ganassi Racing Teams to Test at Sonoma Raceway, Feb. 10

The entire Chip Ganassi Racing Teams Verizon IndyCar® Series lineup, including the team’s newest driver, Max Chilton, will visit Sonoma Raceway for a one-day test session on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
All four team drivers, including defending series champion Scott Dixon (No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing), Tony Kanaan (No. 10 NTT DATA Chip Ganassi Racing), Charlie Kimball (No. 83 Novo Nordisk Chip Ganassi Racing) and recently-signed Chilton (No. 8 Chevrolet) will participate in the test on the 12-turn, 2.38-mile road course. This will mark Chilton’s first-ever laps in an Indy car.
Toyota killing its Scion brand Toyota is committing corporate filicide.
The automaker has announced that it is killing its youth-oriented Scion brand and transitioning the models currently sold by the division to Toyota in August.
Scion was launched in 2002 in an effort to attract younger car buyers to the Toyota fray, and was successful at that. Its average customer age of 36 is the lowest in the automotive industry, but its overall sales peaked at 173,034 in 2006 and were just 56,167 last year.
USF2000 Champion climbs Mazda Road to Indy ladder to Pro Mazda
Nico Jamin, who won the 2015 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship in dominant fashion, will contest the 2016 Pro Mazda Series with Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. Jamin, a 20-year-old from Rouen, France, won the Mazda Road to Indy driver development scholarship with his USF2000 championship, and moves up to the Pro Mazda ranks with the team that propelled him to 10 race wins last season.
“We’re extremely happy to have Nico compete on behalf of Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing for the 2016 season,” said Dominic Cape, team owner. “Nico demonstrated to everyone how competitive he was in capturing 13 pole positions, winning 10 races and ultimately claiming the 2015 championship along with the coveted Mazda scholarship. Nico has impressed us already during the initial tests he has done with the team and we’re really looking forward to seeing him race in 2016.”

The Onroak Ligier blew the Daytona Prototypes into the weeds in the Rolex 24
While fresh off a historic victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Onroak Automotive is set to soon lay a foundation in the U.S. of its own, as the French constructor sets its sights on 2017 and beyond in the emerging North American prototype market.
Plans are moving forward for Onroak - constructors of the Ligier LMP2, LMP3 and CN cars - to open a workshop and full support network by the end of the year.
According to company president Jacques Nicolet, the initial infrastructure is already being put in place, headed up by his son, Pierre, who is serving as CEO of the newly formed company.
Premium Motorsports named Cole Whitt as the driver of the No. 98 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entry.
The 24-year-old Whitt, who will be entering his third full season in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, finished 31st in driver points each of his first two seasons.
“We believe Cole is an accomplished young driver who drives aggressively, yet smart,” team owner Jay Robinson said. "He’s a great fit for our team as we look to improve our competitiveness in the Sprint Cup Series."
Movistar Yamaha MotoGP Wraps Up Sepang Test on Top
Despite the changeable weather, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP riders Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi completed the three-day test at the Sepang International Circuit topping the standings with a perfect 1-2.
The final day of the first Official MotoGP test of 2016 started off slowly for the Movistar Yamaha MotoGP team. Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi arrived at the Malaysian track this morning ready to pick up the testing schedule where they left off yesterday, but were forced to wait for the dry line to form around the Sepang International Circuit for most of the morning. Once they headed out on track in the afternoon both riders were quick to prove their key protagonist status for 2016, finishing first and second respectively in the overall test standings.

The Daytona Speedway tax rebate can help pay for the adjacent Daytona One project
The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity this week determined that three professional sports stadiums -- including Daytona Int'l Speedway -- "are eligible to receive" state sales tax rebates, according to Eileen Zaffiro-Kean of the Daytona Beach NEWS-JOURNAL. Also "making the cut" were EverBank Field and Sun Life Stadium.
A fourth application was "initially submitted" for Raymond James Stadium, "but no review was concluded since paperwork wasn't completed on time." The three qualifying venues "still need state legislators to approve funding before the session ends next month." State House leaders "have been reluctant to set aside tens of millions of dollars over the next 30 years to pay for stadium improvements."
