Q and A with EJ Viso on Andretti/HVM announcement Earlier today, Andretti Autosport announced it has signed IZOD IndyCar Series veteran E.J. Viso to drive a fourth full-time IZOD IndyCar Series entry in 2013. Viso will drive the No. 5 Team Venezuela PDVSA Chevrolet in his sixth season in the IZOD IndyCar Series. The sponsors, they come from my country, and they just pretty much merged together and created Team Venezuela, which later on created a partnership with Andretti Autosport.
Today is the day that we're announcing this, and I definitely have no words to thank each of the parties. Definitely, it's a very interesting and exciting day for me. I believe that I will be counting with every single ‑‑ with every single thing needed to have a successful 2013.

Pirelli calls for Jerez resurfacing Formula 1 teams may need to consider an alternative venue to Jerez for pre-season tire testing next year unless the Spanish venue undergoes a track resurface, according to Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery.
Hembery claims that this week's first action at Jerez has been compromised by the surface being too rough to allow proper evaluation of tires.
"The track is rather abrasive - and is substantially worse than last year," said Hembery, when asked by AUTOSPORT for his feelings on what had been learned this week.
"We have seen quite a lot of shredding of tires, and there seems to be a lack of bitumen in the track, so we are looking at a very open surface.

NASCAR to reallocate prize money NASCAR will reallocate prize money from the last five spots in the field this season in an attempt to make it less profitable for teams to start and park. "We moved prize money higher in the purse, so if someone's intent is solely to run a lap or two and park, the revenue stream shrinks,'' NASCAR president Mike Helton said Tuesday during an "Autoweek" panel discussion in Detroit.
According to NASCAR, each position from 43rd through 39th will receive $4,000 less for each position. For example, 39th will receive $4,000 less than 38th, 40th $4,000 less than 39th, etc.
NASCAR spokesman Kerry Tharp emphasized this is not a reduction in purses, that the overall prize money in 2013 will increase slightly. He said the money taken away from the last five spots will be redistributed "throughout the remainder of the field.'' ESPN

Edwards said the digital speedometer on his Ford Fusion hit 193 mph right before entering turn three, a typically unheard of speed at the ultra-tricky track. "Each time down, you want to watch and see what you're doing," he said.
"But the fastest point is the point where the track needs your attention and your eyes are not supposed to be on that monitor. I saw 193 or something, but I can't look at it any longer before I have to look into the corner." #11-Denny Hamlin, #56-Martin Truex Jr., #27-Paul Menard and #42-Juan Pablo Montoya were also at Darlington for the daylong session.

Lewis Hamilton's full testing debut for Mercedes has suffered a significant setback on Wednesday morning at Jerez after the Briton crashed into a tire barrier.
Having just come off the second-fastest lap of the day to that point in Spain, Hamilton's W04 went straight on at the Dry Sack hairpin and plowed straight through the gravel and into a nose-first impact with the tire wall.
Hamilton clambered out of the stricken car without assistance but the impact broke the front wing on the new W04, which was promptly put on a rescue truck and taken back to the pitlane.

The feat also ensured he will start on the pole position for the first of two more races tomorrow.
