People pay $116,500 for a spot in this Palm Desert garage
The Vault at Big Horn may be the world's most expensive parking lot. Residents at the exclusive Palm Desert compound pay a $110,000 initiation fee, and $6,500 a year, to secure one of the limited spaces in the private garage
Palm Springs real estate is expensive. But if you want to pay top dollar for parking, look to nearby Palm Desert.
Members of the Bighorn Golf Club, a private facility inside a golfing community in that desert town, paid an initiation fee of $110,000 and $6,500 in annual dues for the privilege of parking their exotic cars in The Vault, Bighorn's extra-exclusive private garage.
Bikers get a break. They paid only $55,000 for their spots.
The 50 car spaces at the 24,000-square-foot facility were sold before The Vault began construction in 2014, and the additional eight motorcycle slots also were gone before the museum-like space opened in November. Now there's a waiting list.

Elon Musk is the same sort of visionary as Steve Jobs was, and exhibits the same trait of driving his staff to achieve the impossible. Apple needs Elon Musk to give them the 'vision' again and Musk needs Apple's cash hoard to deliver 500,000 cars a year by 2020. Why the two companies don't merge is beyond us.
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) -- Leave it to Elon Musk to make a company's stock jump nearly 5 percent a day after reporting widening losses -- all in the middle of a market selloff.
Musk's electric vehicle startup, Tesla Motors Inc., on Wednesday posted its eleventh straight quarterly loss, when analysts had expected a profit. Tesla also said it planned $1.5 billion in capital spending this year but had just $1.2 billion in the bank.
Investors focused instead on Musk's promises to make Tesla profitable this year and to deliver 60 percent to 80 percent more vehicles than last year. Analysts described the forecasts as ambitious but not impossible.
It's precisely that outsized optimism that defines Musk and his appeal to the market, despite blown deadlines and long waits for profits in high-risk industries. Musk's two other ventures, SolarCity Corp. and Space Exploration Technologies, also face steep challenges in cutting-edge industries.

Inspired by those very scenes, Chevrolet is drawing attention to the wide array of available active safety technologies in its all-new 2016 Malibu and Cruze in a trailer that is playing in theaters nationwide.
