Apex-Brasil terminates IndyCar deal
With miniscule TV ratings on NBCSN and no race in Brazil, there is no reason for Apex-Brasil to continue with IndyCar
On the heels of losing its second Brazil race in as many years, the IndyCar Series no longer has its significant partnership with Apex-Brasil, the Brazilian company that promotes foreign trade.

Apex-Brasil, which stands for the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, first partnered with IndyCar in 2008, and its most recent contract extension was confirmed on the morning of the 2012 Indianapolis 500.

Terms of the contract were good through the end of 2014, but Apex-Brasil decided to go a different direction with its funding, IndyCar confirmed Friday.

Force India VJM08 studio photo with drivers
(GMM)  Signs of life emerged from Force India on Friday.

The Silverstone based team sat out the opening test of the winter at Jerez amid rumors of financial problems and crippling debts to suppliers.

Team racer Nico Hulkenberg has at least been filling his idle time with track action, testing the new Porsche in Bahrain this week ahead of his Le Mans debut later this year.

Bourdais and Vasser test Champ Cars at NOLA (Update) UPDATE Gotta love this quote from Scot Elkins, who headed up the DP-01 project for Champ Car:

"The DP-01 was the highlight of my career. And those who say it was not designed for ovals don't know the story. We crash tested it to surpass the then current FIA and IRL standards. It passed both standards easily. We even (secret is ok to share now) built it to fit the IRL engine in case a merger ever took place."

So instead of using the good looking, vastly superior DP01, as part of the merger Champ Car teams had to buy what Paul Tracy called 'Crapwagons', since replaced by the hideous looking DW12 that has sent fans heading for the exits for years.

Dennis: No company can afford to be an F1 team title sponsor today
Dennis: F1 has priced itself out of the title sponsor market
Declaring McLaren to be the "Man United" of Formula 1, Ron Dennis says he won't sell the right to be the team's title sponsor on the cheap.

McLaren, who have not won a grand prix since 2012, went through last year's campaign without a title sponsor after parting ways with Vodafone.

This season they could again go without one.

According to the McLaren chairman, a title sponsor should bring in roughly half the team's budget and if they don't, the team is selling itself short.

Vickers discusses how he is feeling and plans
Brian Vickers
Brian Vickers

Brian Vickers met with members of the media at Media Day at Daytona International Speedway, Vickers was asked how he felt after corrective heart surgery a few months ago. Vickers will miss the first two races of the season (Waltrip in at Daytona, Moffitt in at Atlanta).

Q) How are you feeling after surgery in December?
VICKERS: "I'm feeling good considering everything. It's amazing with everything that's happened and how fast the recovery has been and how well I feel now relative to how I felt a month ago or two months ago much less."

Q) How are your chest and the wiring healing?
VICKERS: "It feels great. I had rehab, training - I've been kind of training quite a bit actually - and really just kind of pushing the boundaries every day of what I can do and kind of getting the chest healed and better and strengthened. I feel like I could be back in a car now, but they're still going to make me wait a few weeks."

Stewart says leg injury no longer an issue
Tony Stewart
Tony Stewart, met with members of the media at Media Day at Daytona International Speedway (full interview here), some questions were about his leg injury from a Sprint Car wreck in 2013:
Q). How did you feel at the end of last season?
TONY STEWART
: I mean, not 100% leg-wise, but in the car I'm fine. I felt fine last year. Everybody wanted to blame it on the injury last year, and that didn't have anything to do with it when it came time to drive the car. We are in better shape than we were last year.

NASCAR Hall of Fame leaves Charlotte with load of debt
(Bloomberg) -- Charlotte, where almost 30,000 people make a living off Nascar auto races, would seem the perfect place for a museum honoring driving legends such as Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.

As it turns out, the $192 million Nascar Hall of Fame, with vintage cars dating to the 1940s, is drawing fewer than half the visitors forecast when it opened in 2010, leading officials last month to use $5 million of public funds to settle bank loans. The move is raising questions about how North Carolina's largest city has financed economic development.

"It was a bad deal for the taxpayers," said Kenny Smith, a City Council member and Nascar fan who opposes the funding of the museum. "The city invested taxpayer money based on faulty assumptions that didn't come to fruition."

Renault not yet 'exploring limits' of 2015 engine
2015 Renault engine
(GMM)  Renault has confirmed reports it did not hit full throttle at the recent Jerez test.

Works team Red Bull evidently had a difficult start to the winter season, struggling for pace and laps with the new RB11 car.

Under its skin is a heavily-upgraded Renault 'power unit', the result of a sweeping restructuring at the French marque and the hefty exchange of so-called unfreeze performance 'tokens'.

After Jerez, though, Red Bull's Dr Helmut Marko played down rumors of technical trouble, insisting the RB11 was running "a mix of old and new parts" and a new engine running at "reduced power".

2017 reform could entice Newey back - Horner
Adrian Newey
(GMM)  A big change to the regulations could convince Adrian Newey to return to full throttle in formula one.

That is the claim of Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, who insists Newey's step backwards to work on other technology projects is actually a good opportunity for other engineers to show their worth.

It is obvious, however, that the highly-rated Newey made the decision to step back due to his frustration with the ever-tightening chassis rules.

"This (RB11) is the first car in my formula one career that hasn't had my sole attention, time-wise," he admitted at the recent Jerez test.

Button happy to be Alonso's teammate
Button and Alonso
(GMM)  Jenson Button insists he is happy to be paired with Fernando Alonso.

Both sides of the new McLaren-Honda garage have won world championships, but Spaniard Alonso is regarded not only as arguably the best on the grid, but perhaps often difficult to share a team with.

Notably, he clashed at McLaren with Lewis Hamilton, and at Ferrari he humbled two consecutive Ferrari teammates, Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.

McLaren supremo Ron Dennis, however, says he has noticed Alonso is now "more mature" than in 2007, and has not arrived demanding clear number 1 status.
