IndyCar News Bits Team Penske driver Josef Newgarden is taking an active role tonight representing the Verizon IndyCar Series for Grand Prix Night at the Detroit Pistons' NBA game to help promote the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear in June. The driver of the No. 2 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet will sign autographs for fans at the Palace of Auburn Hills before the game with the Charlotte Hornets. The Mazda Road to Indy presented by Cooper Tires has been the standard bearer when it comes to successfully developing driving talent and progressing it up the open-wheel ladder until eventually landing in the Verizon IndyCar Series.
The three levels of the stepladder, formally gathered under the MRTI umbrella and sanctioned by INDYCAR since 2010, have helped produce no fewer than 15 current Verizon IndyCar Series drivers. Among them are six former Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires champions.
The newest addition in the "stepladder to success" story comes in the form of a team, Juncos Racing. A winner of seven MRTI championships and 41 races since joining the development ladder in 2009, the team announced Tuesday that it would take the next step by entering this year's Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.
As Indy car test sessions go, it was considered a thank you from a manufacturer. Judging from Ricky Taylor's smile after climbing out of Simon Pagenaud's car, he was quite welcome.
Taylor spent today testing the Team Penske No. 1 Chevrolet - the same car Pagenaud will drive in two weeks when the Verizon IndyCar Series season opens at St. Petersburg, Florida - around the Homestead-Miami Speedway road course in Homestead, Florida.
The test was considered a courtesy by Chevrolet and General Motors to Taylor for his seven wins in four years in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship - most notably his victory last month in a Cadillac prototype with Jeff Gordon, Max Angelelli and brother Jordan Taylor in the Rolex 24 At Daytona endurance race.

Two of Canada's most successful active racing drivers will travel from Florida to Italy for a first-hand experience of how the other half lives. After years of discussing the possibility, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports driver James Hinchcliffe - the pole sitter for the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil - and current DTM touring car driver Robert Wickens will swap rides in separate test sessions in the coming weeks.
Wickens will get the first turn behind the wheel of Hinchcliffe's No. 5 Arrow Electronics Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda during a private team test at Sebring International Raceway in Florida on Feb. 28. Hinchcliffe is scheduled to drive the HWA Team's factory Mercedes AMG at the Vallelunga Circuit outside of Rome on March 17. The two Canadians are excited to see the opportunity finally come to fruition.
Andretti Carves Out New Partnership With Butterball
U.S. based food corporation Butterball will continue its relationship with four-time Verizon IndyCar Series championship team Andretti Autosport for a fourth straight year. The winning combination began in May 2014 when they partnered with Ryan Hunter-Reay shortly before he went on to win the 98th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Butterball will continue as an associate sponsor of the No. 28 DHL Honda of Hunter-Reay, who is excited to renew the relationship for another season.
"Butterball has been a great partner since 2014 and I'm really excited to have them on board again this year," said Hunter-Reay. "They were with me when I won the Indianapolis 500 which was a really special moment for everyone involved. Hopefully we can bring them back into victory lane this year, not only at Indy, but throughout the season as well."
Pirelli will bring more than 3500 tires to Barcelona for the first eight days of testing with the latest-generation 2017 cars (from February 27-March 2, then again from March 7-10).
Last year, Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari carried out a series of tests with mule cars from August to November: 2015 chassis that had been modified to simulate the increased downforce levels of the 2017 technical regulations. The other teams had full access to the data generated by the mule car tests, but for them the tests in Spain will be a very first taste of the new wider 2017 tires. At the front, the tires grow from 245mm to 305mm in width: at the back, they grow from 325mm to 405mm. The diameter of the wheel rims remains unchanged at 13 inches.

Lincoln Tech will be carefully selecting one student and an instructor for each of the six races occurring between April 9 and June 10 who will become completely immersed within the SPM team.
Video: Corvette Rolex Driver Change With Corvette Racing at Sebring International Raceway today and tomorrow for a two-day IMSA test, it makes sense to look at one of the most critical - and sometimes overlooked - components to an endurance race: pit stops and driver changes.
For long-distance races such as the upcoming Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring Fueled by Fresh from Florida, the execution of pit stops in the GT Le Mans class is paramount. Race victories come down to fractions of a second, and many of those are gained or lost in the pit lane during driver changes, fueling and tire changes.

A dozen years ago, few leagues could match the popularity of NASCAR, which boasted record-high viewership and was going toe-to-toe with the NFL. But then few leagues suffered worse during the economic crash. NASCAR watched as corporate sponsors fled the sport and fans tuned out by the million. Though the race series has bounced back in the years since, it's never returned to those pre-crash highs and some continuing negative trends have taken their toll: Team values are down this year, with the top ten worth an average $137 million, a 7% drop.
The top three teams are: 1. Hendrick Motorsports - Team Value $350 million, 2016 revenue $200 million 2. Joe Gibbs Racing - Team Value $225 million, 2016 revenue $135 million 3. Stewart-Haas Racing - Team Value $180 million, 2016 revenue $112 million Forbes
On Wednesday, Tesla posted a Q4 2016 loss of $121.3 million, but the loss was narrower than the $320 million net loss from the year earlier. The company said it made $2.28 billion in revenue in the quarter, up from $1.24 billion in Q4 the year before. Tesla reported $7 billion in annual gross revenue in 2016.
All that comes on the heels of a Q3 in which the company posted a rare profitable quarter that CEO Elon Musk called Tesla’s "best quarter ever."

Norway aims to end sales of fuel-burning car by 2025 as EV market soars
The oil industry has to pump as much oil out of the ground now while they still have a market for it. At some point there will be minimal demand for it. Hence why AR1.com does not see oil prices ever skyrocketing again.
The global electric vehicle (EV) revolution reached another milestone last month as EVs made up 37 percent share of Norway's car market.
Norway understands the future of ground transport is electric and has been pushing EVs harder than almost any other country in the world with incentives such as an exemption from the 25 percent VAT tax for new cars.
In December, the country hit 100,000 zero-emission EVs on the road, and they are projected to quadruple to 400,000 by 2020. These numbers are especially remarkable for a country of only 5.2 million people. Over five percent of all of Norway's cars are EVs, up from one percent two years ago.

Kyle Larson's car was parked with 14 laps remaining in the Clash at Daytona exhibition Sunday when his team had more than six crewmen over the wall to work on the car. NASCAR's new damaged vehicle policy states that the penalty for "too many men over the wall" is the car can't continue in the race. There was confusion all around the Chip Ganassi Racing camp as NASCAR had said the five-minute clock for repairs on pit road wouldn't be used. But the remainder of the policy -- that body panels and pieces can't be replaced, work on damaged cars must be done on pit road, etc. -- was in effect.
