Lawrence Loshak

A late-race restart proved to be no problem for Lawrence Loshak, who drove to a flag-to-flag victory in the opening race of the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli championship at Sebring International Raceway on Sunday.

Defending champion Ernie Francis Jr. pressured Loshak for the opening six laps before pitting with a transmission issue, costing him 12 laps.

Making a case for IndyCar at Adelaide instead of Surfers
The 3.78 km (2.347-mile) Adelaide circuit is everything a street circuit should be
The 3.78 km (2.347-mile) Adelaide circuit is everything a street circuit should be. F1 used to race there.
A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, Please tell me the first time that Mr. Miles says anything like, "We are considering Adelaide," so I can start saving for the trip. I've been to Gold Coast, but not for a race. It's a terrific city, though relatively expensive. The Supercars put on a really fun event. But, for a fan primarily interested in seeing actual racing, it stinks, (unless you're a fan of crashed cars). For fans attending a street race, the rule is: very limited track views, and even more limited ability to move from one good spot to another. Really, very few good viewing spots, period.  You get to watch most of the race on TV  -- a TV that is (probably) bigger than the one you could have used at your own home. Adelaide is the exception to that rule.

Race winner Kyle Busch and crew chief Ben Beshore (No. 18 Extreme Concepts/iK9 Toyota).

It took successful a gamble, a serendipitous caution and a couple of overtimes for Las Vegas native Kyle Busch to win a second NASCAR Xfinity Series race on his home track, but Busch beat the odds in Saturday’s Boyd Gaming 300. A lap down at Las Vegas Motor Speedway after an unscheduled pit stop for a loose wheel, Busch rallied to win his 93rd Xfinity race, extending his series record and bringing his victory total across NASCAR’s three national series to 197.

Definitely not the greatest
The greatest drivers in the world?
The greatest drivers in the world?

A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, I remember when the NASCAR TV announcers would tout every single race that NASCAR drivers are the best drivers in the world.

Bullocks. Those wankers can't finish a race without numerous crashes and green-white-checker finishes i.e. overtime.  Last night's Xfinity race required two overtime finishes because the wankers could not stop crashing. The Daytona 500 is always an embarrassing wreckfest with most cars going home a mangled mess.

Five F1 races up for renewals this year
Are the huge Monza crowds enough to save the Italian GP?
Are the huge Monza crowds enough to save the Italian GP w/o government backing?

Formula 1 chairman Chase Carey has said the fact five race deals will expire this year "is nothing unique" and that it's a challenge the sport will face every year since there are 20 venues with contracts that expire at varying times.

But with sanction fees so high, all F1 races need VooDoo economics to make them work. Race promoters lose their shirt without government support for the event.

Mexico is the most recent addition to the list of races which don't have a deal past 2019 after it missed the deadline to keep its preferred date on the calendar following the withdrawal of its government's financial support.

Scott McLaughlin. Note the huge crowds Adelaide gets. Why isn't IndyCar racing in Adelaide instead of Surfers with the Supercars?

Youngster Cameron Waters announced himself on Supercars big stage even though he was second to the unstoppable Scott McLaughlin in the Superloop Adelaide 500.

McLaughlin was, for the second day running, in a league of his own but it was 24-year-old Waters who grabbed a podium after the heartbreak of being ripped out of race one by a cool suit failure.

Waters won the Sandown 500 two years ago with Richie Stanaway, finishing eighth in the Championship that year. Now in a new Monster Energy Ford Mustang, Waters was amongst the best performers in the opening weekend of the Supercars season.

Desperate for car count - The next generation chassis for the Formula Atlantic class in SCCA Road Racing competition is shown here with the introduction of the F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda. Drivers over the age 35 and over will now be entered in the Masters Cup contingency program.
The debut of the F3 Americas Championship Powered by Honda introduced the next generation chassis for the Formula Atlantic class in SCCA Road Racing competition. In an effort to attract drivers who are looking to maximize their racing opportunities with a cost-effective competition package that doesn’t sacrifice safety, speed or style, the F3 Americas program developed a new contingency program targeted to drivers age 35 and over. With more than $15,000 in cash and prizes available, the Masters Cup contingency package will award top drivers who are at least 35 years old with cash prizes at each event. The Masters Cup points-leading driver at the end of the season will receive the Masters Cup Champion contingency prize package.

“The Ligier JS F3 chassis is a fantastic opportunity for drivers to not only participate with the F3 Americas Championship, but continue racing with Formula Race Promotions or run at the SCCA Road Racing regional or national level.” Sydney Davis Yagel, SCCA Pro Racing General Manager said. “Our goal with the Masters Cup is to provide a platform for drivers to get the most out of their investment by giving them multiple on-track participation opportunities.”

MotoGP has introduced a so-called 'Long Lap' penalty for the 2019 season aimed at making the penalty for track limit infringements fairer.

If a rider is found to have exceeded track limits and therefore gained an unfair advantage, the stewards will now impose the Long Lap penalty, rather than a Change of Position penalty, which requires the rider to take a longer route around a pre-determined corner, which will be marked out, costing them several seconds.
