Daniel Hemric will pilot the No. 8 Chevrolet in two Cup Series races
NASCAR Xfinity Series regular Daniel Hemric is scheduled to make his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut on April 21, 2018 at Richmond Raceway with partner Smokey Mountain Herbal Snuff on the No. 8 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, Richard Childress Racing announced today on FS1's "NASCAR Race Hub."
This will be the first of two MENCS events in 2018 for the 27-year-old driver. He will also pilot the No. 8 Smokey Mountain Herbal Snuff Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 at Charlotte Motor Speedway's road course on Sept. 30.

UPDATE IndyCar is unveiling its new media-rights deal tomorrow, CEO Mark Miles confirmed this afternoon.
IndyCar’s deals with NBCSN and ABC expire after this season, and the series has been negotiating with the incumbents to try to get one to pick up the full season. A since-deleted tweet from an ABC-affiliated meteorologist on Saturday stated that '18 will be the final year of IndyCar races on ABC, including the Indy 500. IndyCar and NBC have yet to confirm that.

Beginning in April 2018, the famed 11-turn, 2.238-mile road course will be known as WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Formula E driver Lucas di Grassi was fined $12,300 USD in the wake of the Punta del Este ePrix after stewards discovered di Grassi had worn underwear unapproved by safety regulations during the race.
The FIA stated that after a post-race investigation of di Grassi's safety gear, including his helmet, neck restraints, and clothing, it was discovered that his fire-resistant underwear was too short. di Grassi states that he wore noncompliant underwear because Uruguay's heat had made him sweat so much that the rest of his pairs were uncomfortable.
UPDATE Ridebuyer Landon Cassill will drive the No. 00 Chevrolet for StarCom Racing in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for next two races at Martinsville and Texas. Cassill replaces Jeffrey Earnhardt, who mutually split from the team after the conclusion of the West Coast swing after running out of money to buy his ride. Cassill was surprisingly made a free agent late last season when Front Row Motorsports opted to hire Michael McDowell to pair with David Ragan. McDowell's check was bigger.

Hendrick Motorsports withdraws appeal to No. 9 penalty

Hendrick Motorsports has withdrawn its request to appeal the penalty issued to its No. 9 team following the March 11 race at Phoenix, according to NASCAR officials, meaning the team’s car chief will begin his two-week suspension this week.
The No. 9 team was found to have violated Section 20.14.2 of the Rule Book, which deals with rear suspension and trailing arm angles/pinion angle shims. According to the penalty report: Truck trailing arm spacer/pinion angle shim surfaces must be in complete contact at all points, at all times. Failure to adhere to that can create additional sideforce and is a violation.

Banc of California, Long Beach Unified School District (LBUSD) and the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach have partnered to bring about 100 high school students for a day of learning at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach on Friday, April 13.
The students will come from Cabrillo, Jordan, Long Beach Poly, McBride, Millikan, Sato and Avalon high schools, and were selected because they are studying engineering, green power and business at their respective schools.

Uber has pulled its fleet of self-driving cars off the roads after a reported crash in Arizona.
ABC 15 reported that the accident involving a self-driving vehicle happened early Monday morning in Tempe. It's unclear whether there were any injuries.
An Uber spokesperson said the company was cooperating with local authorities on the investigation.
Uber has paused self-driving operations in Tempe, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto. The company has not said how long it plans to keep the cars off the streets.

In honor of the of 25th Anniversary of Mario Andretti’s last career win, the third-generation driver will race the Oberto Beef Jerky Circle K / Curb Honda in the colors of his grandfather’s 1993 winning car.
“We’re really excited to see Oberto back on the car this year. Andretti Autosport has built a strong relationship with them and we’re happy to continue to grow the partnership,” said Marco Andretti. “When the idea of a throwback livery celebrating my grandfather’s final win was thrown around, Oberto was ready to get to the drawing board. Toyota is dropping diesels but Mercedes is still willing to kill humans with its dirty diesels
The diesel’s fall from grace in Europe, where it has long been a mainstay of the car market, has been quick in the aftermath of the Volkswagen diesel scandal. And last week at the Geneva auto show, Toyota also announced that it will be phasing out all diesel engines from its passenger-car lineup in Europe this year.
Demand for diesels in Europe is falling rapidly, slipping from about 50 percent of the passenger-car market in 2017 to about 44 percent this year and anticipated to fall to 30 percent in 2020. At Toyota, hybrids now make up 41 percent of sales across Europe and nearly 80 percent of sales for the C-HR crossover. Toyota said that the new generation of the Auris—the region’s version of the Corolla—will be offered only in hybrid and gasoline versions.
