FIA confirms German GP demise
(GMM)  F1's governing body has removed Germany from the 2015 calendar.

The move follows both the Nurburgring and Hockenheim having declared that time ran out as they negotiated new deals with Bernie Ecclestone.

"The German grand prix has been withdrawn as the CRH (commercial rights holder) and promoter did not reach agreement," the FIA said in a statement after Friday's meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Geneva.

It means the calendar drops from 20 races this year to 19, with the July 19 race slot left empty.

Carl Edwards on his practice accident
Carl Edwards
Below is a statement from Carl Edwards, driver of the #19 Stanley Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry regarding his accident earlier today in preparation for Sunday's Auto Club 400. The statement comes to us courtesy of Toyota Racing:

"We went from a 12-inch to a six-inch sub pretty quick. I tried to save it – I got a little bit loose off – and I tried to save it and that was a mistake. I had a ton of throttle and the lap was going really well coming off Turn Four. It got a little bit loose and I was like, 'Man, I'm not going to hit the fence,' and I thought, 'I should lock it down.' Right there I was thinking 'Lock it down,' and I thought, 'Nah, I'll save it,' and that was not the right decision. Anyway, the guys – I don't know if we can use this engine and keep our qualifying spot or what. The guys have a lot of work in front of them. I hate to do that. I think we were having a pretty good lap there."

Michael Waltrip discusses Brian Vickers health
Michael Waltrip
MICHAEL WALTRIP, co-owner, Michael Waltrip Racing
Why will Brian Vickers miss the Auto Club Speedway race?

"We're here to talk about Brian Vickers. He unfortunately had another episode with clotting last evening and he is going to miss the race this weekend. It's Blood Clot Awareness Month and Brian was here on behalf of our partner Janssen to talk about the importance of recognizing the symptoms and the feelings that you get when you are experiencing clotting.

"That was going to be the message for the weekend for Brian to talk about that and unfortunately he's not going to be able to do that, but I think it's just a great example of how important awareness is and understanding what the symptoms are that if you have clotting. He recognized those symptoms. He got in touch with his doctors and they began treatment on Brian.

Talladega adding SAFER barriers
Talladega Superspeedway will add an energy-absorbing barrier to three areas of its inside wall prior to its May 1-3 NASCAR race weekend. The high-banked track, configured much like Daytona International Speedway, will add SAFER barriers on its inside wall at the entrances to pit road, Turn 1 and Turn 3, track chairman Grant Lynch said Thursday in a statement.

"We are committed to making Talladega Superspeedway a safe environment for drivers as well as our fans," he said. Kyle Busch broke his right leg and left foot when he crashed into a concrete inside wall near the entrance of Turn 1 in February at Daytona.

NASCAR CEO admits 'Car of Tomorrow' was complete failure
Brian France
It was a tough question for someone so steeped in American motorsports history.

But NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France took it on the chin today in Dearborn: What was his biggest failure in his 12-year reign as stockcar racing's top executive?

France, 52, whose grandfather, Bill France Sr., founded NASCAR in 1948, didn't flinch in admitting it was the "Car of Tomorrow," the fifth-generation style Sprint Cup Series race car that was introduced in 2007 and was replaced in 2013 by the smaller, lighter Gen-6 model.

Tire barriers used as safety stopgap
When Kyle Busch crashed head-on into an unprotected concrete wall at Daytona International Speedway, it left one of NASCAR's biggest stars hospitalized with a broken right leg and left foot and sidelined indefinitely.

It also forced NASCAR and racing venues to take a fast, hard look at how they can make tracks safer — now.

The immediate answer has been tire barriers — stacks of tires bolted together into packs that can be installed relatively quickly at areas where the sanctioning body or tracks see a need for cushioning.

Landing Rolling Stones concert would achieve three big goals for IMS
Carb Day concert at Indy
Carb Day concert at Indy
If the Indianapolis Motor Speedway lands a concert featuring the Rolling Stones, as is being widely speculated, that would achieve three major goals for Mark Miles.

Since becoming CEO of IMS and IndyCar Series parent Hulman & Co. in December, 2012, Miles has sought to increase revenue by almost any means possible—for instance, a solar farm; diversify the massive facility’s revenue stream—whether by hosting a vintage car race or massive concert; and to make the Speedway even more relevant to this city and region than it already is.

Snagging the Rolling Stones would certainly tick those three boxes.
