Indiana governor vows to make changes to religious freedom law
Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said Tuesday during a news conference at the Indiana State Library that he wants legislation on his desk by the end of the week to clarify that the state's new religious freedom law does not allow discrimination against gays and lesbians.

Pence defended the measure as a vehicle to protect religious liberty but said he has been meeting with lawmakers "around the clock" to address concerns that it would allow businesses to deny services to gay customers.

The governor said he does not believe "for a minute" that lawmakers intended "to create a license to discriminate."

Tyler Walker arrested again, get jail sentence UPDATE Court records show Timothy Tyler Andrew Walker was sentenced Monday in St. George after pleading guilty to five charges stemming from the January 2013 chase in Nevada, Arizona and Utah. Walker competed in 28 lower-tier NASCAR races before the stock car racing association suspended him in 2007 for violating its drug policy.

A former NASCAR driver who led police on a 150 mph chase through three southwestern states was re-arrested Monday morning after showing up 45 minutes late for a sentencing hearing. Timothy Tyler Andrew Walker, 35, was scheduled to be sentenced in southern Utah's Washington County on Monday morning for five charges stemming from the chase. But after Walker failed to show, state Judge Eric Ludlow issued an arrest warrant for Walker, according to Washington County prosecutor Rachelle Shumway.

When Walker arrived, Ludlow ordered his arrest. Shumway said Walker was taken to the county jail, where he will be held without bail until a rescheduled sentencing March 30. The Spectrum newspaper in St. George reported that Terry told the judge he had spoken with his client Sunday night and had expected him in court. Walker, of Hermosa Beach, California, pleaded guilty in December as part of a deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time. He was expected to get probation in return for his guilty pleas, but Shumway said it's possible Walker's arrest could result in a different sentence. Associated Press

IndyCar St. Petersburg GP TV Rating (Update) UPDATE The 'final' TV rating for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg IndyCar season opener on ABC was a disappointing 0.6 rating, with 891,316 people tuned in. The 0.6 final rating was the same as 2014, but the viewership was up slightly from 2014 (860,215). When you have a car that is as ugly as the Dallara, and sounds so quiet it doesn't knock your socks off, fans are disinterested. Were IndyCar to switch to a mind-blowing screaming engine like F1 used to have, the series would grow in leaps and bounds.

03/30/15 ABC yesterday drew a 0.8 'overnight' with over 1 million viewers tuned in for the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, which was the opening race for the Verizon IndyCar Series season. That figure is up from a 0.6 overnight last year for the same race on the same weekend, also on ABC.

F1 Teams wary of ulterior motives over fifth engine
A number of teams are wary a potential return to five power units this season could be due to ulterior motives, F1i has learned.

A meeting of all the teams with Bernie Ecclestone in Malaysia saw a proposal for a fifth power unit to be allowed this season, with the current regulations stating only four must be used for the 19 races. While the idea was provisionally agreed - with Red Bull team principal Christian Horner saying it's certain to go ahead - a number of other team bosses are more cautious about the idea.

IndyCar's Montoya more approachable this season
Juan Montoya
The scene at the end of the Verizon IndyCar Series Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg bore no resemblance to any other victory celebrations in the life of Juan Pablo Montoya.

This was a joyous occasion with Montoya mingling and glad-handing with fans like there were old friends he hadn’t seen in decades.

It was, however, in direct contrast to the Juan Pablo Montoya of Formula 1 fame, the aloof Montoya who carried his Monaco win, his Indianapolis 500 win and his CART championship win like a monarch carries their crown.

Despite poor attendance, Malaysia agrees three-year extension to host F1
See the empty grandstand in the background. Plenty more like that on Sunday. Fans despise the sound of the new F1 engines.
See the empty grandstand in the background. Plenty more like that on Sunday. Fans despise the sound of the new F1 engines.
Last year they came, they watched, they listened, they found that the thrill of the screaming F1 engines were gone, and they didn't come back.  The grandstands were only 1/3 to 1/2 full for Sunday's Malaysian GP and they aren't coming back unless the thrill of the scream returns.

Despite the financial bloodbath the promoter took on the race, the Malaysian Grand Prix will continue to be a feature on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2018 following an extension to its current contract.

The Sepang International Circuit has played host to F1 since 1999, but there was concern they wouldn't renew their contract which was due to expire this year.

However following Sebastian Vettel's surprise victory on Sunday, Malaysian prime minister YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib confirmed they had agreed a three-year extension.

Title sponsor Petronas, which also sponsors Mercedes, has also signed on for the duration of the new deal.

Ecclestone eyes series for female drivers (Update) UPDATE
Susie Wolff thinks she can compete with the men in F1
Williams development driver Susie Wolff has criticized proposals by Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone for an all-female championship.

Ecclestone is reportedly considering the idea of a women-only category, but Wolff has suggested that the idea has several flaws.

Wolff is quoted by Auto Week as saying: "First of all, I don't know where you'd find a full grid of female drivers who are good enough.

"Secondly, I have raced my whole career in motorsport as a normal competitor. Why would I ever look for a race where I was only competing against women?

Penske warns teams not to mess with tires
Roger Penske
Roger Penske
Roger Penske has warned his NASCAR team to stay out of any controversy regarding the possible manipulation of tires used during races. The team owner is aware of rampant industry speculation that some crews are drilling tiny holes in tires to allow air to escape during a race, a process known as "bleeding tires." NASCAR has confiscated tires the last two weeks, including those of Team Penske driver #22-Joey Logano following the race at Phoenix.

"It's my understanding that there could be ways to have the tires lose pressure over a stint," Penske said Saturday at the IndyCar Series event at St. Petersburg. Obviously with softer tires, you are going to have better grip and better performance. I've told our guys 'Hey, let's stay out of this.'

Qatar Grand Prix Is 'Looking Up' Says Ecclestone
As the socialists run Europe into the ground, Ecclestone is moving F1 races where the money is in the world - east to the Middle East and Asia.
Bernie Ecclestone has revealed that a Grand Prix in the tiny Gulf state of Qatar is "looking up."

The plans to host the race were first revealed in Britain’s Independent newspaper last year but it soon came to light that the organizers of the rival Grands Prix in Abu Dhabi and Bahrain have a veto over it.

In December Mr. Ecclestone said "I have got a bit of problem which nobody knows about really but I’m sure they soon will. When I went to Bahrain I made a deal and they said ‘since we are going to be something new in this area, which we are, give us a guarantee that you will not put another race on in the Gulf.' I said 'yes'. Typical Ecclestone handshake deal with the Crown Prince.

AR1 St. Pete Event Summary (Update 4) UPDATE #4
Who will stand on the podium today in St. Pete?
A few bullet point notes before today's 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series opening race, the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
  • We posted the tire allocations for today's race. Fifteen drivers, including the top-12 on the grid are starting on 'reds'. Nine are starting on 'blacks', including each of the last 5 drivers on the grid.
  • Our math has the pit-road delta somewhere between 24 and 26 seconds.
  • We expect tire wear to be a major issue, particularly on 'reds.'
  • In part, due to the increased tire wear, we don't expect this to be a fuel-mileage race. St. Pete has historically been a three-stopper and teams are going to wear out their tires before bleeding their fuel tanks dry.

Carlin and Jones take Americans to school again in Indy Lights
This is the only view other drivers had of Ed Jones all weekend

The opening lap of the 45-lap Indy Lights 2nd race on the streets of St. Petersburg was exciting. At the start turn one looked like a an accident about to happen as the front of the pack was 3 wide, however, lap one was clean all the way through.

R.C. Enerson had a mechanical failure early on in the fourth lap and brought out the only yellow of the race.

Ed Jones held the lead from start to finish, but the real battles turned out to be for third and fourth between American Spencer Pigot and ex-F1 driver Max Chilton, and seventh and eighth place between Brabham and Serralles.

Ferrari Chairman Sergio Marchionne's statement after Malaysia Grand Prix
"My heartfelt gratitude to Maurizio Arrivabene and the men and women of the Scuderia. What we have seen today is the result of incredibly hard work in the last few months, work that has been carried out in silence and with humility which are the real sign of a great team. Congratulations to Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen for a fantastic race. I am really happy for all the fans who have been waiting so long for a day like this. Forza Ferrari."
