Heavy rains resulted in lower than expected attendance and huge losses

The two groups that organized and hosted an ill-fated IndyCar racing event in Avondale last year and later faced off against each other in New Orleans’ federal court have settled their differences.

U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown signed an order Tuesday dismissing the lawsuit that a local subsidiary of the company formerly known as Andretti Sports Marketing filed against the NOLA Motorsports Park racetrack; its owner, Laney Chouest; and an affiliated nonprofit.

Brown signed the order at the request of both sides, who earlier had notified the judge that they had “effected an amicable resolution of all claims at issue” in their dispute over the Indy Grand Prix of Louisiana race held in April 2015.

IndyCar Revs Its Engine
IndyCar is losing money, but things are looking up. TV ratings, the renovation of Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its next media deal–current broadcasting rights combined with Comcast's CMCSA +0.51% NBC Sports and Walt Disney's DIS +0.40% ABC only provide $10 million a year–could shift the open-wheel racing circuit into high gear. Check out Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Company, which owns the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, in the Forbes SportsMoney clip below.

IMSA Legend Won In Debut Of Racing At Long Beach
Back in 1975, street racing was a distant memory for American sports car fans.

An accident at the beginning of the second lap of the 1952 Grand Prix on the streets of the village of Watkins Glen, N.Y. effectively ended competition on public roads, leading to the building of permanent circuits at the Glen and other venues.

Promoter Chris Pook revived the idea in September, 1975, hosting a Formula 5000 race on the streets of Long Beach, California. Pook had high hopes for the venue, looking to promote a Formula One race there the following March.

James Henwood Jr.
James Henwood Jr.. The fairgrounds is home to the NHRA Motorsports Museum and Auto Club Raceway at Pomona and Barretts Sales and Racing
The chief executive of the Los Angeles County Fair Assn., who made more than $1 million in total compensation in 2014 even as the nonprofit organization reported steep financial losses, resigned Wednesday, saying he had “become a distraction” to its work.

James Henwood Jr., who led the association for two decades, will be replaced on an interim basis by former Cal Poly Pomona President J. Michael Ortiz, chairman of the fair organization's board of directors.

Henwood's departure follows a Los Angeles Times investigation that found that he and other executives received lucrative pay and benefit packages despite several years of red ink at the association. The organization stages the annual fair and operates a number of year-round enterprises at the taxpayer-owned fairgrounds in Pomona.

IndyCar drivers are expecting a physically demanding second round of the season, when the sport makes its highly anticipated return to the Phoenix International Raceway.

The 250-lap race will be the first around the oval since 2005, when the calendar consisted of mainly oval races with only three road courses all year.

The return of the Phoenix International Raceway to the calendar has been met with high anticipation with both fans and members of the paddock alike, with the majority of the drivers keen to make their mark on the 1.022-mile oval.

However, several drivers are expecting the 250-lap race to be a physically demanding affair, owing to the heat and high-speed nature of the oval.
