"With a significant reduction in IndyCar downforce for the new aero kit's short oval package, Firestone's Race Engineering team was tasked with the development of a tire with increased mechanical grip," said Cara Adams, Chief Engineer, Bridgestone Americas Motorsports. "Our team tested various constructions and compounds on the new car during the 2017 postseason. We developed a new, softer right side construction and we will also bring a new left side compound. This combination gives drivers more grip in the low downforce configuration."

Pure Michigan ends sponsorship of NASCAR races, NBCSN to blame?
With the August race on NBCSN, did its low TV ratings make race sponsorship a waste of money? NASCAR is now suffering the same fate as IndyCar. The longer you are on NBCSN the faster the sponsors walk
The August NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway will no longer be named after the state's tourism campaign.
Pure Michigan, a Travel Michigan campaign and arm of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, has paid to sponsor the MIS race since 2011. It cost $725,000 to sponsor the August 2017 Pure Michigan 400, MEDC Director of Public Relations Michelle Grinnell said.
Launched in 2006, Pure Michigan was still gaining brand recognition when the partnership with MIS began, said Dave Lorenz, vice president of Travel Michigan.
"We launched our sponsorship of the August race at a time when we were still primarily focused on growing awareness of the Pure Michigan brand," Lorenz said in an email. "Particularly among a demographic that was different from our broadcast advertising campaign audience of women age 25 to 54."

China has been stealing our intellectual property rights for years and forcing companies like GM to give away all their manufacturing secrets in order to sell cars in China. Trump is putting his foot down and fighting back. Previous weak Presidents allowed the USA to be stepped on and made out to be complete idiots
We support a positive trade relationship between the U.S. and China, and urge both countries to continue to engage in constructive dialogue and pursue sustainable trade policies.
We continue to believe both countries value a vibrant auto industry and understand the interdependence between the world’s two largest automotive markets.

IndyCar struggles to make current drivers household names (2nd Update)
Rossi and Daly on The Amazing race
UPDATE Another reader writes, Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Indycar has to matter before the drivers can. You need people to care about the racing before any driver can earn hero status. Viewership and good sponsors willing to commit themselves to the $ it takes to push the series via media and pr is where this starts. As far as driver exposure all that comes to mind is:
- Honda has gotten behind Indycar in the past and they are running ads with Hinchcliffe right now.
- Danica gets some play right now as well..... but is she really identified as an Indycar driver at this point? She is toast for any promo Indycar can do with her after May.
In commemoration of this year’s 70th anniversary of NASCAR, FOX Sports ranked the top-50 NASCAR drivers of all time this week on a special edition of FS1’s NASCAR RACE HUB. For Monday and Tuesday’s “NASCAR RACE HUB Top-50 Drivers” specials, 21 FOX NASCAR broadcasters and driver/crew chief analysts submitted their choices for the top-50 drivers, ranked in order from 1-50. The vote was inspired by the “50 Greatest Drivers” list NASCAR released in 1998, although that list did not rank the drivers in order of votes received.

SM Raceway is excited to welcome Clea Newman, daughter of the late Hollywood icon, philanthropist and racing enthusiast Paul Newman, as the grand marshal at Saturday’s Verizon IndyCar Series Desert Diamond West Valley Casino Phoenix Grand Prix.
This weekend is a celebration of Mario Andretti’s final career win, which came at ISM Raceway in a Newman/Haas Racing car. As part owner of the team, Paul Newman was very close to Andretti, who was the team’s first driver in 1983. Both had a strong passion for racing, which led them to capture the CART championship together in 1984. Andretti stayed with Newman/Haas Racing for 12 years until he retired in 1994, his longest stint with any team.

ISM Raceway announced today the dates for the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series schedule, where the series will return to the one-mile oval twice.
The NASCAR season at ISM Raceway kicks off with the TicketGuardian 500 race weekend on Sunday, March 10. Phoenix is once again a part of NASCAR’s West Coast Swing at the beginning of the season, along with Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Auto Club Speedway.
The Verizon IndyCar Series, Firestone and ISM Raceway will start the process of rubbering in a high line at the one-mile Phoenix oval on Wednesday reports RACER.
The process, which involves towing the Firestone tires around the circuit with a special sled that compresses the rubber into the track surface while slowly rotating the tires to avoid flat spots and punctures, could add enough grip to the outer lane for drivers to venture out in practice and see if the single-lane circuit has been expanded to two.

Following his return to Indy car after six seasons in Formula 1 and seven in NASCAR, Montoya not only won Indy in 2015, but also only lost the championship on a tiebreak with Scott Dixon.

When competitors electric cars start to bury the 911, Porsche will be forced to bite the dust. An electric motor is superior.
Porsche has big plans to electrify its vehicle portfolio in the years to come, but said plans will not include a purely electric 911. According to a report from Automotive News Europe published last Sunday, Oliver Blume, Porsche CEO, told reporters at the company's annual results conference that the 911 will never go all-electric. That's a bold statement, considering how quickly things change in the automotive industry.

Double amputee nabs podium finish on British F3 debut
Billy Monger stole the headlines at Oulton Park today, with a podium finish on his racing comeback, less than a year after losing both lower legs in a British F4 accident.
Starting fifth on the grid, he held his position off the line and then took advantage of trouble ahead of him on the first lap to climb to third, a position he held for the remainder of the race.
He said: “It’s a bit surreal but an awesome feeling, even just to be back racing. The first people I’ve got to thank are all the boys at Carlin for getting me back behind the wheel, especially Grahame 'Chily' Chilton, everyone who has supported me, people like Jonathan Palmer, family and friends and everyone that supported me after my accident, without that support I wouldn’t have been out on the grid today, so it’s great to be back.

AJ Foyt in 1961

Young Texan A.J. Foyt started to make waves in USAC competition in 1957 before making his Indianapolis 500 debut with a 16th-place result as a 23-year-old in 1958. Foyt finished 10th in 1959 and 25th in 1960 but entered the 1961 race as a favorite after winning the 1960 USAC National Championship.
Hinchcliffe's Honda Commercials Provide 'Dream' Exposure For Indycar
The Honda commercials are indeed great for IndyCar. Now what is Chevy doing to help IndyCar become a household name?
Verizon IndyCar Series driver James Hinchcliffe is no stranger to the media. In fact, he’s a good friend writes Mark Robinson of IndyCar.com.
In addition to his often-witty interviews at races, the Schmidt Peterson Motorsports pilot and five-time race winner has seen his popularity surge outside the racetrack with appearances on TV shows including “Dancing with the Stars” and “Celebrity Family Feud,” not to mention podcasts he has co-hosted in recent years that have amplified his humor, candor and in-depth knowledge on a multitude of trivial subjects.

Uber Reaches Settlement Over Fatal Autonomous Crash
NTSB investigators survey car
The first fatal crash involving a fully autonomous vehicle had the potential to become a landmark legal case but Reuters reports Uber has reached a settlement with the daughter of Elaine Herzberg.
The news comes exactly one week after the victim’s daughter retained the law firm of Bellah Perez PLLC. Details of the settlement were not announced but Cristina Perez Hesano, an attorney at the firm, said “the matter has been resolved” and they won’t have any further comment.
Uber’s decision to settle isn’t surprising as the company has been under intense scrutiny ever since the fatal accident occurred in Tempe, Arizona earlier this month. The company has also been hammered by bad publicity as crash footage showed the safety driver of the Volvo XC90 was looking down seconds before impact. A handful of experts also blamed Uber’s technology for failing to notice Herzberg and Arizona’s governor recently suspended the company’s autonomous testing program in the state indefinitely.
