GP2 Bahrain: Pierre Gasly tops Day 3 testing
Pierre Gasly
The final day of pre-season testing opened under clear blue skies and in hot temperatures at the Bahrain International Circuit. As the pitlane went green, the drivers fed onto the track eager to put their Soft Pirelli tires to good use as early as possible. Stoffel Vandoorne led the way, but it was Marco Sorensen who set the early pace until his laptime was bettered first by Mitch Evans, then Nathanael Berthon and Jordan King.

Raffaele Marciello was the first man to dip under 1m40s, the Italian driver going 0.069s faster than Pierre Gasly. During a busy session with lots of traffic, Vandoorne capitalized on a clear track to clock in a laptime of 1:39.646, but on the one hour mark, Gasly went top by 0.014s. Evans moved up to third ahead of Alexander Rossi.

WEC ditches grid girls
(Reuters) - The world endurance championship, whose annual highlight is the Le Mans 24 Hours sportscar classic, is getting rid of the 'grid girls'.

In a move that will be applauded by many, and is sure to dismay those accustomed to seeing scantily-clad beauties posing next to cars before a race, the FIA-backed series is adopting a more progressive stance.

"From Silverstone next week, you will see that for any race we will do -- no grid girls like in the past," WEC chief executive Gerard Neveu told Reuters after a presentation on Thursday for the opening Silverstone six-hour race.

"For me that is the past. The condition of women is a little bit different now," he said.

GP2 Bahrain: Nobuharu Matsushita quickest in Day 2 testing
The morning session on the second day of pre-season testing at the Bahrain International Circuit was delayed by one hour: a sandstorm hit the track the night before leaving sands in its wake. The circuit service and the teams were hard at work to clean the pitlane and the rest of the layout. At 10.00 local time, the session went live and Jordan King was the first man to feed onto the still dusty track, followed by Arthur Pic. During the opening hour, drivers mainly focused on pitstop practice and start procedures whilst Alexander Rossi set the pace.

Alex Lynn went quickest with one hour left on the clock, but his laptime was bettered first by King, and then by Pic. As the track improved, Rio Haryanto went top, but in the dying minutes, Sergey Sirotkin dipped under 1m42s. His laptime of 1:41.797 was enough for him to top the shortened session at the checkered flag ahead of King, Lynn, Haryanto, Pic, Stoffel Vandoorne, Nobuharu Matsushita, Julian Leal, Rene Binder and Rossi.

Joey Logano
With a little over a week before the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway, track officials held their annual media day.

As part of those festivities, driver Joey Logano took some time to answer questions on Penske, safer barriers, Jeff Gordon and more.

How good of a start has it been for Penske in IndyCar and NASCAR?

"Obviously it was a great start for the Indy Cars. Last week, all six of our cars in the top five in all the races run over the weekend was pretty special. For Team Penske to be able to do that is a big deal.

"We didn't quite get the win we wanted at Martinsville, but we were close, and that was something to be proud of. Hopefully we can continue that momentum throughout the season."

Texas Motor Speedway to place tire packs at five locations
Texas Motor Speedway will present additional safety devices when its racing season begins next week with a NASCAR doubleheader. Busch incurred a broken right leg and left foot and has not returned.

That includes spaces of 33 feet in Turn 1 and 29 feet in Turn 4. TMS immediately went to work implementing the suggestions, at its expense.

Montoya comes full circle at St. Petersburg
Juan Montoya
Juan Montoya
Foremost, Juan Pablo Montoya had to be honest with himself early in the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series season.

Qualifying 18th and finishing 15th in the season-opening Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg was an inauspicious start, and though he could easily have put the emphasis on acclimation to a new car and racetracks after a 14-year hiatus from Indy car racing, Montoya said he "had to grow as a driver."

"Last year was a tough year for us at the beginning. We knew that," said Montoya, who won the 1999 CART title and 2000 Indianapolis 500 before moving to Formula One and then on to stock car racing. "We knew it would be a process to get to where we needed to be. Normally I'm really good at remembering everything about every track and last year I think this was such a blur for me. I was so overwhelmed with everything that I didn't really pay too much attention to details.

DTM modifies DRS rules
To provide the motor-racing enthusiasts on site and the TV audience even more overtaking maneuvers and door-to-door battles, DTM has enhanced both the sporting and technical regulations for the 2015 season that will be kicked-off on the first weekend in May. All the innovations were introduced with just one goal: to provide the spectators even more attractive motor racing and perfect entertainment, with the safety level remaining as the extremely high as it used to be.

Several weeks ago it was decided that the DTM meetings will feature two races, in the future, with one being held on Saturday and the other on Sunday. Thanks to this new format, the spectators will witness twice as many races as before and in addition, there also will be qualifying sessions on both days, promising to be extremely intense and thrilling due to their duration of just 20 minutes. And further innovations make DTM even more spectator-friendly and clear than it used to be anyway.

Mercedes to push through developments for China
Mercedes has been holding back on new developments in case someone caught up to them.  Well Ferrari has so now Mercedes will respond.
Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has hinted that the team will speed up its development program, starting with pushing through a number of updates earlier than expected for the Chinese Grand Prix.

The move is in response to Ferrari's shock win in Malaysia, which saw Sebastian Vettel finish almost ten seconds ahead of second placed Lewis Hamilton who simply had no answer for the German's pace.

That put Vettel within three points of the championship lead and it seems to unsettled the Mercedes camp which, just two weeks earlier, dominated the Australian Grand Prix.

IndyCar: Racing In A Vacuum Is Not Sustainable
IndyCar drivers today are not legends like in Mario and AJ's era.
IndyCar, or INDYCAR as it wants to project itself, opened the 2015 Verizon IndyCar season with the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg with much fanfare, much of it of the self-congratulatory, back-patting variety, I might add. Be that as it may, this was going to be the new deal, an all-new beginning for IndyCar. New aero kits from Chevrolet and Honda would have racing enthusiasts returning to the fold in droves, happy that Indy-style racing was finally retuning to prominence.

Except that none of that happened.

IndyCar drivers respond to Aero Kit debris field
The bunny ears that stick up on the front wings of the Chevy kit car are easily broken off.
It was the Sunday before Easter and even then Team Penske IndyCar driver Will Power couldn’t help but see "Bunny Ears."

The defending Verizon IndyCar Series champion was racing around the demanding 14-turn, 1.8-mile street course in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg as the "Bunny Ears" kept getting in his path in a quite peculiar way.

The "Bunny Ears" are what Power calls a part of the Chevrolet Aero Kits that made their series debut in the season-opening race. Honda teams also debuted its new Aero Kit at the event, but Honda’s front wing looks more like a razor-blade cartridge than the Chevrolet "Bunny Ears" - an add-on part to the front wing.
