Alonso set for private Texas Motor Speedway test in April ahead of Indy 500 (2nd Update)

UPDATE As a reminder, Alonso's test at Texas is scheduled for next Monday, weather permitting. He will drive the #66 McLaren Chevy and McLaren personnel will run the test with some assistance from Carlin who helped prepare the car.
It marks the first outing for the Bob Fernley run McLaren IndyCar program partnered with Carlin Racing. It is also the Spaniard’s first go in the oval configuration of IndyCar's Universal Aero Kit, having driven the road course kit at Barber Motorsports Park last year.

The eighth annual “Roar in the Shore” fan festival in the Belmont Shore area will take place Wednesday, April 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. as a preview of the April 12-14 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach.
Free to the public, the event will be centered on Second Street, between Covina and Corona avenues. The Belmont Shore Business Association (BSBA) is presenting Roar in the Shore in partnership with the Grand Prix Association of Long Beach and Legends Restaurant & Sports Bar.

Gateway Motorsports Park officials today confirmed that its NTT IndyCar Series 500 and NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series 200 will take place on the same weekend in 2020. NASCAR released the 2020 Truck Series schedule earlier this week and announced the seventh annual Gateway Truck Series event will take place on Friday, August 21, 2020. The fourth annual Bommarito Automotive Group 500 presented by Axalta and Valvoline for the NTT IndyCar Series will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2020.
McLaren and Dell Technologies announce extension of partnership to Indy 500

McLaren Racing and Dell Technologies today announced an extension of their long-term partnership that will see the brands come together at this year’s Indianapolis 500 in May. The 103rd edition of the iconic race will see McLaren challenge for a fourth victory at the event with Fernando Alonso, who will seek to secure the Triple Crown of motorsport.
Dell Technologies, which became a multi-faceted technology partner to McLaren in February 2018, deploys critical race and business technology across McLaren Racing, McLaren Applied Technologies and the McLaren Shadow Project.
ISC Sees Q1 Revenue Rise, But Admissions Income Dips

It will be one to go at the line for NASCAR Hall of Fame driver and FOX NASCAR analyst Darrell Waltrip when he hits the air from Sonoma Raceway in June.
The three-time champion, a member of the original FOX NASCAR broadcast team that debuted at Daytona in February 2001, will retire from his FOX Sports duties at the conclusion of the network’s 2019 season. Waltrip’s final race calling MONSTER ENERGY NASCAR CUP SERIES action will be at Sonoma Raceway on Sunday, June 23 (3:00 PM ET on FS1).

Derani to drive Risi Ferrari at 24 Hours of LeMans

Risi Competizione has announced Sao Paolo native, Luis Felipe "Pipo" Derani, as a driver for the 87th annual 24 Hours of Le Mans race, June 15-16.
This will be the 25-year-old's fifth running at Le Mans, having competed every year since 2015, including a fifth-place finish last year in a GTE-Pro Ferrari 488 and a podium in 2017 in a GTE-Pro Ford. Additionally, in 2015 and 2016 he ran in the LMP2 class. This will be his first appearance with the Houston, Texas-based Risi Competizione Ferrari team.
NASCAR makes its first visit to Bristol Motor Speedway and “Thunder Valley” this weekend and it will do so with a new set of Goodyear tires in both Cup and Xfinity.
Compared to what was run at Bristol last year, this tire setup features construction updates on both sides of the car and a compound change on the left-side tire. This is the only track at which NASCAR teams are scheduled to run either of these two tire codes.

Fan festivals were held last year in Miami, Milan, Marseille and Shanghai, and the sport will be returning to the Chinese city as part of its build-up to the 1000th world championship race.
Chicago will host a festival in the build-up to the Canadian Grand Prix in June, and another one is planned in Los Angeles around the time of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, which this year takes place from November 1-3.

Volkswagen puts 'level-4' self-driving cars to the test on the streets of Hamburg

Volkswagen is testing prototype self-driving cars in Hamburg, Germany. The automaker claims these are the first tests of autonomous cars in a major German city. The tests will help ongoing research projects into autonomous driving, a VW press release said.
The test fleet consists of five modified Volkswagen e-Golf electric cars. Similar to test vehicles operated by the likes of Waymo, the e-Golfs are loaded with sensors that allow them to navigate city streets. Each car has 14 cameras, seven radar units, and 11 laser scanners, according to VW. Those sensors generate up to 5.0 gigabytes of data per minute, which is processed by computers in the trunk. The computing power of each car is equivalent to 15 laptops, Volkswagen said.
Ousted Nissan chief Carlos Ghosn has been arrested again in Japan, less than a month after he was released on bail.
Prosecutors accuse Ghosn of using Nissan funds for personal use. They allege that from 2015 to 2018, Ghosn sent payments to an overseas dealer "for the purpose of self-interest," according to a statement from the Tokyo prosecutor's office. Nissan lost about $5 million as a result, the statement said.
2020 schedules for Xfinity Series, Gander Trucks unveiled
NASCAR today announced the 2020 schedules for both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, and both include a return to race tracks that were part of the original schedule for each series – venues that have been absent from the respective slates for more than a decade.
For the first time since 2006 – and only the second time in the last 25 years – the Xfinity Series will race at Martinsville Speedway, and the stakes have never been higher. Expect tempers to flare, and emotions to boil over. With a final chance to lock up a spot in the Championship 4, Martinsville will serve as the final Playoff cutoff race in all three national series. The Gander Trucks will race at The Paperclip on Oct. 30 under the lights, with the Xfinity Series making its return on Oct. 31.

Race legend Mario Andretti will serve as Grand Marshal for the 10th anniversary Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, held April 5-7 in Birmingham. Mario Andretti is considered to be one of the greatest race car drivers in the history of the sport.
In its 10th year, the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, the only IndyCar race in the Deep South, is a signature event on the NTT IndyCar Series circuit. This year’s event will feature nine races over three days, including Lamborghini, Formula 3, Porsche, and the final race with the IndyCar cars on Sunday.
By moving to Friday night Aug 21, 2020 one can assume the truck race will be a support race to the Saturday night IndyCar race at Gateway in August 2020, but that has not been confirmed and perhaps IndyCar is moving their date
Gateway Motorsports Park – the home of NASCAR, INDYCAR and NHRA in the St. Louis-Metro East region – has held its NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series 200 in June since the sanctioning body returned to the challenging 1.25-mile oval in 2014.
NASCAR officials today released the 2020 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series schedule and the track, located in Madison, Illinois, has a new, later date: Friday, August 21. The GMP race now takes on added importance, since it will be the first race of the 2020 Chase for the Championship. The GMP race also is the finale for the NASCAR Triple Truck Challenge, which was announced earlier this year.

Mercedes-Benz marketed its BlueTEC diesel vehicles as “the world's cleanest and most advanced diesel,” but has been accused of equipping them with cheat devices that result in dangerously high levels of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, far exceeding what is legal under U.S. federal and state regulations. McLaren Racing and Huski Chocolate today announced an extension of their partnership that will see the brands come together at this year’s Indianapolis 500, where McLaren and driver Fernando Alonso will compete at the 103rd running of the historic sporting event.
Huski Chocolate was announced as a multi-year partner of the McLaren Formula 1 team in February 2019. This extension will see Huski Chocolate represented on the McLaren-Chevrolet and on Fernando’s racesuit, along with the McLaren team apparel at the Indy 500.

The race debut of the Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team is getting nearer by the day. Last week, the team passed yet another marker on the way to its first race in season six of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship. At Varano in Italy, Stoffel Vandoorne and Venturi driver Edoardo Mortara took the new Mercedes-Benz EQ Silver Arrow 01 out for its first sequence of runs last Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Edoardo Mortara was a member of the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport DTM squad in 2017 and 2018, and he still has links with the team. During the test drives at Varano, the Venturi driver stepped in for Gary Paffett who was in action at the Intercontinental GT Challenge at Laguna Seca.

ESPN Telecast of F1 Bahrain GP Has Largest U.S. TV Audience on Record

ESPN2’s live telecast of the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix on Sunday, March 31, attracted the largest U.S. television audience on record for the event, the second Formula 1 event of the season in as many races to do so.
An average of 711,000 viewers watched the telecast on ESPN2, up three percent over the average audience of 692,000 that watched the race last year on ESPN2 and up 72 percent from the 413,000 that watched CNBC’s telecast in 2017. The race began at 11:05 a.m. ET.
Santino Ferrucci is looking to bounce back from a disappointing result at COTA when he takes to the track aboard his #19 Dale Coyne Racing David Yurman car this weekend for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.
After starting from an NTT IndyCar Series career best of 11th, Ferrucci was having a strong run at the previous round at the Circuit of the Americas a couple of weeks ago when he was pushed off track onto an elevated curb. With his two front wheels leaving the pavement, he consequently suffered damage to the rear dampers of his Honda powered Indy car and what had looked like another possible top-10 finish ended up with the rookie taking the checkered flag in 20th.
Final Weekend TV Ratings The F1 race on ESPN2 gained almost 100,000 viewers but the rating stayed the same - 0.44 on ESPN2. The NASCAR Cup Race swapped channels with the Xfinity race, hence why the big change in attendance.
The Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center has announced that the Indiana State Fairgrounds one-mile dirt track will be converted from a dirt surface to an all-weather track made of crushed limestone to be utilized for year-round harness training and parking for the Indiana State Fair.
The ultimate impact is that the conversion of the surface means that auto racing events will no longer be held on the famed one-mile track following the 2019 Hoosier Hundred. The 64th running of the 100-mile, 100-lap race, scheduled for Thursday, May 23, will be the last running of this grand racing event at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

Max Verstappen nipped F2 driver Mick Schumacher in the rain-interrupted opening day of the Bahrain F1 test.
The 20-year-old Schumacher drew attention from the entire F1 paddock at Ferrari as he made his F1 test debut for the Italian team, emulating his father Michael who won five world titles with the Scuderia.

Haas’ Romain Grosjean topped a rain-disrupted opening morning of in-season Formula 1 testing in Bahrain as Mick Schumacher made his debut behind the wheel of Ferrari's SF90.
Grosjean set a time of 1:30.982 shortly before the first of two rain showers that left the circuit moist, coming off the back of early running that took place in dusty conditions after Monday’s sandstorm in the country.
Grosjean finished 0.106s clear of Toro Rosso’s Alexander Albon during the opening four hours of the test, which will run through 18:00 local time.
