James Hinchcliffe
James Hinchcliffe

James Hinchcliffe was the only driver to get down into the 1m08s bracket, but just barely at 1m08.999s and he was the only driver to go faster on the softer red Firestones leaving most scratching their head why the cars are slower this year and slower on the reds so far.

Hinchcliffe led 5 other Honda powered drivers as Honda drivers ran 1-2-3-4-5-6.

Friday morning update from Barber Motorsports Park
2018 Race Start in Rain
2018 Race Start in Rain

Good afternoon from the beautiful Barber Motorsports Park.   The IndyCars have just pulled in from the first practice session of the weekend.  Due to heavy rains last night, the rain tires were in use when the cars started the session.  But they were quickly changed to slicks.  It is 68 degrees under overcast skies.  I hear that rain is not in the forecast for the rest of the weekend.

The timing charts show Felix Rosenqvist, a rookie to IndyCar, driving the number 10 entry for Chip Ganassi Racing, at the top of the charts.  In the first practice session, the rookies all ran over 10 laps with the exception of Santino Ferrucci, who only ran 8 laps.  The rest of the field waited in their pit boxes, saving tires on this high grip track.

The 2019 Audi e-tron range is only so-so

The official EPA-rated range results are in for the 2019 Audi e-tron electric SUV—at least according to Audi, as they’re not yet posted by the federal agency—and they’re a fair amount lower than what was widely anticipated.

Audi of America said Thursday that the EPA rating for the 2019 e-tron will be just 204 miles. But it’s caging that announcement with some distinguishing factors that it sees as making this fully electric vehicle better in day-to-day use than vehicles with higher rated ranges.

Tim Cindric says to run a top team NASCAR costs 3 times as much as IndyCar. Of course NASCAR runs a lot more races
Tim Cindric says to run a top team NASCAR costs 3 times as much as IndyCar. Of course NASCAR runs a lot more races
NASCAR should follow the lead of the IndyCar Series in terms of slashing costs for its new-for-2021 Gen-7 platform, leading team boss Roger Penske told Charles Bradley of Motorsport.

Penske says the lessons learned by IndyCar in reducing its costs-per-car should be taken on board as NASCAR plans the extent of its new platform. Both he and fellow IndyCar team chief Chip Ganassi are believed to have lobbied for similar cost reductions in NASCAR during recent meetings over the scope of the Gen-7 car.
