Despite Red Bull pandering to Verstappen, rumor has it Mercedes aims to steal him
(GMM) Jacques Villeneuve has applauded the way Max Verstappen and his father took control of the Red Bull team.

But the always outspoken 1997 world champion also said that fact will make Pierre Gasly, Dutchman Verstappen's new teammate in 2019, struggle to get up to speed.

"Red Bull is built around Verstappen, so Gasly has no chance of beating Max this season," Villeneuve told the Dutch publication racingnews365.

"Gasly made little impression last year and was not consistent, but this year the pressure just seems too much for him.

Vandoorne’s fall from grace is a story well told, that he was pummeled by Alonso 21-0 in qualy last year was well publicized by the Spaniard and as expected at the end of the season 27-year-old Stoffel was out of F1. Promise unfulfilled through no fault of his own.

Final Weekend TV Ratings (Update)
The crowd gets smaller every year at Barber, a direct result of IndyCar being essentially invisible on NBCSN
Editor's Note: The crowd gets smaller every year at Barber, a direct result of IndyCar being essentially invisible on NBCSN - no one knows the series exists after 10 years on a station hardly anyone watches. Why weren't 100% of races put on network TV like NBC or ABC?

UPDATE We have the final numbers now and they are horrible. All the hype that IndyCar ratings would blossom now that NBC and NBCSN had all the races. That prediction turned out to be Fake News, but then if you watch MSNBC and NBC news you already know the majority of it is biased and fake.

NBCSN earned a 0.19 final rating and 296,000 viewers for Sunday's NTT IndyCar Series Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsport Park. The table below has been updated.

04/09/19 Editor's Note: NBCSN continues to make IndyCar irrelevant with its minuscule TV Ratings. All the hype that when NBC got 100% of the IndyCar races they would promote the series so much the ratings would rise. So far they are down every race. Meanwhile F1 on ESPN is up every race.

Nissan officially removes Ghosn from their Board

Carlos Ghosn still maintains he was framed
An expected but important shareholder vote on Monday finally removed embattled former Nissan and Renault executive Carlos Ghosn from Nissan's board of directors, reports the Associated Press. Ghosn was just arrested for a fourth time last week in Japan over allegations of financial misconduct from his time as head of Nissan.

Over 4,000 shareholders gathered at a Tokyo hotel for the vote, which was part of a three-hour-long shareholders' meeting. Nissan Chief Executive Hiroto Saikawa and other executives took the opportunity to bow deeply in apology to Nissan's shareholders ahead of the vote to remove Ghosn from the board.

Adrian Newey (R) has to fix his latest creation

Red Bull Racing chief technical officer Adrian Newey acknowledged that the team's RB15 chassis has not yet achieved its expected level of performance.

The Milton Keynes-based outfit's strong point has traditionally been its chassis design, thanks in large part to Newey's genius, while its main weakness in recent years has been its engine.

For this year, Red Bull has switched from Renault to Honda power, a choice that initially alarmed the team's fans when it was announced last summer but which has so far proven to be a productive move.

IndyCar needs to ensure international expansion sustainable

Mark Miles has been trying to add 1 or 2 overseas races to the IndyCar calendar in February. Our opinion: While Australia and Japan probably do not work logistically, adding Mexico City to the calendar is a no-brainer
IndyCar boss Mark Miles says that establishing races which can become a sustained tradition is a key focus in the series’ international ambitions.

Miles flew to Queensland for talks on a possible return to the Gold Coast in November last year, while Motegi has also been identified as another foreign track which could make a comeback on the calendar.

In February, however, the IndyCar CEO advised that he didn’t know if the Gold Coast would become part of the series again.

When asked about progress on international expansion, Miles suggested that there is still work to be done to ensure that any such addition to the series could be viable on an ongoing basis.

“We think we’re fundamentally a North American series, but that there aren’t a lot of choices for us to race in February in North America, especially in the States, and so I think that’s an attractive time when it might be possible to race outside North America,” he explained.
