Good morning from Long Beach (Update) UPDATE We looked more into the matter with Carlos Huertas being replaced by Rocky Moran, Jr. for this weekend's race. Huertas was on the entry list as early as this morning, and apparently the change was decided upon as late as last evening.

As you might expect with such matters, the team was relatively coy with details. And there was no indication as to what the future might hold with Huertas. However, we essentially gathered that a check did not clear, and that the change is a business matter.

Southern California-based fast food restaurant chain King Taco is on the side winglets of the #98 Bryan Herta Autosport entry this weekend driven by Gabby Chaves.

TODD PARROTT, INTERIM CREW CHIEF FOR THE NO. 31 CATERPILLAR CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media to discuss his challenge filling in as crew chief of the No. 31. Full Transcript:

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE LIKE?
“Well I’m sure I will have my challenges.  I have been here since December with RCR (Richard Childress Racing) as the XFINITY Series competition director. So working with all these guys with the Cup teams, the No. 3, the No. 31 and the No. 27 with Justin (Alexander), Gil (Martin) and Luke (Lambert) and all the engineers and everybody at RCR all the engineering department and all the aero department and that stuff.  I’m very familiar with what is going on here.  I have stayed over for some Sunday races.  Obviously bouncing back and forth, you guys know my history.  I have a lot of years in the Cup garage.  Hopefully, it shows the depth of RCR, while Luke is going through his deal here with the suspension and stuff.  We have a great bunch of guys.  The engineers, tire guy and everybody that is filling in for the guys back at home. So we just go out and do our job and make the best of it.”

MotoGP: Espargaro tops opening practice in Argentina
Marquez only 10th but he's not worried
Storm clouds were gathering above the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit for the first MotoGP Free Practice session, although the rain stayed away giving the riders a chance to re-acquaint themselves with the 4.8 km track in the dry.

Times were over three-seconds down on Marquez's pole lap from last year, as most Factory and Satellite riders used one set of tires throughout the session in an effort to clean up the track and lay down some rubber to improve the grip for later.

All's Not Quiet on Formula One's Clean-Engine Front
F1 threw out its signature 'screaming' engines and turned the sport into an expensive high-tech borefest won by engineers, not drivers
Since Formula One introduced its hybrid engines a year ago, perhaps the most compelling aspect of the series apart from the racing itself has been the unfolding of the sport's love-hate relationship with its new environmentally friendly technology.

The new 1.6-liter, hybrid turbo engines use a third less fuel than their V-8, 2.4-liter, normally aspirated predecessors and produce at least double the hybrid energy - as well as far less noise. But whether a team, engine provider or other interested party considers the project a success or a failure depends on the results on the track.

Bahrain GP: Ferrari 1-2 in 1st practice
Kimi Raikkonen
Ferrari Formula 1 teammates Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel took the top two positions in the opening track cleaning exercise for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

With track temperatures well over 50 degrees and the track dirty the Mercedes duo of Hamilton and Rosberg were just sandbagging, saving their car for when it matters and running heavy fuel loads for now. They ended up back in 15th and 16th but don't let that fool you.

Valteri Bottas was third for Williams with Mercedes power.

Jordan King
The eleventh season of the GP2 Series kicked off today at Bahrain International Circuit with rookie Jordan King setting the pace with a laptime of 1:42.441, a mere 0.01s seconds quicker than his teammate Alexander Rossi.

The trouble-free session opened in scorching temperatures of thirty-five degrees. The DAMS duo were the first to feed onto the track with the rest of the field in tow and on Medium Pirelli tires. Rossi set the early pace clocking in a laptime time 0.058s better than reigning GP3 Champion Alex Lynn’s in P2. Twelve minutes into the session, King lapped the Bahraini track one hundredth quicker than the American and until the end of the session, no one would better it.

IndyCar drivers arriving Thursday for Sunday's 41st edition of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach were genuinely giddy to see a familiar track, warm sun and clear skies.
