B. Force, Hagan, Anderson Lead Opening Qualifying at Houston
Matt Hagan powered to the Funny Car qualifying lead under the lights Friday evening at the 31st annual NHRA SpringNationals at Royal Purple Raceway.
Brittany Force (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) are also provisional qualifying leaders in their respective categories at the fifth of 24 events on the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.
Hagan sits atop the Funny Car category with a run of 3.913-seconds at 308.78 in his Pennzoil/Mopar Dodge Charger R/T, while Force leads the Top Fuel class with a run of 3.701 at 313.80 in her Monster Energy dragster posted during the second qualifying session. In Pro Stock, Anderson currently holds the top spot after resetting both ends of the track record with a pass of 6.492 at 213.00 in his Summit Racing Equipment Chevrolet Camaro during his first round of qualifying.

Andrea Iannone (Team Suzuki Ecstar) left his best till last at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas, as the ‘Maniac’ slammed in a 2:04.599 to depose the King of COTA Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team) from the top on Friday. The gap between the two was just 0.056, and Marquez also suffered a crash on Friday - rider ok. Behind the number 93, the Movistar Yamaha duo of Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi completed the top four, within another couple of tenths as it tightened up at the top.

Josef Newgarden loves Barber Motorsports Park. Last year's race winner turned the faster lap in practice Friday for the Honda GP of Alabama with a lap of 1m07.4345s - good enough to beat Spencer Pigot in the #21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevy.
Sebastien Bourdais and Will Power were 3rd and 4th, both on the harder black tires. They are the ones to watch for pole qualifying Saturday.
Marc Marquez set the fastest time in today’s FP1 session at the Red Bull Grand Prix of the Americas with his best lap of 2’05.530”. With riders reporting the track to be relatively dirty and lacking in grip following the recent work done in an effort to smooth the bumps, lap times were still quite far from the track records.
As drivers struggled for grip on the green undulating Barber Motorsports Park road course outside of Birmingham, Alabama, Will Power and his Penske crew hit the setup just right and easily topped opening practice for the Honda Grand Prix of Alabama.
Power's lap of 1m07.599s was 3/10ths faster than Penske teammate Josef Newgarden, the defending race champion.

Porsche works race driver Kevin Estre set a lap time in 6:56.4 minutes with the 520-hp GT3 RS (911 GT3 RS: combined fuel consumption 12.8 l/100 km; CO2 emissions 291 g/km). The Frenchman’s lap time was 24 seconds faster than the best time achieved with the previous GT3 RS model. Porsche development driver Lars Kern was sharing driving duties with Estre. Following the 918 Spyder and the 911 GT2 RS, the new GT3 RS is the third production Porsche sports car with a notarized lap time of less than seven minutes on the world’s most demanding race track, known as the ‘Green Hell’. As is customary for record drives, the time was measured around the 20.6-kilometer lap.

Scott Dixon will compete on NBC's 'American Ninja Warrior'
Though he has the most race wins of any active Verizon IndyCar Series driver, Scott Dixon has his eyes set on a new kind of victory in intense competition – being a bona fide “INDYCAR Ninja.”
Dixon, 37, will compete in the 10th season of NBC’s hit obstacle-course competition series “American Ninja Warrior,” which will film one of its city qualifier episodes in Indianapolis on April 29-30. The top 30 contestants from the first night of competition move on to the city finals round on the second night. From there, the top 15 proceed to the show’s national finals later this year in Las Vegas, where they face a stunning four-stage course modeled after the famed Mt. Midoriyama course in Japan. The winner will take home a grand prize of $1 million.

Michigan International Speedway and Consumers Energy have expanded their relationship in a multi-year agreement to include the entitlement sponsorship of the August Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race. The race on Aug. 12 will be called the Consumers Energy 400.
“Consumers Energy is proud to support a great family tradition for Michiganders who enjoy seeing NASCAR come to Michigan year after year at MIS," said Patti Poppe, President and CEO of Consumers Energy. "We look forward to powering this event and MIS, spurring economic growth for our hometowns."

24 Hours of Le Mans Will Be Broadcast on Velocity This Year

Velocity will be the new home for the world’s greatest endurance race as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the full FIA WEC ‘Super Season’ has shifted to the cable outlet for 2018 and 2019.
Live streaming for portions of the July 13-17 Le Mans event will be presented on the Motor Trend app, and the remainder of the dual-season WEC championship will be aired mostly though digital delivery. Velocity’s coverage of the FIA WEC starts next month when the Super Season launches at Spa in Belgium.
Corvette Confirms Fassler, Rockenfeller for 24H Le Mans
Corvette Racing has confirmed Marcel Fassler and Mike Rockenfeller as the two remaining drivers for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, retaining its lineup seen in the opening two races of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
