Steve Byrnes, 1959-2015 (Update) UPDATE Richard Petty comments after the passing of Steve Byrnes:
"Steve was a person who had a real passion for his job and that's what made him stand out as one the best at what he did. He was always humble too, and I never saw him treat anyone unfairly.  That's just how he did his job and lived his life. He always treated myself, our family and our race teams with great respect and I admired him for that. He will be missed by many and our families thoughts and prayers are with Karen, Bryson and the rest of his family."

Drivers question NASCAR's lengthy caution at end of Bristol race
Austin Dillon done in by NASCAR
Austin Dillon done in by NASCAR
On a day plagued by rain, Sunday's Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes and Stand Up To Cancer at Bristol Motor Speedway was slowed in the closing laps of the race by a lengthy caution and a brief red flag period. However, some drivers wished NASCAR had thrown the red flag right away, instead of logging laps under yellow.

When the final caution of the night flew on Lap 495, the field was slowed behind the pace car as track workers cleaned the incident involving Carl Edwards, Kurt Busch, Sam Hornish Jr., Paul Menard and Justin Allgaier. As the cars circled the track under caution, rain returned to the speedway and began to dampen the racing surface.

Beretta Wins Caution-Filled PWC Long Beach Round -
Olivier Beretta has won the fifth round of the Pirelli World Challenge season at Long Beach, but like at St. Petersburg, yellow flags, incidents and poor driving standards ruled the day in the 50-minute race.

Most of the race was run under yellow, following a series of incidents, track blockages and questionable moves.

Even Beretta’s race wasn’t entirely clean, with the climactic moment of the race occurring on one of the rare green flag laps.

Ricciardo to use his fourth 'lemon Renault' engine in Spain
Renault made Vettel look like a loser last year and it's doing the same to Ricciardo and Kvyat this year - breaking down on a regular basis.
Four races into the 2015 season and Daniel Ricciardo has already used three of his four allowed engines, meaning penalties for exceeding his allocation will likely happen sooner rather than later.

The Red Bull driver will use a fourth power unit at the Spanish Grand Prix in three weeks’ time after his latest unit blew up just before he crossed the finish line in Bahrain.

"It failed 200 meters before the line, but thankfully we had enough momentum to coast over the line," said team principal Christian Horner.

"That's three out of four now for Daniel now. He'll be on engine four in Barcelona."

But the German, who won his four world titles with Red Bull, thinks he could now stay in red for a long time.

Daly Impresses in Road Course Debut for Coyne
Conor Daly
LONG BEACH, Calif. – In a race that saw Dale Coyne Racing drivers Francesco Dracone and Conor Daly cross the finish line without incident, both had achievements for which they can be proud.  Daly was able to race in his first Verizon IndyCar Series street course race and Dracone completed his first race in the top American open wheel series without an early retirement.

Dracone made his third consecutive start for the team and Daly made his first.  The circumstances of Daly’s race were quite unexpected but gave him the platform to show his road racing skills.

The weekend started with Rocky Moran Jr. in the No. 18 Trench Shoring Honda, but a second practice session spin and slight contact with the wall injured his left thumb.  A Saturday morning x-ray revealed a fracture that ruled him out of any further racing for the weekend.  Coyne was left to make a driver change just a day after Moran was announced.

(GMM) Designer James Allison was a key to Kimi Raikkonen's 2014 resurgence, the Finnish driver's manager admits.

But the 35-year-old is returning to form this year, and on Sunday he ended a long podium drought in Bahrain and almost challenged Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes for victory.

Ferrari still not ready to sign Raikkonen extension
Kimi Raikkonen
(GMM) At least for now, Ferrari is leaving the door slightly ajar for Lewis Hamilton.

After declaring that Hamilton would make a great teammate for Sebastian Vettel next year, Bernie Ecclestone backtracked just ahead of the race in Bahrain.

"No," the F1 supremo told British television Sky. "He's happy where he is."

But Mercedes and Hamilton are yet to agree terms for a new contract beyond 2015, and rumors in Bahrain about a potential move to Ferrari were widespread.

Renault ready to spend to fix F1 crisis - Horner
Horner
(GMM) Christian Horner has acknowledged Renault is now getting serious about fixing its obvious problems in formula one.

Earlier, the Briton and other Red Bull officials were scathing of the French supplier's performance and reliability so far in 2015, and the problems did not appear to significantly lessen in Bahrain at the weekend.

Horner's highly critical tone, however, notably eased in the island Kingdom, although he did joke that the engine used by Daniel Ricciardo on Sunday would now be best suited for nothing more than a "coffee table".

Rio Haryanto from Indonesia
Rio Haryanto from Indonesia
Rio Haryanto claimed his long overdue maiden win with a mature drive in Bahrain, overtaking early in the race and then cruising off into the distance to win by 3 seconds from McLaren test driver Stoffel Vandoorne and Nathanael Berthon.

The win was set up at the start with an impressive getaway from seventh on the grid: poleman Julian Leal made a decent start while fellow front row starter Berthon stuttered, with Mitch Evans just failing to pass the Colombian into the first corner and Haryanto sweeping into P3 ahead of Andre Negrao, Robert Visoiu, Nobuharu Matsushita and Vandoorne.

Kenseth not considering retirement
Matt Kenseth
Matt Kenseth
Matt Kenseth is just a year younger than Jeff Gordon, who has already said he'll retire at the end of this season. The 43-year-old former champion won't use Gordon's exit as a reason to consider his own future in NASCAR.

He's got no plans to get out of the race car anytime soon and hopes his pole-winning run at Bristol Motor Speedway will lead to the end of a 51-race winless streak.

Asked if Gordon's decision has led him to ponder retirement, Kenseth said he hasn't given the subject any thought. "I feel as good as I did 10 years ago, and I'd like to say that I do as good or better job behind the wheel than I did then," said Kenseth, who starts first Sunday.
