Q) GIVEN THE NEWS THAT GODADDY IS GOING TO BE LEAVING, HOW DO YOU LIMIT THOSE DISTRACTIONS OF QUESTIONS ABOUT SPONSORS AND WORRYING ABOUT SPONSORS AS YOU CONTINUE TO GO THROUGH THE SEASON? DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE BEST POSSIBLE TIME FOR IT, GIVEN THE RUN OF SUCCESS THAT YOU'VE HAD IN THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS?

Carpenter eager to learn about aero kits
Ed Carpenter
Ed Carpenter
Ed Carpenter hasn't competed in the No. 20 Fuzzy's Vodka Chevrolet since the 2014 Verizon IndyCar Series finale on the 2-mile Auto Club Speedway oval, so pardon the CFH Racing co-owner/driver for his exuberance over a May 3 Promoter Test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

It will be the initial opportunity for teams to get acclimated with the new superspeedway aerodynamic bodywork packages designed, manufactured and supplied by Chevrolet and Honda. Carpenter joined Team Penske's Helio Castroneves in running the Chevrolet superspeedway kit on the 1.5-mile, high-banked Texas Motor Speedway oval March 10, but there is an Indy 500-only rear wing main plane of both manufacturer kits.

JGR names Erik Jones as No. 18 driver starting at Kansas; no date set for Kyle Busch's return
As expected, Erik Jones will make his official Sprint Cup debut in Kyle Busch's No. 18 Toyota starting with the May 9 race at Kansas Speedway. It's unclear, though, how long Jones will race in NASCAR's premier series as a fill-in driver.

A Thursday morning release from Joe Gibbs Racing didn't list a date for Busch’s return from injuries in the season-opening Xfinity Series race Feb. 21 at Daytona International Speedway. Busch suffered a broken right leg and fractured left foot after crashing into a concrete wall unprotected by a SAFER barrier.

Manor might opt to wait until 2016 for new car
Manor team principal John Booth says the team needs to analyze whether it would be better to wait until 2016 to introduce a new car.

The team has been running with a modified 2014 car so far this season - including last year’s Ferrari power unit - having only exited administration in February. The original plan was to build a 2015 car to be launched later in the year, when Manor could also install the new Ferrari engine. However, speaking exclusively to F1iBooth says there is still no firm date for when the car would be ready.

Q&A with IndyCar driver 'Buckshot'
James 'Buckshot' Jakes
James 'Buckshot' Jakes
After sitting out a season, James Jakes has returned to IndyCar and now drives for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. He finished third in the rain at NOLA Motorsports Park. The 27-year-old native of Leeds, England, talks about the business of racing, his NASCAR-ish new nickname and his appendix with Chris Jenkins, Special for USA TODAY Sports.

USA TODAY Sports: So how's your season so far?

Jakes: "Kind of mixed emotions, really. Obviously it was nice to be on a podium as early as the second race. Very happy to be with Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. But obviously all the Honda teams are still figuring out the new aero kit. It's taken a bit longer than expected. Chevy seem to have the edge right now, but I think as of the weekend, Honda seems to definitely be closing the gap. I think it was five out of the top 10 cars at the finish were Hondas (at Birmingham). I believe we would have been one of them, but we had a problem on pit road. The redhead (fuel nozzle) broke on the fuel rig, so that put us to the back after we had made some progress on the first stint. And then I got taken out. Although it's kind of been up and down so far, everything seems to be coming together, and we're very confident about the Indy GP."

Four teams penalized with loss of practice time at Talladega
Kevin Harvick's team is one of four NASCAR Sprint Cup teams that will lose 15 minutes of practice time this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR announced. Harvick's team, along with Matt DiBenedetto's team will be docked 15 minutes of practice time at Talladega after being late for pre-race inspection last weekend at Richmond. Aric Almirola's team also will lose 15 minutes of practice at Talladega after being late for qualifying inspection at Richmond.

Alex Bowman's team failed qualifying inspection more than three times at Richmond. The Tommy Baldwin Racing team received a written warning and will be docked 15 minutes of practice time at Talladega. NASCAR's rule book states that if a team receives two warnings during two consecutive events, it may result in one or more of the following P1 penalties - last choice in selecting pits, reduced practice time, reduced time for qualifying, delay in order of inspection and/or be selected for post-race inspection, among other things.

NASCAR also announced that the teams of #98-Josh Wise and #32-Joey Gase (Bobby Labonte will drive the #32 at Talladega) each failed qualifying inspection twice at Richmond and received written warnings. NBC Sports

Porsche 1-2 in practice 2 at Spa
The preparations for this weekend’s WEC 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps continued Thursday afternoon during the second 90-minute Free Practice session of the day. Heavy rain caused the teams to tread carefully around the 7km Spa track and consequently the lap times were lower than this morning’s wet session.

Porsche once again led the way; this time it was the no19 Porsche 919 Hybrid of Earl Bamber that set the fastest time with a 2m25.495, 8.8 seconds slower than this morning’s best time of 2m16.616 set by Marc Lieb in the no18 Porsche.

GT86 CS-R3 Deliveries postponed
Toyota GT86 CS-R3 rally car
The GT86 CS-R3 rally car will be delayed until October due to an unforeseen technical issue, TOYOTA Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has announced.

The rear-wheel-drive car was announced in November 2013 and delivery to the first customers was planned for May this year. However, despite an intensive test and development program, a delay has become unavoidable.

As a whole, the CS-R3 has performed very well during testing but selection of appropriate power steering has been a recurring difficulty. Due to the specific lay-out of the GT86, it has proved harder than expected to find a suitable power steering unit, which must be an off-the-shelf product according to FIA R3 regulations.
