Robby Gordon Wins Inaugural Mexican 1000 Pro Unlimited Class
Robby Gordon
Robby Gordon won the inaugural Pro Unlimited Class of the NORRA Mexican 1000 Wednesday in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico, but rather than a trophy it was his spectacular Gordini that had the driver excited at the end of the four-day 1,334-mile off-road rally.

Normally reserved for vintage off-road cars, trucks and buggies which race the Mexican 1000 to preserve the memory of the glory days of off-road racing, Gordon and NORRA teamed this year to provide an Ensenada to Cabo route for modern Pro Unlimited cars and trucks in the famed deserts of Baja. Gordon raced the second HST Gordini built specifically for the Dakar Rally, and the machine performed flawlessly each of the four days.

ARCA driver has surgery on both ankles after Talladega crash
ARCA driver Brad Smith underwent surgery for injuries to both ankles Friday night after a nasty accident during the International Motorsports Hall of Fame 200 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Late in Friday's race, as Austin Wayne Self's car spun out and skidded up the 2.66-mile trioval, Smith stayed in the gas to try and drive through. But he hit Self's car instead, resulting in an apparent stuck throttle that sent him careening toward an inside wall.

Tax breaks approved for Canadian Motor Speedway
The Niagara Regional Council has approved a series of tax breaks crucial for the proposed $400 million Canadian Motor Speedway in Fort Erie to advance.

The council approval, which had been anticipated, now makes the Jeff Gordon-designed race track — set for an 820-acre Bowen Road site in Fort Erie — eligible for Ontario-sanctioned incentives and development charge reductions. Under the terms of the Niagara Gateway Economic Zone and Center Community Improvement Plan, the track will receive tax breaks ranging between $1.4 million and $1.8 million annually for a 10-year period and a $1.5 million development charge reduction for the first phase of the project.

The incentives would apply only to the project's first phase, the three-quarter mile main speedway and two-mile road course along with some related facilities. Those equal about 43 percent of the complex's total footprint.

Indy: Honda appears in the game
Andretti thinks Honda cars will be OK at Indy
Speeds are up in preparation for this year's Indianapolis 500. So are Honda's hopes after Day 1 of practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Despite Chevrolet posting the fastest two lap times, Honda had four of the quickest nine Sunday and turned a 226-mph lap.

"Speed-wise, it seems we can play," said Marco Andretti, who ran 226.268 mph. "But it's a little false glimmer of hope because (the lap time) is whoever worked the draft the best.

"So, it's sort of irrelevant."

Incredible Race Action between Audi and Porsche at Spa
It's a race of engineers not drivers. Watch the Porsche make a run on the Audi until his technology boost runs out. No matter if the Porsche driver has more skill, technology racing isn't about driver skill.  WEC is not a sport, it is an engineering exercise done in front of computer screens, in this case the Audi engineers vs. the Porsche engineers.

Mann Posts Strong Showing in Indy After Long Layoff
Pippa Mann
Pippa Mann
Pippa Mann made her return to a Verizon IndyCar after nearly a year layoff and seemed to get up to speed without much reacclimation. Honda HPD’s introduction of their speedway aero kit this week was another hurdle the veteran British driver had to clear. She did so with impressive results and positive feedback from Team Owner Dale Coyne and from rest of the team.

Mann logged a total of 69 laps during opening day for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and, together with the Dale Coyne Racing engineering team, gathered a lot of valuable data that will be used throughout the month.

Montoya leads Chevy 1-2 on opening day at Indy
Juan Montoya

Opening Day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway was highlighted by a significant jump in speed in the on-track debut of superspeedway aero kits from Chevrolet and Honda. Twenty-one drivers surpassed last year's fastest lap of Opening Day as drivers turned more than 1,800 laps in preparation for this month's 99th Running of the Indianapolis 500 Mile Race.

"It's faster, for sure, no doubt about it. Speeds are going to be up," 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay said. "The difficult part for teams and drivers is balancing the clouded read you get from a big tow and new tires versus getting a read on the new car."

Talladega raceday quotes (Update) UPDATE BRAIN SCOTT, NO. 33 SHORE LODGE CHEVROLET SS – Experienced an engine issue on lap 18
WHAT HAPPENED?
"Unfortunately blew an engine, no warning.  The temperatures were fine. I blew it going into Turn 1.  I have to apologize to the other teams that we took out.  Of course the bad thing about Talladega is when something happens other cars are all around you, unfortunate short end to our day.  ECR engines and RCR everybody at the shop does a great job.  I’m sure they will bring it back and they will diagnosis it and they will fix the problem whatever it was.  But their horsepower, our engines everything has been great.  On the XFINITY side they ran flawlessly.  I hate it for our partners Shore Lodge, Whitetail, Albertsons, everybody to have a day ruined like that."

His winning margin of 5.576s was an indication of just how much he was in control of the race, as he even had time to salute the fans on his final lap before crossing the line to take the checkered flag.

Three Audi drivers on top
Mike Rockenfeller
Mike Rockenfeller
The second race of the season and the second pole position for Audi: In an extremely thrilling time chase on a drying track, three Audi drivers were the fastest at Hockenheim on Sunday: Mike Rockenfeller, Miguel Molina and Mattias Ekstrom

“My car was fantastic to drive right from the beginning. I knew that the last lap would be crucial, fortunately, it all worked out,” said Mike Rockenfeller (Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM/Audi Sport Team Phoenix) following a turbulent qualifying session that initially started on a wet track. But after just a few minutes, the racing line had dried off so much that all the drivers switched to slicks and the track became faster and faster.
