DTM fans will remember the second race of the 2018 DTM season for a long time to come. In the Sunday race at the Hockenheimring, winner Timo Glock (BMW) and the eventual third-placed Gary Paffett (Mercedes-AMG) battled for the lead for many laps and staged a fierce and extremely thrilling door-to-door duel with countless position changes until the end. After the finish, the two hugged each other, exhausted, but happy. Glock celebrated his fifth DTM career win, Paffett still had to concede defeat to Mike Rockenfeller (Audi) on the final lap and finished third.
Race 1: Paffett wins DTM season opener at Hockenheim
With an enthralling and spectacular opening race, the DTM got its new season underway at the Hockenheimring Baden-Wurttemberg. Eventually, the most experienced driver in the field emerged as the winner: after 36 laps, Gary Paffett was first across the finish line. The Mercedes-AMG driver won the first of this season’s 20 DTM races with a margin of 1.449 seconds from his fellow Mercedes-AMG driver Lucas Auer, who came second. Third place went to BMW driver Timo Glock. Classified ninth, defending champion Rene Rast was the best-placed Audi driver.

Porsche Teams Have Lost Faith In IMSA's Ability To Put On A Fair Race
The Germans are learning that only 'God (IMSA)' can make you a winner
If you tune into the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship race this weekend, you’ll notice only one Porsche 911 GT3 R in the GT Daytona class instead of the expected three. The Porsche GTD teams are fuming mad, including one owned by the founder of the series’ biggest sponsor.
It all started with the No. 22 WeatherTech car, owned by WeatherTech company founder David MacNeil and run by Alex Job Racing. However, as Alex Job told Racer, the No. 22 squad didn’t feel as if IMSA allowed their team to be competitive, so that car is quitting the season accordingly:

Red Bull demo on wet Vietnam streets. They don't take today's lame motors on these demos - they takes screaming V8s? Why? Because fans hate today's F1 engines.
Formula One may have completed its early season flyaway tour but Aston Martin Red Bull Racing visited South East Asia today, with the Live Demo Team putting on a show for tens of thousands in Ho Chi Minh City at a Heineken festival.
Speculation in recent weeks has strongly linked Vietnam with a potential spot on the F1 calendar in the near future and David Coulthard was at the wheel of the legendary RB7 for Formula One’s first live performance in Vietnam. The Scot did three runs through the 650m course, laid out on Nguyễn Cơ Thạch Street, splitting his efforts between daylight, twilight and a final run under floodlights in the early evening.
A heavy downpour ensured it would be a wet performance – but what the double championship-winning V8 lacked in tyre smoke it more than made up for with ear-splitting noise. While this was DC’s first time in the car for 18 months, the 13-times grand prix winner wasn’t holding back: the white-hot glowing brake discs and exhausts told that story.
The first images of the track layout for the Miami F1 race scheduled to start in October 2019, if approved by the city commission next Tuesday, were revealed Friday and it definitely is a rather simplistic layout by F1 standards
The 2.57-mile track passes around the American Airlines Arena and the pit and paddock area will be located adjacent to it.
From the start/finish, it runs down Biscayne Boulevard, before it loops around and returns on the same street. It then heads right towards a high-speed section along Port Boulevard, which crosses a fairly long and bumpy bridge.
2016 FIA World Endurance Driver’s Champion Neel Jani set the fastest time for Rebellion Racing with a 1m57.120s lap in No.1 Oreca-Gibson. The Swiss driver’s time was just under one second slower than fastest lap of the meeting so far set by Mike Conway yesterday. The no7 Toyota Gazoo Racing car finished the final 60-second practice session in second as Kamui Kobayashi laps on 1m57.939s.
Anheuser-Busch, which ordered 40 electric semi-trucks from Tesla last December, on Thursday upped its bet on a green fleet by placing a substantially larger order with a competitor.
The beer company said it plans to buy as many as 800 trucks from Nikola Motor Co. Where Tesla uses batteries in its powertrain technology, Phoenix-based Nikola uses hydrogen fuel cells. In both cases, the vehicles generate no tailpipe pollutants.
Former VW CEO Martin Winterkorn facing US charges in dieselgate scandal
A Michigan federal court has charged former Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn with defrauding the U.S. for his role in the VW diesel emissions scandal, according to a report from Reuters.
Winterkorn resigned in September 2015, shortly after the company admitted that Volkswagen's 2.0-liter turbodiesel 4-cylinders engine was intentionally and illegally fitted with a defeat device that allowed them to game emissions tests and illegally pollute up to 40 times more than allowed by federal law. It was later learned that VW Group's 3.0-liter V-6 diesel engines also had a similar device.
Equivalency formulas never work in racing. Rebellion Racing team manager Bart Hayden believes Toyota may now be "further down the road" than initially expected following several Equivalence of Technology changes and declarations in the weeks building up to the start of the FIA World Endurance Championship season.

Patrick: NASCAR cars 'way easier than an IndyCar to drive'
Danica Patrick now says stock cars are easier to drive
Following Wednesday’s practice session at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Danica Patrick made her opinion very clear when asked to compare driving a NASCAR stock car vs. an IndyCar.
“All the IndyCar fans out there might find this warm and fuzzy, but everyone would always ask me if I had a hard time driving those big old stock cars and if they were really physical, and I’m like (she snickers), ‘No, they are way easier than an IndyCar to drive.’”
Mike Conway set a 1m56.172 lap, over two seconds faster than the best time set in the morning session and 0.643s ahead of the n°8 Toyota in the second 90-minute practice session.
The best lap time for the LMP1 non-Hybrid entry was set by the N°.10 DragonSpeed car as Pietro Fittipaldi sets impressive 1m58.835s lap as he makes his WEC debut. However the best time of the day went to the n°3 Rebellion Racing R13 with a 1m58.392 in the morning session, compared to a 1m59.011 in the afternoon, which was good enough for 4thoverall in FP2.
Why Acura Only Sold Five NSXes in the US Last Month
Earlier this week, a Reddit user noted Acura only sold five NSXes in the US last month. It's not unusual to see low volumes with a $150,000-plus supercar, but five? That seemed far too low for our 2017 Performance Car of the Year. So, we reached out to an Acura spokesman to find out what was up.
The NSX's low US sales for April was the result of a confluence of a few things. First, Acura sold lots of NSXes at the end of 2017, as dealers cleared out showroom inventory used for marketing. Per auto-sales data aggregator Good Car Bad Car, the NSX had its second and third best US months in October and November 2017, with 87 and 83 sold, respectively. As a result, inventory for 2018 NSXes has been limited—a quick search on Cars.com reveals just nine on dealer lots at the time of writing.

Why IndyCar made a huge mistake with its new TV deal
Future IndyCar Cable Viewership
The article below should send shivers down the spine of IndyCar execs who signed the new TV deal. AR1.com has said for years that 100% of IndyCar races had to be on network TV. That did not happen as only 50% will be on network TV with NBC. ABC did not offer 100% either, but at least they offered 63%. With the cable sports channels losing subscribers across the board at an alarming rate, IndyCar will become increasingly invisible to sponsors and the public in general. The loss in potential sponsorship vs. if 100% of the races were on network TV will dwarf any savings IndyCar gains from keeping half the races on cable.
DANICA PATRICK, NO. 13 GO DADDY ED CARPENTER RACING CHEVROLET, met with members of the media at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the manufacturer test day on the 2.5-mile oval and discussed her first two days of driving the Chevrolet-powered car and memories of past Indy 500 efforts. Full transcript:
WHAT WAS IT LIKE THE FIRST FEW LAPS YESTERDAY? “Absolutely horrible. I felt very uncomfortable. I felt like all my workout efforts have not really been helpful because I could not turn the wheel it was so heavy. It’s much better today. The first couple laps today I got flat out so it’s much different today than it was yesterday.
