Bourdais takes Tracy over Matchett when it comes to IndyCar TV races
Tracy and Bourdais fight during the  Denver 2006 Champ Car race after they crashed each other out
When it comes to Indy car racing, driver Sebastien Bourdais is a big fan of Paul Tracy's TV announcing.

But he's far from crazy about Steve Matchett's.

Bourdais was in Toronto on Tuesday to help kick off the publicity for this year's Honda Indy Toronto, which will be held June 12-14 — a month earlier because of the Pan-Am Games. The native of Le Mans, France, has five podium finishes in Toronto, including victories in 2004 and last year.

While Bourdais and Toronto's Tracy, the "Thrill from West Hill" who retired from active participation in the open-wheel sport following the 2011 season, were bitter enemies while racing against each other, they have come to admire each other's abilities in the years since.

Spanish GP Expects To Draw Crowd Of 90,000 To 95,000 Despite Alonso's Struggles
The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which will host F1's Spanish Grand Prix from Friday through Sunday, is expecting to draw a crowd of 90,000 to 95,000 fans, according to Jaime Martín of MARCA.

The evolution "of the presence of fans at the track shows the effect" that Fernando Alonso has had, as the venue's biggest crowd was the 140,700 that turned out to see Alonso and Lewis Hamilton in '07, when they were both driving for McLaren. The following years showed that Spain's economic crisis "overcame fans' desire to see their local hero live." Now, though Alonso "has little chance to win, it is not altering fans' plans."

Mexican F1 Organizers Put On Cooking Demo Ahead Of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix
Organizers of the Mexican F1 Grand Prix will put on a cooking demonstration at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to promote the series' return to Mexico City later this year. Latin America's leading entertainment company and promoter of the Mexican race, CIE, has partnered with Mexican chef Ruben Boldo to bring a taste of Mexico to the Spanish metropolis. Chef Boldo, who owns a restaurant in Barcelona, will prepare Mexican dishes together with Sahara Force India drivers Sergio Perez and Nico Hulkenberg ahead of Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix at the track. The demonstration is restricted to members of the media and will take place at Force India's trackside hospitality complex at 4pm on Thursday. "The idea is to show what real Mexican cuisine is about, in a very original way," said Rodrigo Sanchez, marketing director of the Mexican F1 Grand Prix.

F1 Struggling To Tap Female Dollar
When Claire Williams was appointed vice-principal of the Williams F1 team, she hoped that her promotion "might open the door to an untapped market," according to Alan Baldwin of REUTERS. Women make up some 40% of the audience, making it "a good time to approach brands more interested in female consumers."

The response "was hardly deafening." Williams: "I said (to the Williams sponsorship people) 'Let's go out there, let's really go hard at female brands.' And not one of them (brands) was interested."

Racing needs NASCAR-IndyCar peace
Barber Motorsports Park
Barber Motorsports Park
As the month of May dawned, I found hope along Interstate 20 in central Alabama.

A convoy of RVs rumbled down the highway, headed to the Talladega Superspeedway for Sunday's Geico 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race. Many of them rolled past another racetrack, the sparkling Barber Motorsports Park, still in cleanup mode, having just hosted the Grand Prix of Alabama, the fourth race of the IndyCar season and the last before the series headed home to Indianapolis to begin the countdown to the Indianapolis 500.

McLaren reveals dark new F1 livery
(GMM)  McLaren has revealed a striking new 'graphite' livery ahead of the Spanish grand prix.

The British team confirmed on Tuesday that it is launching a new look for Barcelona and beyond.

Some believe the move was to distance McLaren from its chrome-themed, Mercedes-powered past, especially in light of the new works partnership with Honda.

But a McLaren spokesman said it is actually to adapt the car for day races as well as "the floodlights increasingly used in twilight and night races".

Jeep, Dodge wiring repairs being probed by NHTSA
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating the effectiveness of repairs after Fiat Chrysler recalled 661,888 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango models in the U.S. because of mirror light wiring that could lead to fires.

In July, FCA recalled the 2011-14 Grand Cherokees and Durangos because of electrical shorting in vanity lamp wiring that could lead to fires near the vehicles’ sun visors.

The visors are mounted to the roof through the headliner with three metal screws. The wiring could be pierced by a screw or otherwise electrically shorted during vehicle assembly or during headliner repairs. Most fires occurred while the vehicle was being driven, a NHTSA filing said.

Mercedes team ready to continue their dominance in Barcelona
Barcelona should be another cakewalk for Lewis Hamilton
Barcelona should be another cakewalk for Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton

Bahrain was a tough race so to come away with the win was a great feeling and it's amazing the start we've had this year. Next up it's Barcelona, which is a great place to start the European phase of the season. The weather is always good and the circuit is a real test of every aspect of the car, which is why we go testing there. It's a great city, too. The architecture is stunning and it's a young, vibrant place so I always enjoy the weekend. Racing there is tough - it's usually hot and the circuit is incredibly physical. But the support I have in Spain is growing every time we go and, having tasted success there for the first time last year, I want to do it in even better style this time.

NASCAR still considering 2016 rules package
Steve O'Donnell
Steve O'Donnell
NASCAR seems to be backing off on more changes to Sprint Cup Series cars next season. After scrapping plans to use a proposed 2016 rules package in the Sprint All-Star Race, NASCAR executive vice president Steve O'Donnell said Tuesday the sanctioning body might stick with 2015 regulations next year.

"I think we're still developing what the 2016 package could be," O'Donnell said. "It could very well be the 2015 package."

O'Donnell said the uncertainty was a major reason the series decided not to feature the rules in the All-Star event, which will take place May 16 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Havick feels Sprint Cup schedule is Stagnant
Steve O'Donnell
Steve O'Donnell
Despite Kevin Harvick's concerns about NASCAR's schedule becoming "stagnant," NASCAR executive vice president Steve O'Donnell said officials remain comfortable with the current calendar.

"We're happy with the schedule we have," O'Donnell said Tuesday. "We certainly look at what's available to us, but the schedule we have in place, I think the tracks are doing a tremendous job of helping to promote the sport. We certainly have dialogue with Kevin and everyone's got an opinion on the schedule."

O'Donnell said there were "so many factors" including weather and a track's position on the schedule, that made officials "comfortable" with the current calendar. USA Today

Briatore, de la Rosa, di Montezemolo - F1 'no longer real racing'
Flavio Briatore - F1 no longer real racing
One by one the F1 paddock is starting to agree with AutoRacing1.com's article The Fundamental problem with F1 and IndyCar today where we argue that the top level of open wheel racing today is an exercise in engineering talent, not driver talent. They have gone too far with the technology - the turbo V6 engines are quiet, slow and downright boring.

Flavio Briatore, who for two decades presided over often title-winning success on the pitwall, says he is now only an occasional viewer of grands prix.

"On Sunday I watched the (Bahrain) race for ten minutes and then did something else," the Italian told Rai radio earlier this week.

"They spend (EUR) 300 million but then have to restrict their drivers in the races."
