Simona de Silvestro's IndyCar catches fire (Update) UPDATE Simona said after the fire, "It's definitely unfortunate because the car is pretty burnt down, and it's really frustrating that it seems like fire follows me. Maybe this time is 'third time's the charm,' and hopefully the team can get the car back together as quickly as possible. Until now, everything was working fine, and it's just annoying because it's a pretty big setback for us, but I have four great teammates and that will make it easier for us to continue moving forward."

Rosberg's Mercedes miles ahead in Barcelona Test after Day 1
Nico Rosberg (There is Mercedes, then there is the rest)
Today was a great test day for sure. The track was a little bit quicker than over the race weekend and we did many laps, so I'm a bit tired! But it's my only test during the season so it's important. Today, we tested a lot of different things - some more generally for the rest of the season and some for the next race. Monaco has very unique setup characteristics so we evaluated a few of those. The last sector here has a lot of tight corners - so it's like Monaco in a way, which is useful. The car felt very good there so I'm feeling optimistic and ready for the next race. It's in my home town, it's a legendary circuit and it should be a good weekend so I'm really looking forward to it.

Miller: IndyCar needs standing starts
Robin Miller writes on racer.com - The fans, on the other hand, are owed a chance to watch an exciting, fair, professional start at every race.

Long Beach was the biggest joke in recent memory and begs for a standing start – just like it had without incident in 2013 and 2014.

Indianapolis also needs a standing start for a couple of reasons. As Juan Montoya so eloquently stated, what do you expect when 25 cars going 190mph funnel into a first-gear corner?

48 overhdTagliani joins Foyt team for Indy 500 in Gurney tribute car

Indy 500 Day 2 Notebook
IMS Track Turnaround a Herculean Effort

As soon as the Angie's List Grand Prix of Indianapolis was complete Saturday evening, a Herculean effort to convert the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for oval track use began. Verizon IndyCar Series teams relocated their pits for Indianapolis 500 practice while Will Power was still conducting post-race interviews from the grand prix. As soon as fans finished their "track invasion" grid walk, IMS crews began removing nearly two miles of green Angie's List adhesive signage adorning track walls, which was followed by painting those sections of the walls a crisp new white.

The wall and fence crews started Sunday morning, removing fence panels and track fencing before they could focus on moving and resetting more than two million pounds of concrete wall and barriers - 16,000 pounds (eight tons) at a time. A fleet of equipment was involved, including a 100-ton crane, 70-ton crane, half-dozen fork trucks, pickups, trailers, four-wheelers, utility vehicles and more. Much of the work was centered on closing off the inside of the Turns 2 and 4 ovals, areas where the road course ventured off the oval.

Injured spectator sues IndyCar, Grand Prix
The spectator injured at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg has sued the race, its governing body and a fence company alleging their negligence led to her being struck in the head by a piece of debris.

The 16-page suit - filed by attorneys Justin C. Johnson and Christopher M. Rotunda - seeks damages in excess of $15,000 from the IndyCar Series, race owner/operator Green Savoree and Smith Fence Company.

According to the suit, Pinellas County resident Brigitte Hoffstetter and her husband, Gregory, attended the March 29 race. Hoffstetter was in the concession area about 100 yards from the track when a piece of debris flew from one of the cars. It soared over the fence and struck her in the head, resulting in a depressed skull fracture.

Vintage cars join IndyCar at Pocono
SVRA returns to Pocono in a big way in 2015, with an exciting event format for racers and race fans alike. SVRA has moved the event date back a week, and the Vintage Festival will now be a part of IndyCar weekend. The road course configuration that has been selected for this event is the 1.37-mile Southeast Track. This track is located inside the tri-oval circuit and is highly technical, with 16 corners, elevation changes, blind corners and a 2,120-foot straight. This circuit was part of Pocono's major refurbishing and is 45 feet wide with fresh, smooth pavement. Since this track option does not use the tri-oval, it is ideal for all varieties of race cars. Pocono's size and multiple track configurations allow many activities to take place concurrently.

This event will include the full complement of SVRA sprint and enduro races on the road course. SVRA is also pleased to host the 40th annual Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) Convention. In addition, SVRA invites vintage and historic oval racing cars to run multiple exhibition sessions throughout the weekend on 'The Tricky Triangle,' Pocono's tri-oval track. Historic Indy Cars, Champ Cars, Sprint Cars, Stock Cars and Modifieds are invited showcase their great racing history on track, each day. For additional information contact Pam Shatraw, 650-799-0826, pam@svra.com.

Disappointed with Grand Prix of Indy
A reader writes, Dear AR1.com, The victory lane celebration for the Grand Prix of Indy was depressing. No fans where hanging out and just a few crew members. It was actually quite embarrassing. IndyCar is trying to pass the series off as important to Motorsports. What I saw was a joke. Boring to watch too. I don't know how Roger Penske keeps a straight face when being interviewed about the race. The view I had sucked and basically could only see cars for 5% of the track.
