IndyCar will not change cars for race
The Penske Chevy drivers are happy with the car. They are fastest and if no one can pass them at the front they are quite happy with the situation
The Penske Chevy drivers are happy with the car. They are fastest and if no one can pass them at the front they are quite happy with the situation

Despite some drivers expressing worries over the difficulty of passing with the 2018 aerokit in superspeedway trim, Jay Frye, IndyCar’s president of competition, has confirmed the governing body won’t be adding ‘last-minute’ downforce for the race.

Several drivers have been pointing out that while the front two in a convoy of cars can pass, further down the line it gets increasingly difficult to pull off a maneuver around the car in front. The 2018 spec Dallara aerokit has less downforce than the manufacturer aerokits but more drag. Team owner Dale Coyne described the aero effect to Motorsport.com as being “more intense, but narrower, so you tow up real fast - faster than with the last car - but when you move out to pass, you just don’t pull past at a great rate. The passes you have seen are coming at the end of the straights, where you come up the inside and just steal the line of the guy on the outside.”

The prestigious Louis Schwitzer Award was awarded Friday to four men instrumental in the design and development of the INDYCAR universal aero kit that has generated so many positive reviews in its debut this season. IndyCar GP Popularity continues to plummet
IndyCar GP popularity
IndyCar GP popularity
ABC aired the fifth IndyCar Grand Prix on Saturday afternoon, drawing 780,000 viewers. That figure is the lowest yet for the road race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and down 37% from 1.24 million viewers for the first iteration in ’14.

Is IndyCar growing? So far just about all the TV ratings for 2018 are down from 2017. And to think the season finale could be a 400-miler on the IMS oval with huge attendance and huge TV ratings. But that makes so much sense IndyCar will never do it. They prefer to run the IndyCar GP on the road course and their season finale be at Sonoma with small attendance so the series looks as bad as possible to anyone watching.....including potential sponsors.

F1 development driver Santino Ferrucci gets IndyCar debut in Detroit
Santino Ferrucci getting Dale Coyne Seat Fitting
F2 driver and Haas F1 development driver Santino Ferrucci getting Dale Coyne Seat Fitting

Dale Coyne Racing and Paysafe are pleased to announce that 19 year old American racer Santino Ferrucci will be making his Verizon IndyCar Series debut with the team in June as he takes over the wheel of the #19 Paysafe car for the Dual in Detroit doubleheader weekend at The Raceway at Belle Isle Park June 2 and 3.

Due to the injuries suffered by Pietro Fittipaldi in a World Endurance Championship event earlier in May, the Dale Coyne Racing team has had to do some reshuffling of its driver line up and have turned to the 19-year-old American from Connecticut to fill the seat for the race weekend in Detroit.

Ferrucci currently competes in the FIA Formula 2 Championship in Europe, the primary feeder series for young drivers looking to make it into the Formula 1 World Championship. Additionally, after making a name for himself on the karting scene, and winning numerous races in the junior series, Ferrucci was signed as a development driver by the Haas F1 Team in 2016 and has since completed four test days and 1,180 miles at the wheel of the Haas F1 car.

Persistent rain showers at Charlotte Motor Speedway forced NASCAR officials to cancel Friday's qualifying session for Saturday's Monster Energy Open and will set the starting lineup by owners points, putting Aric Almirola and Erik Jones on the front row for the 50-lap preliminary event that will proceed the Monster Energy NASCAR All Star Race.

Saturday's race will feature three stage segments - 20 laps, 20 laps and a final 10-lap shootout - with the winner of each segment advancing to the field for the All Star race.

Almirola has one All Star start under his belt in the 2015 event, starting eighth and finishing 14th. His best finish in the Open event was fifth back in 2014.

The Penskes have not run many laps but are 1-2-3. Can they sweep the front row?

With the cars now running at qualifying boost, the Hondas of Marco Andretti (231.802mph) and Robert Wickens (231.732 mph) are first and 2nd on the timesheets so far with Ed Carpenter's Chevy in third.

However, all those times were with a tow, but without a tow is what counts when it comes to predicting pole speeds and so far the Chevys are beating the Hondas with the Penske Chevys running 1-2-3.

However, is everyone showing their hand yet?
