Antron Brown Set To Test NASCAR Stock Car
Antron Brown
Rainier Ehrhardt Getty Images
2012 NHRA Top Fuel Champion Antron Brown will test his skill at driving in a direction other than a straight line when he slides behind the wheel of a NASCAR stock car for a testing session next Tuesday.

In partnership with Toyota and Rev Racing, Brown announced Thursday at Charlotte Motor Speedway he will test a NASCAR K&N Series Toyota Camry at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va. along with NASCAR Drive for Diversity drivers Bryan Ortiz, Daniel Suarez, Mackena Bell and Ryan Gifford.

"I know I can go straight," said Brown. "Now I gotta see if I can throw a left-hand turn in there. You know, I drive for four seconds at a time right now. So this is a lot different. I know there is a big learning curve. We are just trying to take that step to see if I can do it."

Brown said he has no plans to move over to NASCAR beyond participating in the test, but would love the opportunity to compete in a NASCAR race.

"It will be great to actually race in a race one time," said Brown. "We're going to take it one step at a time and after this weekend here we can grow from it when we go testing in Virginia. We're going to shoot for that first and then we'll take it one step at a time." Pete McCole

Pirelli threatens to pull out of Formula 1 over 2014 contract  Pirelli has warned teams that it will pull out of Formula 1 at the end of the year unless it gets an answer soon on whether they want a fresh contract from 2014.

Talks between the Italian tyre manufacturer and the teams about a new deal have stalled in recent weeks, and Pirelli says time is running out on it being able to produce tyres in time to be fully ready for the new 2014 regulations.

Paul Hembery, Pirelli's motorsport director, said in Monaco on Thursday that F1 was facing an 'extremely serious' situation, and that if the matter was not resolved very quickly then his company would find it impossible to make new tyres in time. More ...

Rosberg on course for Monaco win - Wurz
Nico Rosberg focused
(GMM)  Mercedes is right on course for victory in Monaco this weekend.

That is the view of Alex Wurz, who agrees with many paddock voices who have singled out the silver-clad team as the favorites in the Principality.

Nico Rosberg was fastest in both practice sessions on Thursday, while his teammate Lewis Hamilton was second best in the afternoon.

"In the past few years Nico was always very good here," Austrian Wurz told German broadcaster Sky on Thursday.

"Lewis too, but he has made a few mistakes.

"But I think with Rosberg and Hamilton maybe they (Mercedes) even have the best Monaco drivers.

"Then they have the best qualifying car, and a circuit that is not so hard on the rear tires, which is good news for Mercedes.

"It's exciting.  Maybe they can win the race," added former Benetton and Williams driver Wurz, 39.

Sam Bird sets the pace in Monte Carlo
Sam Bird
Sam Bird set the tone in this morning’s free practice in the streets of Monaco: the Brit’ from RUSSIAN TIME clocked a lap time of 1:21.512 in a trouble free session, five hundredths quicker than teammate Tom Dillmann. Rookie Mitch Evans finished third.

Under clear blue skies, the pitlane opened and the twenty-six cars fed onto the track on Soft Pirelli tires. Evans set the early pace, but it was Bird who was on a mission and topped the timing sheets in the first ten minutes of the session with a lap time of 1:23.402. Marcus Ericsson improved the Brit’s time by four tenths, but Dillmann put his head down and found the extra pace to break under the 1m23s barrier and bettered the DAMS’ man’s time by six tenths. NASCAR All-Star Race Marketing Not Helping Matter Of Failing All-Star race  Promotion. In most forms, realms or types – whether it be sports, or movies or products – is almost always laced in some way with exaggeration. And for the most part, consumers are willing to understand and live with that fact. Then there comes a time when exaggeration crosses the line into full blown fairy tale fallacy, when promotion doesn’t in any way fit with reality.

Despite another new try with another confusing format, Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Showdown turned out to be another in a long line of less than dramatic or exciting All-Star events.

GP2 Monaco Preview  If there is one track on the calendar that every single driver dreams about, it is the twisty and challenging circuit in the prestigious and narrow streets of Monte Carlo. The fourth round of the 2013 GP2 Series will take place in Monaco this week, the home land of leader Stefano Coletti. The Monegasque driver will be seeking a third win this season and to continue his streak of point scoring in each and every single race this year.

Hot on his trail, Felipe Nasr - who has also scored in every event so far - will be on the hunt for glory as well: the talented Brazilian whose climbed to second place in the standings has shown consistency, speed and maturity, enough to be one to watch this weekend along with the likes of this season’s race winners Fabio Leimer, Robin Frijns and Sam Bird. Monte Carlo could also be the redeeming place for last year’s best rookie James Calado whose 2013 season has not been what the talented Brit’ expected so far, but it could also see Jolyon Palmer claim another GP2 win as he brilliantly did in 2012. Ferrari has quite a history at Monaco
Fernando Alonso at Monaco in 2012
It’s been many, too many years since the roulette wheel has stopped on Red in Monte Carlo. The last time a Ferrari won the Monaco Grand Prix was back in 2001, when Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello secured an amazing one-two. Since then, no Ferrari has been first past the checkered flag, even in those years when Maranello’s technical superiority seemed beyond doubt, such as 2002 and 2004.

However, there have been plenty of podium finishes in the past eleven years, with two second places and six thirds, but very often, something happened over the course of the weekend to see the chances of victory evaporate. For example, how can one forget Fernando Alonso’s accident in Saturday morning’s free practice in 2010? More ...
