Indy 500 start time unlikely to move up
Doug Boles would prefer to see everyone's day ruined, than move the start time up
Doug Boles would prefer to see everyone's day ruined, than move the start time up
Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said it’s “very unlikely” the starting time for Sunday’s Indianapolis 500 would be moved up because of the threat of rain.

The race is schedule to begin at 12:45 p.m. Eastern time, about 20 minutes later than last year. Boles was asked about an earlier start to get the race in ahead of possible rain. The Masters golf tournament took that dramatic step for the final round earlier this year.

Boles says such a move is unlikely. He also says the latest the race could start would probably be 6 p.m. because sunset is at 9:02 p.m.. The track does not have lights.

Tesla upgraded autonomous vehicle package inferior to a human
Musk has turned Tesla into a dumpster fire - burning through cash and headed for bankruptcy
Musk has turned Tesla into a dumpster fire - burning through cash and headed for bankruptcy
By Keith Barry, consumer reports - May 22, 2019

Tesla's updated Navigate on Autopilot software now lets some drivers choose whether or not the car can automatically change lanes without the driver's input. The automaker says the change is an attempt to make driving “more seamless.” But Consumer Reports observed the opposite in its own tests, finding it doesn’t work very well and could create potential safety risks for drivers.

Tesla added the lane-changing update to its existing Navigate on Autopilot feature last month as part of a promised upgrade to the package of driver assist features. We first reviewed Navigate on Autopilot in November and found it technologically impressive, but we also raised concerns about its performance in heavy traffic.

Q&A with Indy Lights rookie Jarett Andretti
Jarett Andretti
Jarett Andretti
THE MODERATOR: We're joined by Jarett Andretti, driver of the No. 18 Window World car in the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires. Can you express how you feel about driving at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway?

JARETT ANDRETTI: Yeah, I mean, it's always a little bit different feeling when you're rolling into here as a driver as opposed to your dad driving or as a fan or doing a press conference like we did one year or I believe two years ago, so this is always something -- it's a little bit more special. Unfortunately the weather hasn't been cooperating that well, but hopefully we get some better weather here, clearing up here soon, and it's really hard to put into words what it means. But just taking at the glance at the pagoda my second or third time around will be something I won't forget.

Hamilton and Bottas cannot be beaten, their car is so superior

Hamilton and Bottas turned nearly identical times, separated by only 0.081s, which is expected when the car design is 99% of the equation in F1 and the driver barely even 1%.

With rain in the forecast, Doug Boles knows a sellout won't be possible
Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles said that he was expecting 300,000 fans for Sunday's Indy 500, "not a sellout," meaning the local TV blackout likely will remain in place.

The blackout was lifted in '16 for the "first time in 65 years, thanks to a sold-out crowd of 350,000 for the 100th running of the race."

Boles said, "I’d love to have a sellout like we did in 2016. Yeah, then we could talk about (lifting the blackout) again."

Live radio coverage of the race will be on SiriusXM and ESPN Radio 1070 Indianapolis. INDYSTAR.com

Nicholas Latifi was the coolest out on track in Monaco, as he led the way in this morning’s FIA Formula 2 Free Practice, with a time of 1:21.887. Title rivals Nyck De Vries and Luca Ghiotto came closest to the Canadian driver, but the ART and UNI-Virtuosi men had to settle for second and third.

DAMS duo Latifi and Sergio Sette Camara were amongst the first out onto the streets of Monte-Carlo and it was the Brazilian who set the early pace, with 1:27.446. Not to be outshone by his teammate, Latifi quickly lapped quicker and set 1:24.648.
