Sunday will mark ABC's final broadcast of the Indianapolis 500, as IndyCar's three-year deal with NBC will begin in '19, ending one of the "longest relationships between a television network and a sporting event," according to Keith Groller of the Allentown MORNING CALL.

ABC has been "televising the Indy 500 on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, either live or on tape delay," since '65.

The highly anticipated documentary on four-time Verizon IndyCar Series champion Scott Dixon, "Born Racer," scheduled for release later this year, unveiled its teaser trailer today at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ahead of the 102nd Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil.

"Born Racer" is the powerful and inspirational story of dedication, danger, fear and the rare will to defy all personal limitations that Dixon has demonstrated in his successful Indy car career. The 2008 Indianapolis 500 champion ranks fourth in all-time Indy car victories with 41 - one behind third-place Michael Andretti. The 37-year-old New Zealander will start Sunday's Indy 500 from the outside of Row 3.

Sebastien Bourdais gave Honda 3 cars in the top-4 while Charlie Kimball rounded out the top-5.

Sunday's forecast for the Indianapolis 500 calls for a high temperature of 92 degrees Fahrenheit, just two short of the "record for the warmest high temperature on race day" set in 1937.

The '12 and 1953 race days each had a high of 91 degrees, and the high has "reached 90 degrees or more just six times in the race's history." 

The "average high since the race began in 1911 is 77.4 degrees, and the average temperature is 67.3 degrees." Rain "shouldn't be a factor" for this year's edition

Carb Day is the final practice hour for the Indy 500 field and the pit stop competition.  Historically this day gave the 33 drivers the opportunity to practice and make adjustments to their carburetors. Even after the introduction of fuel injection, in the late 1940s, the original term carburetion runs continued to be used.  The lotus cars of Jim Clark and Dan Gurney were the last to actually use carburetors in 1963.

Dalton Kellett has developed quite an affinity for the ovals, and especially the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After finishing third in each of his two previous starts in the biggest event of the year for Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires, the Indianapolis-based Canadian this afternoon secured his first-ever Mazda Road to Indy pole position when he posted the fastest two-lap average of 195.027 mph for Andretti Autosport during qualifying for tomorrow’s Freedom 100.
