Be Mario Andretti, or at least look like him
Mario Andretti 1969 Indy 500
Mario Andretti 1969 Indy 500
This may be the best - and most expensive - Halloween costume you ever buy.

Racing legend Mario Andretti won a lot of races during his career. He won them in IndyCars, Formula One cars, even stock cars. He's won both the Indianapolis 500 and the Daytona 500. And now, maybe the biggest piece of memorabilia from his lone Indy 500 win that's not sitting in a museum is up for auction.

You can own Mario Andretti's 1969 Indy 500 fire suit. Heritage Auctions in Dallas has the suit, along with many other racing collectibles, up for bid as part of the Dr. Harlen Hunter Collection. It's complete with rips and stains from that day. Nothing wins a costume contest like aged Mario sweat and oil stains.

Unser Jr. to race 4 other Unsers this weekend
Al Unser Sr.
Al Unser Jr., now 53, still lights up a room with that big smile, those warm eyes and a hearty laugh. Of course, his stature as one of racing's all-time greats is the ultimate sealer.

The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner best known for saying "you just don't know what Indy means" has never really left IndyCar racing, although the temptations of alcohol led to breaks in appearances. Which makes this weekend special.

Unser Jr. is back at Indianapolis Motor Speedway to compete in the second Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational, a competitive car show of muscle cars, amateur enthusiast drivers and former racers on the road course. Thirty-three former 500 drivers, including five members of the Unser family, will compete in Sunday's Indy Legends Pro-Am.

NASCAR considering track-specific aero packages?
Steve O'Donnell
Steve O'Donnell
NASCAR Vice President and Chief Racing Development Officer Steve O'Donnell has revealed an interesting new angle in the ongoing discussion about the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series aerodynamic package. In an interview at the American Speedfest event at Brands Hatch, which hosted rounds five and six of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series on June 6th & 7th, O'Donnell told Downforce Radio that NASCAR is considering track-specific aero packages for 2016, and possibly earlier.

He said: "I think you'll look at a little bit more of a set race package, so instead of looking at a 2016 package, you'll look at it more in terms of putting some packages around certain tracks - not to have it be 36 individual packages, but potentially look at some lower downforce at some (tracks), look at superspeedway packages, kind of cater it to certain tracks."

A Reader Writes
An AR1 reader notes that Honda was quite dominant about a decade ago.
It is interesting to me that Honda was winning regularly before 2006, when the IRL became a single-engine series. Maybe the answer for them winning again is uncovering the changes that were made inside Honda around 2007, 2008 and going back to what worked.

Could it be that easy?...Curious in the Windy City

NASCAR: Toyota Notes & Quotes
This weekend's race at Michigan will be Kyle Busch's fourth start since returning from injuries sustained at Daytona
KYLE'S COMEBACK CONTINUES: Camry driver Kyle Busch returns to the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) this weekend at the two-mile Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Busch, who was injured in the season-opening NXS race at Daytona International Speedway, made his return to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) four weeks ago at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In seven career NXS starts at MIS, the 30-year old racer has claimed one victory (2004) and six top-five results. Busch's schedule for additional NXS races is yet to be determined.

CRAFTON CHARGING: Tundra driver Matt Crafton is looking to continue his successful 2015 campaign and ultimately earn a history-making third consecutive NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) championship. After seven of 23 races this season, Crafton has taken his ThorSport Racing Tundra to victory lane three times, including Friday night's race at Texas Motor Speedway. Crafton holds a 25-point lead over second-place Tyler Reddick in the NCWTS point standings as the series makes its way to Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis where Crafton has made 11 career starts with seven top-10 finishes.

Taylor Swift's Charlotte concert draws a NASCAR crowd
Taylor Swift’s latest album released caused a stir in the NASCAR community last fall, including a homemade lip-syncing viral video by Denny Hamlin.

So it’s no surprise the Charlotte stop on Swift’s 1989 tour Monday night brought a parade of NASCAR personalities to Time Warner Cable Arena.

Sprint Cup champions Jimmie Johnson (who admitted last year to harmonizing with Swift in his personal car) and Matt Kenseth brought their daughters to the concert.

'Amateur' outburst exposes Fernando Alonso's frustration at McLaren

Fernando Alonso knew when he re-signed for McLaren that it would take time and a lot of hard work to get the British team back atop the Formula One standings.

He might not have thought it would be quite this tough.

After seven races of his first season back at McLaren, Alonso is yet to win a point and has retired from the last three races - an unprecedented streak in his 14-year career in F1.

Villeneuve Talks Le Mans, IndyCar and Respect in F1
Jacques Villeneuve
Jacques Villeneuve, the 1995 Indy 500 winner and 1997 Formula One champion, spent last weekend in the paddock of the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve (which, of course, is named after his late father).

The outspoken Canadian, born just 50 kilometers from the track, has never been afraid to share whatever is on his mind a refreshing change from most PR-trained modern F1 drivers. I spoke with Villeneuve on Saturday evening, after he finished a television appearance on Sky Sports, as the sun dipped low over Mount Royal.

Although he is now 44 years old and seven years removed from his last racing victory of any kind driving for Peugeot at the 1,000 Kilometers of Spa in 2008 Villeneuve still has ambitions for himself behind the wheel.

NASCAR considering change to qualifying rules
Steve O'Donnell
Steve O'Donnell
Could a tweak to NASCAR qualifying be coming? Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief operating officer, hinted so during his appearance Tuesday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio's "The Morning Drive" show. Last weekend at Pocono Raceway, Denny Hamlin spun with less than a minute left in the final round. That prevented Hamlin and four other drivers from recording a time in the final round. NASCAR's rules state that if more than one driver is unable to complete a lap in a round, their position is determined based on who had the fastest lap in the previous round. Hamlin had the second-fastest lap in the second round. That placed him ahead of the four other drivers who had yet to record a time in the final round even though Hamlin caused the caution. That policy could change.

"It's something we are going to look at," O'Donnell said. "In this case is it the right decision to have a driver, not on purpose, cause a caution and therefore they qualify ahead of ... drivers who may have not been able to go out and qualify? Some folks could say that's on them, they should have gone out earlier, but you also look at it if that is the right move. We're taking a hard look at that this weekend. We've had some dialogue with some of the industry and we'll make a decision here shortly." NBC Sports
