Toyota NSCS Michigan Post-Qualifying Notes & Quotes
Carl Edwards
CARL EDWARDS, No. 19 ARRIS Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Starting Position:  4th

How was the car in qualifying?

"The ARRIS Toyota is pretty good and I thought I messed that lap up and it was still fast. I think we have a good race car and now we'll just work on race trim tomorrow and hopefully be good in the race. There is some stuff we can work on, but qualifying trim is so different than race trim. It will be a lot different tomorrow."

Toronto Friday post-practice quotes
WILL POWER (No. 1 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet): "I felt like we had a pretty good car, so we're not too far out of the window. We're not changing much. We'll just go into tomorrow and see what we've got. I'm hoping it's going to be dry. Otherwise we should have been running (in the second practice session)."

JUAN PABLO MONTOYA (No. 2 PPG Automotive Refinish Team Penske Chevrolet): "You can't focus on points. You have to focus on executing every weekend and if things work out well then we look good. It's exciting to be in my second year back and leading the points though it doesn't guarantee anything. So far it's been a good season and I think we have really good cars in Toronto. We went out, didn't get in many laps because we had a problem with the brakes, but the speed was there. It's encouraging, but with the rain it just makes it hard because it washes away any rubber we put down and tomorrow we have to start from zero."

Toronto Organizers Go with Flow of Changes
New hotel cramping IndyCar's style
Lucille Dust/AR1.com
There are a few things encroaching on the Honda Indy Toronto's space at Exhibition Place, but as they have since 1986, organizers are adjusting. Construction of a large-scale hotel complex since spring 2014 has impacted the temporary street circuit's pit out and an expansion of the east side of BMO Field (home of the FC Toronto soccer team) has tightened display space.

A beach volleyball stadium, being constructed for the Pan American Games in July, is temporary but has displaced the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires paddock and altered the shape and location of the Verizon IndyCar Series paddock. Exhibition Place will host 15 Pan Am Games events at five venues.

Turn 2 at Pocono Raceway to be repaved before ABC Supply 500
Verizon IndyCar Series teams should find a smoother Turn 2 at Pocono Raceway on Aug. 22-23 for the ABC Supply 500 - the penultimate race of the season - after a bump significant enough to upset NASCAR Sprint Cup Series cars last week will be repaved.

“Everything just got beat up so bad because it was so cold. And it's basically back-to-back years of awful winters, and they're taking their toll,” track president Brandon Igdalsky said.

Also, two infield towers that will hold double-sided 24 foot x 30 foot HD video screens are being constructed and will be operational for the Verizon IndyCar Series race.

2nd Toronto practice washed out and an update from Exhibition Place
Conor Daly chats with James Hinchcliffe
Ramesh Bayney

Heavy rain has washed out the 2nd practice session for the IndyCar in preparation for the Honda IndyCar GP of Toronto. No one took the risk of driving in the rain when the rest of the weekend should be dry.

Team Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya got an early jump on the competition by recording the fastest lap during the first practice session Friday for the Honda Indy Toronto.

Montoya, the current Verizon IndyCar Series points leader and the reigning Indy 500 winner, was clocked at 1:00.6343 in the No. 2 PPG Automotive Refinish Team Penske Dallara/Chevrolet for his fastest lap around the 11-turn, 1.755-mile Exhibition Place street circuit.

"We went out, didn't get in many laps because we had a problem with the brakes on the PPG Chevy, but the speed was there," said Montoya, who owns two victories this season. "It's encouraging, but with the rain it just makes it hard because it washes away any rubber we put down and tomorrow we have to start from zero."

Ford confirmed the rumors today in a press conference almost exactly 24 hours before the 24 Hours of Le Mans takes the green flag: Next year, on the 50th anniversary of the brand’s one-two-three finish in the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ford will return with a four-car, factory-backed effort featuring the new GT, racing in the LM GTE Pro class, with teams fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates.

Morning update from Toronto
Hotel X will be open in time for next year's race
Lucille Dust/AR1.com
Good morning from North of the border.  It is raining here and gloomy but Saturday and Sunday should be nicer. Cooler temperatures and dry conditions are predicted for Saturday and Sunday.  This year we will only have one race on Sunday instead of the doubleheader weekend.

The new hotel they are building in the center of the Exhibition Place is evident outside the windows of the media center.  The view of pit lane is nonexistent with the new structure.  The boutique hotel named Hotel X is expected to be open by next summer and would be ultra-convenient for staying close to the racing action.  There will 5 restaurants, a tennis court and a swimming pool to keep guests occupied while staying in the middle of this large facility.
