Parente Blasts Bentley to the Top PWC GT Time Friday at Road America
Veteran Alvaro Parente of Portugal paced the Pirelli World Challenge GT practice rounds Friday at the legendary Road America road circuit in preparation for the GT/GTS Sprint doubleheader weekend as part of the Kohler Grand Prix.
Parente, the 2016 PWC GT overall series champion, drove the yellow and black No. 9 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 to the quickest lap of the day with a two-minutes, 5.551 seconds to lead the GT field with an average speed of 115.40 miles per hour. Parente’s top lap was set in the second of three PWC practice rounds.
Foyt confirms ABC Supply, Kanaan, Leist to remain in 2019
AJ Foyt Racing team president Larry Foyt has confirmed that the team’s principal sponsor and its veteran/rising star lineup of Tony Kanaan and Matheus Leist will all remain with the team in 2019.
There had been rumors that ABC Supply, now in its 14thyear as title sponsor on the Foyt cars, might withdraw its support at season’s end. Since Target ended its sponsorship of Chip Ganassi Racing, ABC Supply has been IndyCar's longest-running principal sponsor.

Owners of 2019 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 models should check their mailboxes in the weeks to come; GM has issued a recall for the 755-horsepower sports car over a faulty sensing diagnostic module (SDM).
Per the safety recall report Chevrolet filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, extreme braking or acceleration can cause the SDM to enter a "fault state." Should this occur, the SDM will not provide crash-sensing data or deploy airbags in the event of a crash. Chevy said the SDM will not enter the correct state unless battery power is removed from the system.
George Russell clinched his first FIA Formula 2 Championship pole position in Qualifying at Le Castellet, France, clocking in a 1:44.469 on his second set of tires to take ART Grand Prix’s first pole of the season, ending the streak of Alexander Albon (DAMS) who starts tomorrow’s Feature Race from second. Free Practice timesheet topper Lando Norris will take third place on the grid.
Boccolacci snatches Le Castellet pole in final seconds of qualifying
Dorian Boccolacci took his maiden GP3 Series pole position in style, the MP Motorsport driver prevailing late on during Qualifying in Le Castellet, France to overhaul countryman Anthoine Hubert in the dying moments of the session with a 1:50.615 lap. ART Grand Prix’s Hubert begins tomorrow’s race from the front row, as Giuliano Alesi of Trident completed an all-French top three.
Newgarden tops opening IndyCar practice at Road America
Josef Newgarden turned the fastest lap in his Penske Chevy to top opening IndyCar practice for the Kohler Grand Prix at Road America. His time of 1m43.048s was 0.4 seconds faster than Takuma Sato and 0.5s faster than Alexander Rossi, both in Hondas.
Robert Wickens (SPM Honda) was 4th quick and Marco Andretti (Andretti Honda) rounded out the top-5. Very few laps were turned in the incident-free session because IndyCar does not give the teams enough tires for this track.
Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes power advantage to good use on the long Paul Ricard straights to easily top practice 2 for the French GP. Hamilton's time of 1m32.539s was a full 7/10ths quicker than the Red Bull duo of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.
The two Ferraris were 4th and 5th, Kimi Raikkonen was 0.89s behind while Sebastian Vettel was a full 1.15s behind and focusing on long runs

Later today should be around 70 degrees with a slight chance of rain today. It was raining in certain places on my way into the track this morning but it is dry here.
Norris grabs fastest lap in Le Castellet Free Practice
Lando Norris topped the timesheets in a sunny Free Practice during the FIA Formula 2 Championship round at Le Castellet, France, the Carlin driver setting a 1:45.562 lap in the first fifteen minutes of the session to head ART Grand Prix’s George Russell and BWT Arden’s Maximilian Gunther.
First Data Expands Partnership with Chip Ganassi and Ed Jones

Chip Ganassi Racing (CGR) announced today that First Data (NYSE: FDC), a global leader in commerce-enabling technology, will partner with Ed Jones and the No. 10 Honda team in the upcoming Verizon IndyCar Series race at Road America.
This expands the relationship that began when First Data joined CGR NASCAR teammate Jamie McMurray and the No. 1 car in 2016. The partnership grew to two primaries in 2017 with Kyle Larson and the No. 42 car and to five in 2018 with both Larson and McMurray in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
Hubert tops Le Castellet Free Practice Anthoine Hubert of ART Grand Prix led the way in the Free Practice session of the GP3 Series round at Le Castellet, France, setting a 1:51.091 at his home circuit to eclipse teammate Jake Hughes by almost half a second, as Nikita Mazepin completed the top three.

The drafting package used during the Monster Energy NASCAR All-Star Race weekend continues to be a discussion point for NASCAR competition officials, tracks, teams, manufacturers and engine builders. The conversation now, though, is centered on how to potentially implement elements of it in 2019 at the earliest.
The rules package used at the All-Star Race that included aero ducts, a higher spoiler, plates and an older splitter, will not be used in the Monster Energy Series again in 2018.
Mercedes team dominate opening practice at Paul Ricard
In the Friday morning track cleaning session at the Circuit Paul Ricard, it was Lewis Hamilton who had the upper hand in Practice 1 for the French GP, finishing fastest as many of the drivers suffered spins on the dusty track surface.
Hamilton finished the session 0.14s ahead of Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas, with the Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo in third.
