Lowe's Williams slug is destroying team's soul
Claire Williams - searching for her lost soul.
Claire Williams - searching for her lost soul.

Paddy Lowe was brought onboard by Williams thinking he could make the Williams fast. Just the opposite happened - despite having the best engine (Mercedes) the Williams is the slowest car on the grid and it's destroying the soul of the team.

"For me personally, this is very difficult, it's heart-breaking and it's a little bit soul destroying," she said during Friday's British GP Press Conference. "This is mostly my family's team and it's been within our family for four decades now and the sacrifices our family have made for the team over the years have been great - but we've also had an enormous reward and feel enormously privileged as a family to be involved in this amazing sport."

Grosjean in Silverstone garage before he plastered the tire barrier
According to Guenther Steiner American drivers are not good enough for the American Haas F1 team so he hired two foreign drivers.  As is normal one or both of them crash each race weekend.

On Friday at Silverstone Romain Grosjean crashed in first practice. And to make matters worse, the damaged sustained to his car was such that Haas had no choice but to change Grosjean’s chassis, meaning the 10-time podium finisher will have to sit out FP2.

Mercedes 1-2 in opening British GP practice
Hamilton easily fastest at Silverstone, his favorite track
Hamilton easily fastest at Silverstone, his favorite track
Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas ran 1-2 in opening practice for the British GP by 1/2 second over the Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton's lap of 1m27.487s was 3/10ths up on his teammate.

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen claimed fourth and fifth spots, but the session wasn’t without incident for the Finn, as he spun his Ferrari coming through Brooklands and bounced over the curbs. He rejoined the track without damage, though, and finished ahead of the second Red Bull of Max Verstappen. The Dutchman ended FP1 parked on the start-finish straight, however, with a suspected gearbox issue.

ISC Reports 10% Dip In Admissions Revenue For Fiscal Q2 (Update)
UPDATE ISC President John Saunders today discussed the company's Q2 attendance decline of 10% with financial analysts, and he "matter-of-factly mentioned the lack of star power" in NASCAR. Saunders: "We still have an issue with star power and hopefully this stable of young drivers coming along will start to win and build their brands." Few observers "would argue that the recent retirements" of high-profile drivers "have drained some of the star power from the sport." Three drivers -- Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. -- have "combined to win 13 of the 17 races this year." Why McLaren and Williams are in dire straits

Ron Dennis let Adrian Newey get away and McLaren plunged into F1 purgatory hell ever since
Its the Chief Engineer stupid.

Engineers win in F1, not drivers.  Adrian Newey (Red Bull), Aldo Costa (Mercedes)  and now Mattia Binotto (Ferrari) design winning cars. Only drivers on those 3 teams can win races.

F1 is 99% engineering (car) and 1% driver talent.

This letter from a McLaren employee to Paul Velasco of Grandprix 247 says it all.

An LMP2 car won their first IMSA race and, having none of that, God steps in and gives the DPi cars more power, proving once again that God does not want any foreign cars winning IMSA races
DPi cars from three of the four manufacturers have been given power increases ahead of this weekend’s Mobil 1 Sportscar Grand Prix at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

IMSA released Wednesday the revised Balance of Performance table for the seventh round of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, which sees changes to all three categories.

It comes following the first victory of the season by a LMP2 car, which remains the performance baseline for the Prototype class.

The Cadillac DPi-V.R has been given a 0.3 mm larger air restrictor, while there have been increases in turbo boost for both the Mazda RT24-P and Nissan Onroak DPi.

The RCCI engine uses both gasoline and diesel fuel
When most of us pull up to the pump, we are in vehicles that require gasoline. A portion of us sidle up to diesel pumps. In the future, maybe we'll we'll drive vehicles with RCCI engines and we'll need to hit both pumps. The Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition (RCCI) engine is a concept engine being developed by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and it only exists in the lab. What it's capable of, however, could be revolutionary. The RCCI engine can deliver up to 60 percent thermal efficiency.  As for gasoline engines, the Toyota Prius's engine will hit a remarkably high 42-percent thermal efficiency, while the Mercedes-AMG F1 engine reaches to 50 percent. Most other gasoline engines have thermal efficiencies in the 30-40-percent range.

Dale Jr.'s debut on NASCAR broadcast an instant classic
NBCSN earned a 1.6 overnight rating for yesterday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Overtons 400 at Chicagoland, up 14% from last year's race at Chicagoland which was the playoff opener in September and earned a 1.4 on the same channel.
"First broadcast was a big hit, I feel like." NBCSN earned a 1.6 overnight rating for yesterday's Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Overtons 400 at Chicagoland, up 14% from last year's race at Chicagoland which was the playoff opener in September and earned a 1.4 on the same channel.
The deep appreciation Dale Earnhardt Jr. carries for NASCAR's history includes him often re-watching races from decades before. It was fitting then that Sunday his debut Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series broadcast as a full-time NBC analyst just happened to be a race harkening to the classics Earnhardt likes to view.

A thrilling last-lap duel featuring Kyle Busch and Kyle Larson saw them bump-and-bang off one another multiple times, culminating with Busch nudging Larson out of the lead in Turn 3, then maintaining control of his battered car to drive it across the finish line to win the Overton's 400 at Chicagoland Speedway."That's all Dale Jr. right there," Busch said of the finish. "It's 70s-, 80s- [esque]."

During the buildup to the stirring finish and on the final lap itself, Earnhardt shined in his new role, displaying an acumen for broadcasting that gives every indication he will be as successful in the broadcast booth as he was on the track.
