Mexican GP sells out
Whilst delighted by the popularity of F1's return to Mexico, race promoter admits the challenge is to maintain the feeling.

"After 23 years of absence there is a lot of excitement, not just in Mexico City but all across the country," said Federico Gonzalez Compean of race promoter CIE. "People are counting the days and we are almost ready. We are 80 per cent finished with the construction, so we feel confident. We are focusing now on the experience people are going to have at the grand prix. It's not only about the race, it's about the experience and what people are expecting across the whole weekend. How we can get the city to embrace the race and the whole adventure of Formula One coming back to Mexico City."

2015-2016 Formula E Calendar
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO – The FIA WMSC, which met today in Mexico City, has approved the calendar for the second season of the FIA Formula E Championship. It is made up of 11 races, hosted in 10 cities, with London exceptionally hosting two races, as was the case in the inaugural season.

The second edition of the FIA series for single-seaters powered completely by electricity will get underway on Saturday October 17th this year in Beijing and will end in London, having travelled to at least nine different countries on three continents. Compared to last season, the main novelty is the appearance on the calendar of the Paris ePrix on April 23rd, which will take place on a circuit built up around the architectural complex of Les Invalides. The venue for the fifth round is still to be decided, while the absence of the Monaco ePrix is due to an alternation of dates with the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, which takes place only on even-numbered years.

Hamilton wants to get rid of driver aids for starts
Lewis Hamilton says he welcomes the FIA's move to have greater driver input in race starts from next month's Belgian GP.

Radio coaching in the build-up to the start is expected to be banned for Spa, followed by technical changes – such as a single clutch paddle – for 2016.

“I guess it really depends how they go about doing it,” said Hamilton at Silverstone. “But I'm happy, the more control we get the better.

This could be the last year for IndyCar racing in Milwaukee
Michael Andretti has done his best to save the Milwaukee race.
I'm not sure what to think.

Fans want racing at the Milwaukee Mile. They'll tell you they do.

They fretted as each promoter passed through a revolving door and the future for the graying track seemed to grow increasingly bleak. They took some solace that although NASCAR left, it moved only as far as Road America for 2010. But, no, that wasn't what they really wanted. IndyCar went away for a year and then, after one more shot, said it would leave again. More bad news. The handwriting was on the white concrete wall before Michael Andretti put together a deal for 2012.

Hinchcliffe questions rules for NASCAR IndyCar
James Hinchcliffe
James Hinchcliffe may be sidelined from his day job as driver of the No. 5 Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda, but it hasn’t stopped him from having some strong opinions on the recent rash of dangerous crashes in the Verizon IndyCar Series and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

In a phone interview with the Toronto Sun Thursday from his home in Indianapolis, he said both IndyCar and NASCAR have to come to terms with the effects of treacherous pack racing that triggered a succession of multi-car wrecks at both the MAVTV 500 two weeks ago at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., and at last weekend’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway.

"Thunder" Road: Mars Promotes Crispy M&Ms Through Video Series Starring Kyle Busch
Riding the trend of brands using longer-format creative, Mars’ M&M’s brand today unveiled a new digitally based video series that plays off of the NASCAR-themed movie “Days of Thunder” and the driver it sponsors, Kyle Busch. The video series, which was shot a few months ago at Charlotte Motor Speedway, recreates old scenes from the movie with Busch as the star and intersperses the Crispy M&Ms brand throughout.

The spots, which will also include behind-the-scenes interviews and a blooper reel, will run on M&M’s YouTube page and be supported by display advertising on NASCAR.com plus shoutouts on the social media pages of NASCAR, Mars, Busch and that of his team, Joe Gibbs Racing. Mars, which has had an official relationship with NASCAR for 25 years and is pushing the Crispy M&Ms brand on Busch’s No. 18 Toyota Camry all season long, decided to undertake the campaign in part because “Days of Thunder” is Busch’s favorite movie, and the movie’s debut also came 25 years ago.

Jack Harvey
Jack Harvey
The newest specification of car on the Mazda Road to Indy development ladder heads to the oldest race track in North America, the Milwaukee Mile oval, this weekend for the Grand Prix of Milwaukee, Round 11 of Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires. The 16-race schedule has reached a critical juncture with three drivers -- Jack Harvey, Spencer Pigot and Ed Jones -- separated by just 23 points as they chase a top prize of a guaranteed entry in three rounds of the 2016 Verizon IndyCar Series, including the historic 100th Indianapolis 500.

The highest rung on the acclaimed Mazda Road to Indy has been grooming up-and-coming drivers for the pinnacle of American open-wheel racing for 30 years since its introduction as the American Racing Series in 1986. Indy Lights has been rejuvenated in 2015 with the introduction of the state-of-the-art Dallara IL-15 chassis matched to the turbocharged 2.0-liter Mazda MZR-R engine. Toyota: Carl Edwards Kentucky Notes & Quotes
Carl Edwards
Carl Edwards
CARL EDWARDS,
No. 19 Minions Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

Are you looking forward to racing with the Minions this weekend?
“We have the Minions Camry and this is pretty cool. We’re going to have a little bit of fun with it. For me, this weekend is special. This is the site of my first win in NASCAR – the Truck Series and it was huge. Then my win in 2005 in the Xfinity Series and now NASCAR is going the direction I’ve been wanting to go for a while with a less downforce package and I’m excited to see how it runs. Hopefully it will be a good weekend.”

What is it specifically you like about Kentucky?
“The cool part about Kentucky is it has character – it’s got bumps, it’s got grooves and the banking changes. Now I really think with the smaller spoilers and less aero dependency this is going to be a really tough race. You’ll see guys really struggling and hopefully we struggle less than most of them. I think it’s going to be a tough race and that’s why I like Kentucky.”

Helio Castroneves and Tony Kanaan reached milestones with their 300th Indy car starts in May. Now it's Scott Dixon's turn July 12 in the ABC Supply Co. Inc. Wisconsin 250 at Milwaukee IndyFest presented by the Metro Milwaukee Honda Dealers.

The driver of the No. 9 Cottonelle Chevrolet will mark his 250th Indy car start, which over his 15 seasons is 14th on the all-time list.

"When you see starts you definitely understand how long you've been around and kind of start to feel old, but the longevity is really cool as well," said Dixon, who won at Milwaukee in 2009. "Motor racing is tough week to week opposed to foreseeing 10 years down the road and how it's going to go. You hope for the best. Because of your passion and love for the sport, you want to be around a long time. I feel very lucky and privileged to be an Indy car driver.

Wilson to run rest of season with Andretti
Justin Wilson speaking with Rob Edwards during Indianapolis 500 practice
INDIANAPOLIS (July 7, 2015) – Racing veteran Justin Wilson will return to the Verizon IndyCar Series with Andretti Autosport beginning with this weekend's Milwaukee IndyFest, and will continue to pilot the No. 25 Honda for the remainder of the 2015 season. With 170 Verizon IndyCar Series starts over 13 seasons, the 36-year-old has totaled seven wins, 26-podium finishes, 93 top 10s and over 700 laps led.

"It's obviously great to be back with Andretti Autosport for the remainder of the season," said Wilson. "I'm really looking forward to making the most of these five races, and just trying to help the team and Honda as much as I can and try and be successful. It's not going to be easy jumping in toward the end of the year – everyone's worked out what they're looking for from the car and the aero kits, but I think it puts us in good shape for learning things and trying to progress… and hopefully set something up towards next year. We'll have to take it one step at a time, but the great thing with IndyCar racing is any weekend anyone can win; you just have to make sure you do a good job and do everything as perfect as you can, and that will lead to good results."

France Says Dillon Crash Analysis Has Already Begun
NASCAR got so much free press for the Dillon accidents the PR exposure for NASCAR is immeasurable. Pack Racing is good for NASCAR's business worth millions in the long run. Will NASCAR eliminate 'Pack' Racing? When in doubt, follow the money --- Mark C. AR1.com
NASCAR Chairman Brian France said today that the sanctioning body is already hard at work reviewing the crash that destroyed the Chevrolet of Austin Dillon on the final lap of the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona.

“We’re sorting out the best options we have in front of us with technology and innovation to make things better,” said France on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s Tradin’ Paint. “The work has already begun on that. That’s job one at NASCAR - safe, tight, good competition.

NASCAR has transported the battered remains of Dillon’s car to its Research and Development Center in Concord, NC for examination. France said officials will also utilize automated pit road surveillance cameras to review the moments leading up to the crash from multiple angles, in an effort to identify any improvements that can be made.

Pack Racing a Staple of NASCAR
It will be a cold day in hell before 'Pack' racing at Daytona and Talladega are eliminated. That would mean TV ratings would fall and attendance would plummet, costing the France Family millions. You have a better chance of it snowing in July in Daytona. -- Mark C. AR1.com
The list grows and each time a sickening feeling returns. Cars in the fence. Even a Truck.

And fans injured. While drivers assume risk, fans don’t and shouldn’t.

Yet, Austin Dillon’s crash into the catch fence Monday morning marked the third time since Feb. 2012 fans have been injured at Daytona International Speedway. More than 35 spectators have been hurt in those incidents.

At what point is change necessary to protect fans? At what point must changes be made to keep cars and trucks from flying into the fence like an out-of-control circus act? At what point should radical changes be considered, even if displeasing to spectators, to protect everyone?

Jeff Gordon's final run at Daytona was something he'll never forget. Neither will anybody else involved.

Gordon, who will retire from fulltime racing at the end of the season after 24 years in NASCAR Sprint Cup, finished sixth Monday morning in the Coke Zero 400, the last of his 46 races at Daytona International Speedway's 2.5-mile tri-oval.

But after he crossed the finish line, a chain-reaction crash pushed Austin Dillon's car into the back of Gordon's car, sending Gordon sliding sideways. Dillon's car became airborne behind Gordon and slammed into the catchfence, destroying the car and a portion of the fence and sending debris flying into the crowd. Dillon emerged from the terrifying scene with only a bruised tailbone and bruised forearm, but five fans were treated for minor injuries.

A huge crash as cars crossed the finish line early Monday morning in the Coke Zero 400 sent Austin Dillon's #3 car airborne and tore down part of the catch fence, injuring several fans, one of whom was briefly hospitalized. Dillon's torn car, with its engine already resting on another part of the racetrack, ended up on its roof and then was smashed into by Brad Keselowski's #2 car. One fan was sent to a local hospital in stable condition, then treated and released. Daytona president Joie Chitwood said 12 other people were assessed after the accident - four were treated and released by track medics, and eight declined treatment. Officials with the track and NASCAR said they will evaluate the performance of the catch fence. NASCAR also has taken Dillon's car for a post-accident evaluation, a common procedure after a major accident. Chitwood said that the new Daytona grandstands cause people to take escalators up to the middle level and walk to the lower-level seats, which eliminates fans from trying to walk next to the fence during a race. He said the fence did its job.
