John Andretti in the Rollie Helmling #4 Midget, 1985
Continuing what has become a tradition in years past, third generation champion USAC racing driver Jarett Andretti today announced the livery design for his non-wing sprint car entry for the 2019 USAC Indiana Sprint Week Races.
Andretti’s #18 Andretti Autosport Superior Auto sponsored entry will feature a deep cherry red body with white and chrome silver accents. The colors and design are reminiscent of the 1985 midget raced by Andretti’s father, John Andretti for Rollie Helmling.
SmartStop Self Storage and Sage Karam and Daly Back with Carlin in Iowa
Karam gets another race
Sage Karam and Conor Daly will be Carlin’s drivers when the NTT IndyCar Series resumes action this weekend at Iowa Speedway.
Karam drove for Carlin at last weekend’s Honda Indy Toronto, a street circuit race at Exhibition Place. It was Karam’s first race with the team, and he finished 21st.
"We were very impressed with Sage's steady progression throughout the Toronto race weekend and his willingness to learn and adapt," team principal Trevor Carlin said. "The fact that he hadn't been on a street course since 2015 and was still able to come right out of the gate confident and constantly improving every session was extremely impressive."
Podcast on IndyCar drug smuggler, Randy Lanier, Available Today
What: “Smoked” is a six-part podcast and multimedia series charting the extraordinary life of South Florida’s Randy Lanier as reflected in the cultural shift toward legal marijuana. He was a racing prodigy who rose to stardom at the Indy 500 while living a secret double life as one of the biggest pot kingpins in American history. In 1984, he won the International Motor Sport Association championship and was then named Rookie of the Year at the 1986 Indy 500. But off the track, Lanier’s secret life as a marijuana smuggler brought his lavish lifestyle to an abrupt half and landed him in prison until 2014.
Lanier's release and post-prison life offers a modern lens through which "Smoked" also examines society's changing relationship with marijuana, and the legacy of those already incarcerated for it. The world he’s in now, after nearly 30 years behind bars, is much friendlier to the plant that he was imprisoned for trafficking. Today, Lanier works with recovering addicts at a substance abuse treatment center in Florida.
Watch the Aston Martin Valkyrie Make Its Dynamic Debut at the British Grand Prix
Aston Martin Valkyrie debuts at British GP
At the British Grand Prix race at the Silverstone circuit in England this past weekend, the Valkyrie made its public dynamic debut ahead of the Formula 1 race, marking the first time it had been driven publicly.
The Valkyrie was piloted by Chris Goodwin, Aston Martin's head test driver. He called the day "exceptionally special," adding that while there is still a lot of development work yet to be done, "We can now begin to really push the physical testing process and realize the capabilities of what we have developed over the past months."
The Libtards make everything about race, and a left-wing nut job reporter's questioning of Hamilton had race bait undertones
(GMM) Lewis Hamilton has distanced himself from suggestions that the British media has an attitude with "racist undertones" about Lewis Hamilton.
Heading into his home race, one reporter for the left-wing newspaper The Guardian asked the Mercedes driver about his British "accent", the time he spends in the US, and the fact that he lives in Monaco.
"I remember watching Jenson Button and all the others coming through and every one migrated to Monaco and no one ever said anything about it. When I did, they had something to say about it," Hamilton responded.
But then, former British footballer Rio Ferndinand wrote a social media post about Hamilton and said there are "racist undertones" to the criticism of him.
After decades of using 15-inch diameter tires, NASCAR and Goodyear definitely will increase tire size diameter – probably to 18-inches – beginning in 2021 when the new Generation 7 Cup Series racecar is put into use, Kickin’ the Tires reports.
“It is not just a tire change, it is the overall Gen 7 package that everybody is working on for 2021,” said Greg Stucker, Goodyear’s Director of Racing. “Part of the whole idea is to try to update the cars somewhat, make it a little bit more relevant to what you see on the street these days. So, I think there will be probably some more differentiation among manufacturers, the car itself will be totally different from a performance perspective.
ISC Announces Merger Agreement With NASCAR Holdings, Inc. (2nd Update)
ISC facilities. Once deal closes the France Family, should they choose, can sell it all to Liberty
UPDATE Wells Fargo has dropped International Speedway (ISCA -0.7%) to an Underperform rating from Market Perform.
"We see no upside potential to the current share price given pending minority shareholder approval of $45/share cash acquisition offer by NASCAR for the ~25% of voting shares not controlled by the France family," advises WF.
The firm also sees downside risk on the low chance that minority shareholders reject the deal.
Wells' price target of $41 is below the sell-side average PT of 44.
NBCSN earned a horrible 0.36 overnight rating for yesterday's NTT IndyCar Series Honda Indy Toronto, up slightly from an equally horrible 0.35 overnight for last year's race.
Editor's Note: How do you grow a series with ratings that low? What sponsors want to sponsor a car with ratings that low? Why not put 100% of the races on NBC, and pay the delta so teams can be flush with sponsorship and NTT Data can get more value for their IndyCar sponsorship?
Sebastian Vettel apologized to Red Bull Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen immediately after the British Grand Prix for their collision during the race.
Verstappen had just passed Vettel in the battle for third place on lap 37 when the German attempted to retake the position down the inside of Vale - only to lock up and hit the defending Verstappen when Verstappen moved to block him.
From the drop of the green flag, Oliver Askew drove to the checkered flag for his first Indy Lights win around the streets of Exhibition Place in Toronto. The newly-crown Freedom 100 winner, who started today's race in the pole position, claimed his fourth victory of the season in a dominating fashion.
The American rookie has boded well in Indy Lights with four wins, four poles and nine podiums in 11 races. Askew joined Andretti Autosport in 2019, after competing in the Indy Pro 2000 Championship Presented by Cooper Tires where he finished third in the championship with one win. In 2017, Askew won the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship with seven wins and 11 podiums.

Aitken got the better of another British driver at the race start, as he joined Deletraz and De Vries in lunging ahead of reverse grid pole-sitter Callum Ilott who was slow off the line. The trio flung themselves down the right of the Ferrari Junior and dropped him to fourth at Turn 1.
Robert Shwartzman, Leonardo Pulcini, and Liam Lawson
Leonardo Puccini denied Championship leaders PREMA a win for the second round in a row, edging out Robert Shwartzman for his first taste of champagne this season, with a blistering drive in Race 2.
The Russian racer made a late charge through the field, but could only rise as high as second, coming unstuck against the dominant Italian who secured his team’s second victory at Silverstone. Reverse grid poleman Liam Lawson completed the top three to earn his first podium in FIA Formula 3.

Things got heated and grew to an altercation between Sebastien Bourdais and Takuma Sato on pit lane in Toronto this morning after morning practice.
After Bourdais passed Sato during the final lap of Saturday morning's practice session on the streets of Toronto Sato was furious.
"It was a ridiculous moment," Sato said later in the afternoon to Jim Ayello of the Indy Star. "I saw Josef (Newgarden) was sort of warming up his tires on the back straight so I had to back off. There’s not point to overtake him, because what do you gain?
Luca Ghiotto continued his return to form in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, following up his double podium placing at Spielberg, with his first ever Feature Race win. The UNI-Virtuosi man came out on top of a fierce battle with rival Nicholas Latifi, before building up a solid 5s gap ahead of the DAMS man, and third placed teammate Guanyu Zhou.
The Italian went wheel-to-wheel with his polesitting teammate when the lights went out and eventually cemented P1 at the end of Turn 2, edging ahead of Zhou. It was just as tight between the two DAMS behind him, as Sergio Sette Camara and Latifi battled it out for third.
THE MODERATOR: We are happy to be joined today, on many levels, I should say, we're happy to be joined by Sage Karam, driver this weekend of the No. 31 SmartStop Self Storage Carlin Chevrolet for Carlin. And I say that because we've known Sage a long time from USF2000 Champion to Pro Mazda Rookie of the Year, Indy Lights Champion, NTT IndyCar Series driver, a lot of things in this sport. You've been successful at every stop.
In a session interrupted by several red flags, Indy 500 winner Simon Pagenaud turned the fastest lap of 59.365s to lead the third practice session for the Honda Indy Toronto.
Pagenaud's time of 59.356s again beat Felix Rosenqvist, this time by just 0.07s. What has everyone scratching their heads is how Pagenaud is the only Chevy in the top-9 and his Penske teammates Will Power and Josef Newgarden are out to lunch.
Ryan Hunter-Reay who caused one of the red flags, was third quick, while Santino Ferrucci and Colton Herta rounded out the top-5.
It is a sunny morning here in Toronto, Canada. Temperatures are expected to reach 80 degrees Fahrenheit this afternoon. There are thunderstorms predicted to move into the area around 2 pm, which just happens to be the scheduled time for the Firestone Fast Six Qualifying. In a session hit by drizzle for a short period, Leclerc turned a lap of 1m25.905s in his #16 Ferrari to nip Vettel's #5 Ferrari by 0.026s. Leclerc's time was less than one tenth off last year's pole time on the 3.6-mile Northamptonshire airport circuit
Crowd favorite Lewis Hamilton was third just 0.049s back in his Mercedes.
