Acura NSX GT3 to make Surprise Public Test Debut Slated for Mid-Ohio

The Acura NSX GT3 racecar will make its public test debut on July 28 during Pirelli World Challenge practice sessions at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, Acura announced today. The racecar will be piloted by development driver, Peter Kox, during practice sessions on the 2.25-mile, 14-turn road course on Thursday, July 28 (8:50 a.m.- 9:30 a.m. EDT) and Friday, July 29 (4:15 p.m.- 4:45 p.m. EDT).
“Based on a very successful test program, we’re taking the next logical step in seeing how we stack-up against the competition,” said Art St. Cyr, president of Honda Performance Development. “Mid-Ohio seemed like the perfect opportunity, given the demands it places on a racecar and its proximity to NSX R&D and manufacturing.”
The 2018 Daytona 500, which will be the historic 60th running of NASCAR’s biggest and most prestigious event, will return to its traditional date on Presidents Day weekend -- Sunday, Feb. 18.
"We wanted to let all of our fans, partners and stakeholders know about this date adjustment in advance and give them ample time to make their travel plans for ‘The Great American Race,’ ” Daytona Int’l Speedway President Chip Wile said. “The 60th annual Daytona 500 is going to be a significant milestone in the event’s history and we look forward to a special celebration."
The Daytona 500 has been traditionally held on Presidents Day weekend/George Washington’s birthday from 1968 to 2011. In fact, the inaugural Daytona 500 back in 1959 was held on George Washington’s birthday.

Andretti Indy Lights drivers to test Indy cars at Watkins Glen
The Andretti Autosport Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires trio will take the opportunity to climb inside the cockpit of an Indy car for a Verizon IndyCar Series test at Watkins Glen International in two weeks. The August 11 test will serve as the next step to reaching a career goal for these young drivers as all three aspire to race in the Verizon IndyCar Series within the next few years.
Shelby Blackstock will sit behind the wheel of teammate Marco Andretti's No. 27 car for his maiden test. Blackstock has climbed the entire Mazda Road to Indy ladder with Andretti Autosport and is looking forward to continuing his progress to the next step by participating in the test.
Teams are so desperate for ride-buyer money in the IndyCar paddock due to their inability to land sponsorship on their own because of low TV ratings on NBCSN, they will go to great lengths to keep any deep pockets they can get their hands on.

Harvick's crew chief suspended for lug nut violation Rodney Childers, crew chief for current Sprint Cup Series points leader Kevin Harvick, has been suspended by NASCAR for this weekend’s race at Pocono Raceway.
NASCAR on Wednesday announced Childers has been fined $20,000 and suspended from all NASCAR competition through Aug. 3 after Harvick’s No. 4 Chevrolet was found to have improperly installed lug nuts following Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.

BAR1 Motorsports Announces Bruno Junqueira, Second Car for Road America
On Tuesday, BAR1 Motorsports announced that they will be fielding two cars for the upcoming IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship's Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America on Aug. 7. Matt McMurry, who drove the team's No. 20 at Lime Rock Park, will remain in the car. He will be joined by veteran Bruno Junqueira. In addition, the team will bring the No. 26 to the track for the first time since the Rolex 24 at Daytona back in January. Full-time driver Johnny Mowlem will move over to the No. 26 for the weekend. There, he will be joined by Don Yount, who has raced with Mowlem in the three Tequila Patron North American Endurance Cup races this year. Both cars will carry sponsorship from Gas Monkey Garage, Top 1 Oil and Southwest Funding.
Investigators say Tesla was speeding at time of crash

Federal investigators say the driver who was killed when his Tesla sedan crashed while in self-driving mode was speeding just before hitting the side of a tractor-trailer.
The National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report Tuesday that the Tesla Model S was traveling at 74 mph in a 65-mph zone on a divided highway in Williston, Florida, near Gainesville.

Hockenheimring Steps Up Security For This Weekend's German F1 Grand Prix
Security "will be stepped up for this weekend's German Grand Prix at Hockenheim in the wake of the attacks in the country over the past week," according to Daniel Johnson of the London TELEGRAPH.
Following a "spate of incidents which have shocked Germany in recent days, more police and security are planned for the race on Sunday, which takes place an hour from Frankfurt in the west of the country." There is "no specific intelligence which indicates that Formula One will be a target this weekend," but organizers "have sought to assuage any fears and are putting tighter restrictions in place."

The 2016 Honda Indy 200 will mark the 19th Indy car event for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) here and the first time to return as the defending champion. The team also competed in the Atlantic Series race in 2003 with Danica Patrick and has competed in ALMS races here in 2007 and from 2009-2012. The team has one win (G. Rahal 2015), three podiums (3rd: B. Rahal 1997, 1998) and the highest start is pole (Herta 1997). Another front row start came in 1999 (Herta; 2nd). Prior to the 2016 event, the team prepared a total of 28 Indy car entries for drivers Bobby Rahal (1992-98), Mike Groff (1994), Raul Boesel (1995), Bryan Herta (1996-99), Max Papis (1999-2001), Jimmy Vasser (2002), Michel Jourdain Jr. (2002-03) Ryan Hunter-Reay (2007-2008), Takuma Sato (2012), Graham Rahal (2013-2015) and James Jakes (2013).The team has earned THREE podiums (1st – G. Rahal; 3rd – Rahal 1997, 1998), 11 top-five’s and 15 top-10 finishes at the track. The No. 15 Steak ‘n Shake entry for Graham Rahal will bring the Indy car total to 29 entries in 2016.
Mobileye Ends Partnership with Tesla Auto-safety supplier Mobileye N.V., is ending its supply agreement with Tesla Motors Inc. following a high-profile traffic fatality in May that has been connected to semi-autonomous technology it sold to the Silicon Valley electric-vehicle maker.
Mobileye supplies camera-based advanced driver-assistance safety systems that help a vehicle steer or follow behind another car or brake on its own. The Israeli company has agreements with more than a dozen auto makers, but its relationship with Tesla had initially helped bring it to the attention of auto analysts and Wall Street. General Motors Co., Nissan Motor Co., BMW AG and Hyundai Motor Group make up more than 60% of its sales.
Dakoda Armstrong to Drive Joe Gibbs Racing's No. 18 at Iowa Joe Gibbs Racing announced Tuesday that Dakoda Armstrong will compete in the No. 18 car at Iowa Speedway this weekend for the NASCAR XFINITY Series. He will bring sponsor WinField to JGR for this weekend’s race.
Matt Tifft was originally scheduled to compete in this event, but he continues to recover following having surgery to remove a low-grade glioma in June and has not yet been cleared to return to competition.

Following a one-day test at Mid-Ohio last week, Enerson was confirmed by team owner Dale Coyne as the driver of the #19 Boy Scouts of America car for the Mid-Ohio round, the Indy Lights graduate will be joining fellow American and full-time DCR driver Conor Daly.
Contrary to Daly, who turned his first laps ever at Mid-Ohio at the test last week, Enerson has previous racing experience at the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course.

These three pieces of Mobil 1 online content will be released during the days leading up to race weekend, culminating with full primary sponsorships of Kevin Harvick, Danica Patrick and Tony Stewart for the Pennsylvania 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
Additionally, Mobil 1 will be the presenting sponsor of the race's NBC Sports Network TV broadcast.
NHRA & Royal Purple Raceway Extend Deal GLENDORA, Calif. – Officials from the NHRA and Royal Purple Raceway near Houston announced Monday that they have reached a multi-year contract extension for the NHRA SpringNationals.
In the agreement, the track will continue to host NHRA national events well into the future.
NASCAR Will Take Back Control Of Digital Ad Sales From Turner Sports NASCAR is "bringing digital ad sales back in-house from Turner Sports after this year and will create a new ad sales group" headed by NASCAR Digital Media Chief Revenue Officer Jon Tuck, according to Adam Stern of Sportsbusiness Journal.
This is the "next step in the sanctioning body’s quest to create a more integrated digital model." Turner has "handled NASCAR’s digital ad sales" since '00, when it also "began a 13-year run controlling the organization’s digital rights."

Richard Childress Racing Announces Competition Changes Richard Childress Racing (RCR) has made a change in crew chiefs for its NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series programs, effective immediately.
Danny Stockman, a two-time champion in the NASCAR XFINITY and Camping World Truck Series, will assume crew chief responsibilities for the No. 27 Menards Chevrolet SS team, with driver Paul Menard. Stockman's first race with the team will be at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, July 31.
Stewart-Haas to field Xfinity Team Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the championship-winning NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team, will expand into the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2017.
The organization will field a full-time, single-car team in the XFINITY Series with a driver and sponsor lineup to be announced prior to the conclusion of the 2016 season. The XFINITY Series team will be run from SHR’s headquarters in Kannapolis, North Carolina.
NASCAR Brickyards 400 TV Ratings NBCSN led all sports telecasts over the weekend with a 2.8 overnight rating for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Brickyard 400 yesterday, but that figure is down slightly from a 2.9 last year and down from a 3.2 overnight on ESPN in '14. NBCSN on Saturday afternoon also drew a 1.0 overnight for the Xfinity Series race from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Last year's race aired on NBC and drew a 1.5 overnight.
Mark Miles, CEO of Hulman & Co. which owns Indianapolis Motor Speedway, said the Brickyard 400 remains an important event to the company although recent attendance shortfalls culminated in the smallest estimated attendance in the event's 23-year history Sunday writes Brant James of USA Today.
The Indianapolis Star estimated the crowd at about 50,000, an optically horrific scene for a track that seats roughly 250,000 and hosted an estimated 350,000 for the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 in May. NASCAR announced in 2015 that it had reached five-year sanctioning agreements with all of its Sprint Cup venues.

Alex Tagliani won his third race of the 2016 season, his second in two weeks, at the Alberta Has New Energy 300 held Saturday night at the one quarter-mile paved oval Edmonton International Raceway in Alberta. Starting on the outside of Row 2 following the lone qualifying session of Round 6 of the NASCAR Pinty's Series held earlier that afternoon, the Laval, Quebec driver was shoved aside at the start of the race and lost a few position before he started to climb up the field.
On lap 60, he was back in fourth place behind pole sitter Kevin Lacroix, LP Dumoulin and race leader Cayden Lapcevich. After disposing of Lacroix, Tagliani dove inside Dumoulin for second place at the restart on lap 86. Two laps later, he took command of the race. Tagliani would never relinquish the lead until the checkered flag was displayed on lap 300 to score his fifth series win.

The accuweather forecast for today's Brickyard 400 shows an afternoon temperature of 92 and a heat index of 107 with the temperature rising. Sitting in the sun in bleachers for 4 hours is going to be brutal on the few fans that show up.
Wallowing stock cars on the flat Indy track is as boring as racing gets. Why is NASCAR racing at the home of IndyCar while it would be a cold day in hell before NASCAR allows the IndyCars to race at Daytona?
Thai rookie Alexander Albon leaves Budapest a happy man after clinching the GP3 Series lead after pocketing his third victory of the 2016 season. The ART Grand Prix ace started from P2 on the front row and made a great getaway to pass Jenzer Motorsport’s Arjun Maini for the lead of the race. From then on; he drove a mature and controlled race and bagged fastest lap in the process to head the Drivers’ Standings. Maini achieved his maiden GP3 podium whilst ART Grand Prix’s and Scuderia Ferrari Team development driver Charles Leclerc was third.
Slightly cooler temperatures greeted the paddock this morning with Maini starting from reverse pole. The Indian made a clean getaway but Albon fired away from his slot to move into P1. Leclerc remained in P3 ahead of Ralph Boschung. Akash Nandy was caught up in a start-line incident when his car received contact which flipped his Jenzer Motorsport machine over. The safety car was deployed whilst the Malaysian driver was able to get out of the car unaided.

Sergey Sirotkin has put his title challenge back on track with a crushing win in this morning's Sprint Race at the Hungaroring to add to yesterday's podium, capitalizing on his rival's mistakes before leaving everyone behind to claim victory ahead of Jordan King and Norman Nato.
The groundwork for the win was set up at the start: poleman King made a good escape when the lights went out but Nato was slow away from second and was soon fighting with Nobuharu Matsushita, but Sirotkin was faster than them both to slide inside the squabble and into P2 at Turn one, with his teammate coming together with Antonio Giovinazzi behind him and Raffaele Marciello running wide to avoid the collision.
Horner questions Nico Rosberg's fastest lap (Update) UPDATE Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg has kept his pole position at the Hungarian Grand Prix after stewards determined that no further action was required over his alleged failure to slow for yellow flags.
Rosberg was alleged to have not slowed sufficiently for yellow flags, which were showing at Turn 8, after McLaren's Fernando Alonso had just recovered from a spin at Turn 9.
Rosberg went on to take pole position courtesy of the lap, edging in front of Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton.
