Team Pelfrey F1600 Duo Get Team USA Nod
Ahead of the F1600 Championship Series weekend at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, two Team Pelfrey F1600 drivers, David Osborne and Jonathan Kotyk, have been selected as candidates for this year's Team USA Scholarship. The Scholarship sends its winners to compete in international auto racing events later this year.

"I am incredibly honored to be selected for the Team USA interview process, just to be considered as a candidate is an achievement in my career," said Osborne. "I can't thank Team Pelfrey and all others who have given me the opportunity to pursue my dream of making a career in auto racing. I look forward to meeting Jeremy Shaw and the entire Team USA supporters, as well as the other candidates on Friday at Mid-Ohio."

the person (president of Lime Rock Park) has issued a statement:

“It has come to my attention that there are some people both inside and outside the motorsport industry who erroneously concluded that the bankruptcy filing of the Skip Barber Racing School is somehow connected to me. I’ve even heard reports that ‘Skip Barber,’ referring to me, is bankrupt.

Joe Gibbs Racing suspends two No. 78 crewmembers (Update)
UPDATE The following is a statement from Furniture Row Racing team owner Barney Visser in regards to the No. 78 pit crew.

“Our No. 78 pit crew is hired, trained and managed by Joe Gibbs Racing,” said Furniture Row Racing team owner Barney Visser. "They are one of the best pit crews on the circuit and have kept us up front all season. We admire the talent and dedication of our pit crew and support all of the decisions and actions taken by Joe Gibbs Racing."

Formula 1 tire supplier Pirelli has completed its selections for the 2017 campaign by confirming which compounds it will take to the Brazilian and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix.

For the Interlagos event, the manufacturer has selected the Super Soft, Soft and Medium tires, while at the Yas Marina Circuit, the Ultra Soft, Super Soft and Soft tires will be used.

Whiting: 'Raw' halo looks will be improved
F1 Race Director Charlie Whiting says the so far "raw" halo head protection device will be aesthetically improved before its introduction, as a result of aerodynamic additions.

Whiting and his deputy, Laurent Mekies, fielded questions from the media at the Hungarian Grand Prix, following the FIA's decision to implement the three-pronged solution for 2018.

Whiting outlined that F1 teams will be allowed to fit fairings to the halo, which will be a standard part, to deal with any aerodynamic complications, thus improving the looks.

The technological partnership between the Sauber F1 Team and Honda, which was intended to start from 2018 onwards, is no longer in place. The new Sauber engine partner will be announced shortly.

However, this decision has been made for strategic reasons, and with the best intent for the future of the Sauber F1 Team in mind. Kyle Busch said he had a ride set up for May’s 101st Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil, but the two-time Brickyard 400 winner and 2015 Cup series champion didn’t get permission. Kyle Larson would like to run, too, although he didn’t sound as eager after seeing crashes in May involving Verizon IndyCar Series drivers Scott Dixon and Sebastien Bourdais.

NASCAR, and its antiquated technology, has lost relevance with the younger generation

As NASCAR attendance continues to decline, Speedway Motorsports is searching for the formula to bring in new race fans while keeping the loyalty of longtime ones.

The Concord-based track operator released its second-quarter earnings Wednesday, showing a 2 percent decrease in admissions revenue in the three-month period from a year ago. But event-related revenue and NASCAR broadcasting revenue rose, helping to boost total revenue by 2 percent to $179.3 million.

Overall, the company’s second-quarter income increased by 10.5 percent from last year, from $24.7 million to $27.3 million. In early afternoon trading Wednesday, the company’s shares jumped more than 9 percent to $20.33.
