Pole winner Alvaro Parente left little doubt about his performance Saturday at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course with a dominating win in the Pirelli World Challenge GT Sprint Round 6 event, the PWC Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio presented by Honda Racing, in his No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S.
Parente, a winner last year in his debut at Mid-Ohio, repeated the 2016 showing with a 6.857-second victory over Cadillac’s Michael Cooper and Johnny O’Connell in a 36-lap wire-to-wire win, his third in 2017 in the GT Sprint division.

Santi Urrutia has clearly developed an affinity for the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Oliver Rowland has brought home exactly the result he was looking for after emerging on top of a chaotic FIA Formula 2 feature race at the Hungaroring, holding on from pole despite losing the lead early on and surviving a late attack from Artem Markelov to claim victory ahead of DAMS teammate Nicholas Latifi and Nyck De Vries.
Anyone who was expecting a quiet race around the tight, technical circuit was soon proven wrong: track temperatures of 52˚ were soon matched by the heat of battle on it when Rowland made a good start but Markelov made a better one, with the Russian leading the Briton with his countryman Jordan King and Latifi into turn 1, while further back championship leader Charles Leclerc was up to P12 from the back and looking for more on the alternate tire strategy.

Round Eight (out of 12) of the hotly contested Pro Mazda Championship Presented by Cooper Tires once again boiled down to a tense battle between Victor Franzoni (Juncos Racing) and Anthony Martin (Cape Motorsports). Just as was the case yesterday, the Brazilian and the Australian were never separated by more than a few car lengths. Only this time, after taking his fourth pole of the season and holding a narrow advantage for the majority of the 35-minute Pro Mazda Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio Presented by Allied Building Products, Martin was unfortunate enough to run afoul of a lapped car with just a few minutes to go, gifting an opportunity for Franzoni to sneak past and secure his fourth win of the season.

This is going to be a real quick update. But its a cool, breezy morning here at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The forecast is for sunshine and clear skies pretty much for the remainder of the weekend.
We dug a little more into the reason Mikhail Aleshin was put down for the recent Toronto race in favor of Sebastian Saavedra. For one, there was a business issue of some kind between Schmidt Peterson Motorsports and Aleshin's backers. Second, the team was plain tired of repairing Aleshin's damaged cars, and thought that a reset would do the Russian driver some good.
