LED Panels Make Verizon IndyCar Series Debut
Note LED panel
The light-emitting diode (LED) panels displaying a car's real-time running position on track made their Verizon IndyCar Series debut in today's practice sessions. They were an immediate hit with fans and an accepted addition with crews for the good of the sport.

The LED panels are attached to both sides of the cars' airbox, below the camera mount and roll hoop. The current running position of each car is displayed in red numbers and updated multiple times each lap as cars cross the many timing lines embedded in every series track. A running clock will time a car's pit stop in green lights on the panel and a flashing green "PP" will indicate when a driver activates the push-to-pass button on the car at road- and street-course events.

Honda Closer to Finalizing Contract Extension with INDYCAR
Honda Performance Development president Art St. Cyr said a contract extension with INDYCAR to supply engines and aerodynamic bodywork packages to the Verizon IndyCar Series past 2015 is close to being finalized.

"Back when we started this, we had a lot of discussion about some of the technical issues and the technical vision moving forward," said St. Cyr. "I'm happy to say that we have a written resolution on a lot of those technical issues. Some of them, we have verbal agreement. There's still one or two issues that we're still trying to work through.

"Like any company, we want to make sure that we have all of the Is dotted and Ts crossed before we move forward. But our intent and our wish is to resolve those issues obviously before the end of this season so we can move forward with an extension.

Jamin turned a series of super-consistent laps, each of them faster than his pursuers before taking the checkered flag in Race 1 of the Allied Building Products Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio almost six seconds to the good.

Toyota NSCS Pocono Notes & Quotes: Kyle Busch
The hottest driver in motorsports - Kyle Busch
How much momentum does your team have at Pocono after winning four of the last five races?

"I'd say we're certainly doing the right things and our momentum is certainly high at this point. The guys have just done a phenomenal job both at the shop – everyone there at Joe Gibbs Racing as well as here at the race tracks that we've been to. I can't say enough about Adam Stevens (crew chief) and everybody on this team. They continue to fight and each week it seems like everything just continues to get better and better for us. We'll hopefully have that continue not only through these next six weeks before the Chase starts but then end of the final 10 weeks as well. I look forward to continuing on our Chase march here and then once we get to Chicago being able to capitalize on this hot summer to have a continuation of that into the Chase."

Good morning from Mid-Ohio (Update 1) UPDATE
AR1 bumped into a happier Derrick Walker this weekend at Mid-Ohio. We wish Derrick all the best in his future endeavors
AR1 talked to a smiling Derrick Walker this morning. I asked what the reason was and he stated "It was a business decision. I am not done with racing.  I have some unfinished business. But I don't have a plan for the future yet."

Walker also said on IndyCar Radio this morning that he had unfinished business in the series, and would very much enjoy owning his own team again.

IndyCar fans will miss him and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.

Carlos Munoz the driver for #26 AndrettiTV Cinsay Honda arrived early to the track today.  We asked him about his ride for next season.  "I am keeping my options open.  I like being in IndyCar. They treat drivers much better here than in Europe. I would be looking for a better team if I did make a move."

Not sure they will be a spot for him to move to with a better team at this point in time.

Bad weather at BMS spring race hurt SMI's bottom line UPDATE A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1, An interesting article about the bad weather at Bristol hurting SMI's bottom line.  I know the Kingsport Times News is playing to the local crowd but this comes nowhere near to the truth.  In fact revenues (sales) were higher for SMI than the same period last year.  The real truth is much more interesting.

SMI wrote off a whopping $100 million dollars in their most recent quarter, primarily due to New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Seems they finally realized they way overpaid for that track back in '08.  They also cite foreseeing increasing economic pressure due to changing demographics, alternative entertainment options, the increasing appealing at home viewing experience, and (wait for it) the newly announced NASCAR trackside merchandising model. Wow.

NASCAR to give band-aids another try
NASCAR officials confirmed Wednesday they will proceed as planned with a test of their high-drag aerodynamic package on Sprint Cup Series cars next month at Michigan. Cup teams and their representatives took part in a previously-scheduled meeting on Wednesday with NASCAR competition executives and expressed concerns over the package's performance last weekend at Indianapolis.

NASCAR, however, plans to give the package another try at Michigan with little, if any changes. The package was desired to help spur more passing and "pack racing" but came far short of expectations in Sunday's Brickyard 400. Motorsports

A ribbon-cutting for the tent is scheduled Friday morning. The tent opens 9:30 a.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

There'll be no more waiting in line for a clerk inside a merchandise hauler to hand over an item for closer look, Heaney said. "It's all touch and feel," he said. "You can do it yourself."

Smooth Tunnel Turn set to greet NASCAR drivers at Pocono
Those bumps that jostled drivers and rattled cars in the Tunnel Turn [2nd of three turns] at Pocono Raceway are gone. Track officials smoothed the racing surface in the turn and drivers should have a more comfortable ride this weekend when NASCAR returns to Pocono Raceway. A section of the track about 170 feet by 28 feet was milled, leveled and repaved about a week after the June race there. Also, a section of the apron about 170 feet by 12 feet was leveled and repaved. That will create a much different setting from June when the bumps surprised drivers and caused some challenges.
