IndyCar Drivers Don't Want Series Politics To Overshadow Racing
After  IndyCar’s Dir of Operations and Competition Derrick Walker's resignation on Thursday, drivers yesterday said that the “series’ politics -- and coverage of the infighting among series, team officials and manufacturers -- shouldn’t overshadow the racing."

Driver Sebastien Bourdais said at the Honda Indy 200: "As long as the series carries the momentum and keeps on being strong and showing good racing and helping sponsors with good ratings, who cares who is steering the boat?"

Kasey Kahne Pocono accident quotes
The race starts and Kahne crashed the third time by
KASEY KAHNE, NO. 5 AQUAFINA CHEVROLET SS – Lost control of the car in Turn 3 and crashed into pit wall on Lap 3

WHAT HAPPENED THERE TO START THE INCIDENT?

"I just got loose.  It was late exit and a lot later than I would have expected.  That's why I ended up so far down pit road and that was crazy because I have never ended up there.  Yeah, I just got loose and basically spun and that was it.  I tried saving it to try and avoid running into the wall, pit wall then ended up hitting the one on the left and not the one on the right.  It's been a rough last month for our Aquafina team.  I am not sure why that happened and what happened so quickly there."

Good morning from Mid-Ohio (Update 1) UPDATE
Andretti Autosport is hard at work repairing the #28 DHL Honda
Due to a incident in morning practice, the Andretti Autosport crew is frantically working on getting the #28 DHL Honda of Ryan Hunter-Reay ready by replacing the back wing and fixing the front wing.  Hunter-Reay of course, had an accident in the morning warm-up.

I ran into RHR's teammate Justin Wilson who is driving the #25 for Andretti Autosport. Justin has not driven all season but is in the car for the remainder of the season.  I asked him if he had any plans for next season and he replied, "I have no idea at this time."

Kyle Busch wins Pocono truck race
As Kyle Busch sat sidelined with a broken right leg and left foot from February until May, the prevailing question was "When will he win again?"

Now it's "Will he ever lose?"

In a race that began with major drama and ended with three overtime periods, Busch took the checkered flag in Saturday's Pocono Mountains 150 at Pocono Raceway, winning in his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start since returning from the Feb. 21 accident at Daytona that kept him out of action.

When Gordon quits, he's done for good
Jeff Gordon happy to be retiring
Gordon, no plans to race Sprint Cup after 2015: #24-Jeff Gordon met with media and was asked about racing after 2015:

Q) AFTER LAST WEEK, THE OUTPOURING OF FANS ON TWITTER WAS PRETTY INTENSE. DO YOU EVER SEE A POINT WHERE YOU WOULD GET BACK IN A STOCK CAR FOR A ONE-OFF RACE? OR, ONCE YOU GET OUT OF THE CAR AT HOMESTEAD, IS THAT PRETTY MUCH IT ON THE CUP LEVEL?

Gordon: "Right now, I don't have any plans to. You have to understand it's far more than just what maybe I would desire or want to do. It takes a team to do it. And that's a total disruption to the organization to go do a one-off race. It's not that it can't be done. But, as somebody who is an equity owner in the organization, I recognize the challenges that would come along with that and what it would do to our four teams competing for the wins and championships. So, I probably wouldn't ask them to do that. And if I were going to do it, it would probably be at a short track like Martinsville or something like that. But, I have no plans to do that."

Mortara wins DTM race 1 at the Red Bull Ring
Best Pascal Wehrlein could do was 2nd
Edoardo Mortara won the race on Saturday of the DTM’s visit to the Red Bull Ring. After 29 laps, the Audi driver crossed the finish line while in the lead and secured his third victory in the most popular international touring car series. Behind the Italian, the two Mercedes-Benz drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Paul Di Resta finished second and third.

Behind fourth-placed Christian Vietoris, Mattias Ekstrom only claimed his fifth place on the final lap from Augusto Farfus, who made it home in sixth place. With his second-place finish, Wehrlein moves up into the lead of the drivers’ standings from Jamie Green and starts the second half of the season as ‘half-time champion’. Green, who had started from second place on the grid alongside pole-sitter Mortara, took the lead after the start, but had to retire after three laps due to technical problems.

Afternoon update from Mid-Ohio (Update 1) UPDATE
2015 has been a breakout season for Josef Newgarden
After placing second in the morning practice in the second spot, a smiling Josef Newgarden was happily reflective about his accomplishments in 2015. The 24-year-old Tennessee native has won twice so far this season, at Barber in April and in Toronto in July.

I asked him what his plans were for next year. The CFH Racing driver stated "I want to have the best situation with the best resources and the best tools. I am happy where I am now. I would have to think about every opportunity before making a move."

I asked to if Formula 1 was a possibility in his career and he replied "I want to race in everything. Sports cars, F1 and Indy Cars."

Could we see Ed Jones in IndyCar in 2016?
I spoke with some of the lights drivers also before there autograph session in the fan village today.  Ed Jones who pilots the #11 for Carlin Racing had some interesting comments about his first season in the Lights. "Our aim was to learn the new circuits. Some of tracks in the US are old school'. In Europe, the tracks have more runoff room so if you make a mistake, you can recover without much penalty.  Not so here in the US."

Siemens reigns at Lotus F1 Team
Lotus F1 Team is proud to confirm continuation of its relationship with Siemens through utilization of its Fibersim portfolio of software for composites engineering, along with training and engineering services.

Fibersim has been used at Enstone since 2003, capturing the full end-to-end composites design and manufacturing intent in 3D model definition of the component part. Each individual carbon fiber ply of a design can be modelled with Fibersim sending instructions from the design office to the clean room cutting machine and lasers, enabling the laminators to position every single carbon ply into the mold with repeatable precision. For 2015 and beyond, Lotus F1 Team is pushing the use of Fibersim more widely than ever before, with new methodologies and practices seeing Fibersim used by default across every composite part on the car, large and small, improving quality, performance and consistency across our composite parts.

Kenny Wallace on making his final start in Iowa
KENNY WALLACE, No. 20 U.S. Cellular Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing

How was your Camry in practice?

"No doubt, you get in a car like that and it's a little nervy because you're with obviously the winningest – I believe the winningest XFINITY team in history I would think, I'm not sure, you all can tell me that – so you get in it. I've been at the shop for three days trying to make everything right and then you get up to speed and you're like, 'Oh, man, my steering wheel is a little high and I'm a little loose,' but we did a really good job of working with it and I feel really good about the car right now. I'm getting in the groove and there's no doubt I'm a little bit rusty, but I'm warmed up and feel real good about it. We're close right now."

Are you excited to serve as the grand marshal for tonight's NASCAR K&N series race?

Rahal To Sport Ohio State-Themed Helmet At Mid-Ohio
Rahal Ohio State helmet
Verizon IndyCar Series driver Graham Rahal during Sunday's race at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course will don "what amounts to a replica of an Ohio State football helmet," according to Tim May of the COLUMBUS DISPATCH.

The helmet was designed by Austin Polen, while OSU Football Dir of Player Personnel Mark Pantoni "provided facsimiles of the decals, such as the Buckeyes leaves and color schemes." The helmet "bears the No. 15, a reference to Rahal's car number and also the jersey number" of OSU RB Ezekiel Elliott. It includes 18 Buckeye leaves, "symbolic of Rahal's 18 career podium finishes" in IndyCar.

Rahal, who enters Sunday's race second in the season-long points standings and describes himself as a life-long OSU fan, said, "I had to keep certain sponsors' logos on there because they just have to be there, but all in all, it's really cool" Columbus Dispatch

Jeff Gordon Press Conf Transcript
Jeff Gordon
Jeff Gordon
JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 AARP MEMBER ADVANTAGES CHEVROLET SS met with media and discussed rules packages, different challenges of racing at Pocono and his memories of this particular track, how he feels about making the Chase at this point in the season, his feelings about going to various tracks for the final time as a competitor, and more.

LOOKING AHEAD, HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT GOING INTO NEW HAMPSHIRE AND BREAKING RICKY RUDD’S IRONMAN RECORD?

“Talk to me about it when we get there (laughs). My body is aching a lot more these days than it used to. So, there are no guarantees in the world and in racing and so, it’s something that when I look at today and the streak that I’m on currently, it’s something I’m very proud of and it’s not an easy thing. When you look at those numbers, it’s pretty staggering. It’s not an easy thing to accomplish and so, we certainly hope to pull that off and I think it would certainly be a great notch when I think of all the stats that I’ve achieved in this sport, that would certainly rank right up there. The stats that you want to achieve are the ones that know are very challenging and difficult and I think it speaks a lot of my commitment and our team’s commitment and to safety and for me, of staying healthy and strong and focused on being at every single event that I can possible be in.”

DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 MICROSOFT CHEVROLET SS, met with members of the media at Pocono Raceway and discussed his Pocono sweep in 2014, the status of his team heading into the Chase and many other topics.

TALK ABOUT THE RELATIONSHIP WITH MICROSOFT AND HOW PRACTICE HAS GONE FOR YOU SO FAR:
“Yeah, the Microsoft deal is a real awesome sponsor for Hendrick Motorsports.  They are really excited about the potential to work with them as far as improving on our SIM (simulation) programs; and trying to find a way to incorporate the technology and experience they have into what we are doing to help our performance.  It’s a great platform for Microsoft to promote its new Windows 10 software.  I think it works really well.  Hopefully, we will see the benefits of this technology and things we can learn and improve on within the company.  Hopefully, we will see the benefits on the racetrack soon.  I’m really excited about it.  I’ve been playing video games and racing online and doing all those things for years.  I’ve been through several Windows platforms and software updates.  I’ve always enjoyed iRacing and all that stuff through Windows.  It’s something I’m pretty comfortable with and I’m definitely a big fan of Xbox and playing their Madden League.  It’s a good partnership.

Saturday morning update from Mid-Ohio
A determined Will Power at Mid-Ohio Friday will be back with Penske in 2016
A few tidbits of additional information I picked up Friday at Mid-Ohio:

Will Power is one of the Penske drivers that is still in the hunt for the championship this season.  He is determined to win that trophy.  "I am going to put my head down and get the absolute most out of every weekend.  The last 3 races are very strong tracks for me.  I am determined to win this weekend at Mid-Ohio."

I asked how he felt with double points for Sonoma.  "I am not a fan of double points races, but it gives me more of a shot, gives me a chance.  You would need an 80 point lead going into the last race to wrap up the championship.  The double points leaves the door open for other people.  The other people is me."

Winterbottom takes four in a row, Lowndes stalks the leader
Mark Winterbottom
Mark Winterbottom remains untouchable yet he is not fully convinced that he can claim his first V8 Supercars Championship title.

Winterbottom broke a long Queensland Raceway drought at the Coates Hire Ipswich SuperSprint today. He won both of the shorter sprint races in a canter, taking his fourth straight race win and the first time in his career won that many in a row.

Having been a bridesmaid, along with the rest of the field, to Jamie Whincup for the past eight years, Winterbottom has reversed the form that is usually that of his life-long nemesis.
